View Full Version : Is the Rainbow card scheme still running ??

December 9th, 2012, 23:00
As I'm heading to Bkk next week I was just wondering does anyone know is the Rainbow discount card scheme still running as I haven't seen or heard of it being mentioned of late and if it is still running can you simply pick up a card in any of the participating outlets or do you still need to apply for one in some way ( and if so I would ask why as surely getting them out there would be the first and most important thing I would have thought ??)

just giving this a bump in case the operator of the Scheme is still on here ( as I think he used to be) or perhaps is any one else aware is the scheme still in operation as there hasn't been any mention of it in quite a while on here, perhaps do any of the participating businesses know ( Balcony bar etc ?? ). Thanks.

The man that ran the Rainbow card is a business partner of another man who runs Cambodia Out and has an exchange banner on this site in SE Asia forum. You may try contacting Cambodia Out to see if he will get a message to his partner and then report back to us all.

Personally as there was no answer here either from the business owner himself ( who used to promote the card here) nor any members who are maybe using the card, nor any of the gay businesses here who maybe have accepted the card recently that for me is all the answer I need about whether to invest anymore time chasing it up, if others wish to do so they are more than welcome and if the business is still in operation I wish them every continued success and perhaps a little post to clarify the position might be useful to new customers and people who have already joined up.

I know Radchada Garden Cafe (http://www.radchada-cafe.com/) accepts it in Chiang Mai along with the businesses listed here (http://www.rainbow-card.gayinchiangmai.com/)

It's actively promoted on the Dragoncastle Website (http://www.dragoncastle.net/) and the Rainbow Card website (http://www.rainbow-card.com) has recently been updated with a new look searchable list of around 100 venues now accepting the card.

My guess is that the scheme is in limbo and reviewing its future.
I have never seen one in Bangkok and remember a thread some time ago that told the card was a cheap badly home-printed bit of laminated paper. It could be easily copied!
It's not a professional looking, robust plastic credit card style type of card that is used by organisations like Utopia. Why bother when so many other bar and venue cards are accepted by so many places under reciprocal agreements?
The website says that the card is "Currently Free" so if it does continue what will be the annual cost of being a member?
I'm also told by a friend that one of the organizers (Mr. Cambodia Out) had quit Bangkok and moved upcountry and retired to Korat.
