After my exausting journey yeasterday from Bangkok to Ban non sang....went to bed early ..while my bf went to Isaan concert with friends
And woke me at 3.20 in the morn when he got back to tell me my team Man City had won 4-3 at Norwich....i think i said great and went back to sleep
Today did'nt do much...just went and spent some time with bf's family in the village and went on bf's moter cycle to get something to eat at Garry's a fellow mancunian's bar/reasturant
The Mosquito bites are driving me crazy today...i keep putting the cream on every day but still keep getting them

Sounds like we are going to be neighbors. I land in Udon Thani tomorrow and head East to BF village in Sakon Nakhon.

Staying a few days, then flying to BKK, with a taxi to Pattaya. No bus ride for me. :glasses7:

Have a great time...and happy new year.

What's in the cream you are using? In my experience, if it's not DEET, it doesn't work. I also find the sprays are better than creams. I had occasion to buy some in a small pharmacy recently - the person in there spoke little English. I asked for DEET - she said "Ah, mosquito" and made a high-pitched buzzing sound and came up with a product called Sketolene Shield. 20% DEET spray, 60 baht for a 40 ml bottle which is a good deal cheaper than an equivalent product in Boots or Watsons.

I've used different ones ...cant remember the name of the one i'm using now......its in Thai....its a pink and white bottle...i allso have tube of cream for when you have them to rub on them

Had a great new year's eve....the party's started around 2pm and ran till midnight...so we were going round to different house's in the village drinking with friends and they had little isaan concert at night with fireworks at midnight....the local boys got very touchy feely when they were mou and kept getting me up to dance ha ha

Actually I find that Deet is the only thing that does work. The cream in the pink and white bottle has deet 15, and says "milky lotion" and "Mosquito repellant" in English.
Smells okay, easy on the skin and works even at an Issan Morlam with Mosquitos galore.

Yes ..thats the one i've been using...i mseem to get more bites up here in Isaan than the rest of thai

its been another beautiful day again here

On the other hand I have used DEET up to 80% strength (available from specialist shops online) and still had many, and serious bites.

I'm sure had I not used DEET then the situation would have been even worse - I'm just saying that if you are over-sensitive to mosquito bites and insist on travelling to places where you will encounter them, you cannot prevent the inevitable.

Yes i spend more time in isaan than anywhere else, its my 3rd time on this tri,p alone...but its like a 2nd home to me now, i know many peope here now, it dosent have the night life like the tourist places bit people here have just as much fun in their own way, and when were drinking, every one shares the cost, which is more than can be said for some places

January 6th, 2013, 14:24
what a crazy night...every one at concert, young and old were very mou and frantic dancing...it was like a hard house rave with out the drugs

Sounds like you are having a good time. Enjoy the overnight bus ride.... :evil4:

I am envious of you for being able to have a 7 week visit.

Keep enjoying.

Thanks Annone....the only downside is my money thins out a bit doing 7 weeks instead of 4

I am not quite sure about that. The expensive part of going to Thailand is the air fare.
Daily expenses - I am far from being as thrifty as Christian - is usually less than what I spend in Farangland.
If I stay longer, the cost of the plane ticket is spread on a bigger number of days !

Of course I am retired, my income doesn't depend of the number of working days !
