Received en email from a gay guy who has accepted a job in Battambang asking where he could meet gay or gay friendly people. From my search of websites I can offer little to him

To be frank I am not sure where it is. Friend that I asked "thinks" he went from Phnom Penh to Seam Reap by bus last year ,but slept most of the way. I have always flown.

I checked out GayRomeo and did not find a listing. It is a city of over a million people. Maybe the internet has not made any impact, or there is no night life?

Could be rather lonely for him. Any help or advise?

CambodiaOut, at http://www.cambodiaout.com/cambodia/bat ... ay-venues/ (http://www.cambodiaout.com/cambodia/battambang-gay-venues/), lists several gay owned or managed businesses, including hotels and restaurants.

Utopia has a small listing, and Nicky's Gay Asia repeats the CambodiaOut information.

Battambang is a lovely town and the last few years has seen a lot of new guest houses and boutique hotels opening up which is a nice addition to the mainly 'chinese' style hotels that you find in the centre of town. The town hugs the river and is very Barang friendly, plenty of tuk tuk drivers who'll happily suggest trips. There are some nice restaurants both Khmer and Barang. No gay vibes that I could detect but there are a few guys who work in local hotels who are on romeo sporadically. The surrounding countyside is very attractive indeed and Battambang province has the reputation of having the prettiest girls in Cambodia (you can assume they have brothers). A few Angkor era temples a short ride from town and the 'Bamboo Train' for a jaunt into the rice fields, small museum and some nice old houses make it a nice place for a couple of days. About 2-3 hours from Siem Reap in a taxi, 3+ hours on the bus or when the Tonle Sap is full you can take a boat 6-8 hours.

Thank you to the member who sent me this guide to Gay Battambang.

My friend has been and returned, and did not visit the city as his interview was in Seam Reap. He plans to visit again before November, so this will come in handy.

He will also be visiting Sisophon and wonders if there is anything there as well.
