Just finalizing plans to be in Thailand for about 3 weeks in July after having been away for 3 years. Right now, looking at possible 2 weeks in Pattaya and 1 week in Bangkok.

Would like to have a wireless capability so can access internet 24 hours. Am self employed stock trader so want to keep abreast of the markets. Are there any other stock traders living or vacationing in Pattaya?

The only place with wireless I've found so far is Sheraton at 3979 baht per night at asiarooms.com. Would prefer something near Jomtien or any where closer to the action and really don't need all that luxury at that price. In Bangkok, liked the Pinnacle last time there, but probably no wireless.

The Poseidon hasn't responded to my e-mail yet but their website doesn't mention wireless.

Any suggestions or experiences?

Look at the many posts here about Niddys Nook. One of the advantages of his cafe is he has wireless facilities

24 hours at Niddy's Nook, the new psycho horror documentary by Spike Lee.
Did I mention the cheeseburgers?
(Since this board welcomes SPAM, I think I'll do my part.)
Niddy's Nook, fusion cuisine, coming soon!

Hey, I have an idea, we could do one of those FLASH MOBS at El Casa de Nookie.
At a stated date and time (totally without warning AT) thousands of people gather at the Nook and demand TASTY CHEESEBURGERS! Long lines, police, press, hungry people ... News at 11 ...

Let's face, the Nook is now the most happening spot on the Eastern Seaboard. Its where young Thai male models have a drink hoping to be discovered by Iraqi porn film producers. It so fashionable you have to wear your sunnies, even at night.
You think you can just go there and expect to get a table, baby, you gotta KNOW somebody!

Thanks for your responses guys, but if you look closely at his website, you will notice that Niddys is closed at 1 AM. Really need to have that internet capability in the hotel room, if needed.

Bangkok http://www.tarntawan.com/

Pattaya http://www.ambiancehotel.com/

A quick Google shows that virtually all the 5* hotels and top 4* hotels offer WiFi but below that standard and price it's erratic

When out and about it's amazing how many places you can surf for free see http://www.stickmanbangkok.com/wifi.htm which includes Telephone Pub in Bangkok and curious places like Lewinsky's in Pattaya.

Thanks for the plug, Thaiquila! Yes, our new menu will be coming out in late July! As Thaiquila stated, look for our all new fusion cuisine! Blends of Thai and other Western flavors to make your tastebuds happy! Also coming up: new choices in potato sides (as requested on this board earlier -- see we DO listen!). More to come, stay tuned!

In terms of internet, Niddy's Nook is open from 1:00 PM to 1:00 AM with free wireless internet. However, if you require internet during the wee hours of the morning -- I know that the Ambiance Hotel in Boyztown is newly wired to accomodate customers. I highly recommend the quality service, clean rooms and great location. If money is not an issue, go for one of the rooftop suits as they are quieter and provide a nice outdoor balcony seating area -- perfect for surfing with a cool cocktail!!

Hope to see you in Pattaya!

Fondly,
Chris

They have wireless but the antenna is in the first floor library, not in the rooms as you are seeking.
My Thai friend brought his laptop hoping to browse the net from my 8th floor room. No luck.
But you might get a connection in one of the rooms on the 2nd Floor???
Email them and ask.

Ambiance Hotel definitely has wireless throughout its building, and thus can obviously be used in your room for 24 hours a day. I had heard from a leader at Le Cafe Royale that they were "about" to put in wireless, and assume by now they have.

To check, e-mail them. Check their web site, http://www.caferoyale-pattaya.com, I believe (I am in the US and haven't had a chance to check right now), and their email I believe is through loxinfo, but I can't remember for sure.

I checked Le Cafe Royale's website and could find no mention.

I had an e-mail arrive minutes ago which included "Bangkok City Suite at Petchburi. Quite a decent hotel with free wireless LAN and good international cables. Good bargain at only 700B per nite too. The phone no is 2613 7277"

I just got back from a stay at the Ambiance. Wireless throughout. Including the rooms at the very top of the hotel. I did most of my work early morning in the cafe so not to disturb the BF and so I could enjoy a wonderful expresso.

Just a thought from a not very wireless person.

Do you switch the 'connection" off, when you close NN.

I leave my cable connected 24/7 Does it work the same for wireless

Would it cost NN anything more to leave wireless connected 24/7

May 28th, 2006, 17:54
Once my wireless software looks for and detects a wireless source, it informs me.

Once I connect, the connection stays active until I switch off, close the laptop or the laptop goes to sleep. Once I start up the laptop again, the wireless connection automatically reconnents if I am in range.

Our wireless is pretty much on all the time. So, after we close -- yes it is USUALLY still live. But, I don't see how this would help anyone unless they wanted to sit out on the curb with their computer in the dark. We shut down the system about three nights a week to let the modem cool -- so it doesn't burn out.

Got a message back from the Poseidon. Heiko says "we have wireless internet in all our rooms" so will stay there and see how it works. In Bangkok, TP found Bangkok City Suite, will try there for a few days, there are other options in Bankgkok as well if that doesn't work out. Thanks for the responses.

I got from an ad at the top of Sawatdee Gay Forum. It looks like comfortable simple clean rooms from Bt650

http://www.ibishotel.com/ibis/index.html
That got me thinking and I knew that Ibis just opened two new Bangkok Hotels from 888 baht - one has a pool and sure enough thyey have WiFi. They are good very comfortable rooms with super bathrooms Grohe fittings no less. They are part of the excellent French Accor Chain.
