Went to Hua Hin last weekend with a couple of friends. The place is OK but I think that, for Bangkokians, Pattaya is time better spent. The beaches are not as large or as clean as Pattaya in that the water appears more muddy. But, the primary shortcoming is that there is a hell of a lot less to do in Hua Hin.
We stayed at Amara Resort which is very nice but not near the sea. It was not as cheap as some of the guest houses near the dock/beach but much nicer. The problem with many of the guest houses is that the beach side is blocked because the guest houses on the beach side of the road are wall to wall and there is no way to get to the beach. Also, the beach is not really a beach because it is just rocks.
We did not even try the bars but I was told there are two of them. Of course straight bars abound.
I did not plan to make this a "trash Hua Hin post" but that is what it has turned into because I could not think of much good to say. I will say that it is not as crowded as Pattaya.
