CityNews тАУ On 7th January at 1 a.m. Police Region 5 arrested Klaus Michael Hicker (53), a retired German thought to have lived in Chiang Mai for over 20 years. Police also arrested Tip Yahong (21) who resides at Tewarit Road, Chang Puek, with Hicker. The two men, police said, were arrested for sexually allegedly assaulting young boys in Chiang Mai.
Police Region 5 reported that they had had Hicker under surveillance for some time before the arrest as they suspected that he had been luring 12-15 year old homeless children back to his house and sexually assaulting them. The surveillance also revealed that the co-accused, Tip, had been using his tuk-tuk to pick up boys and take them back to the house.
Police also seized two computers during the arrest.
CityNews spoke to a foreign man who lived in the same neighbourhood as Hicker who said, тАЬ[Hicker] always kept himself to himself, but he was pretty well known for liking young boys. People will probably be surprised this hadnтАЩt happened earlier.тАЭ The man added that Hicker was part-owner of the Yum Boi Boi bar in Santitum Plaza.
He was also known to have websites, said the source, some of which have photographic content of young scantily-clad Asian boys. CityNews has seen the sites though cannot reveal the URL. Much of the content is photographs of young boys dressed only in shorts or underwear. The source told CityNews, тАЬHe was nicknamed Klaus Dracula due to his unkempt appearance and odd looks.тАЭ
The source added that Hicker was fond of drinking at the CU Bar in the Night Bazaar, тАЬAn area with a reputation for underage boys,тАЭ he said.
