Believe it or not in my 12 years here I have only stuck with a few I enjoy. I always had a motto that if you tried it and liked it, why change? On the mid range scale I have tried the Ritz, Sunrise Taco, Ambiance, Palmers and LeStroganoff 2. How about you all talk about your favorite restaurants, what dishes you especially enjoyed and no matter where in Thailand. Please start off and try and rate your favorite places with a Low Budget, Mid Range or high priced. Please try and be reaonable about your ratings of price and not say pricey because your budget might be low. As a matter of fact, how about putting in your post the price range from this price to this price as the average you will pay.
Thanks and I am sure many people will find it useful as they visit this holiday season.

For me, the best value at mid-range is Cucumber on Pattaya Tai....it also has rave reviews on Trip Advisor. Very welcoming to a Thai/falang couple.
Prices? around 130 bht per dish. There is a selection of sea-bass dishes (both Thai and falang) that P. often chooses. I don't buy alcohol so can't comment on value. A large meal for two usually is around 600 bht.

I always try to eat Thai food when I'm in Thailand. (And, beginning next week, I'll be there to do just that!) My favorite Thai food is Tomyum Talay (seafood soup). I have become a self-described expert on this dish, and am here to tell you that the best example of this delicacy is to be found at OO Restaurant on Pattaya Thai. This restaurant is to be found on the North side of the Tai just as you exit from Soi Hollywood. When I was last there, in March of this year, the soup cost 90 Baht with a side of rice and a jug of water. Stainless steel table tops and the standard low-cost restaurant roll of tissue for napkins are a feature of this favorite restaurant of mine.

I will limit my info to where I like to eat when I am not eating Thai food. When I stay in Pattayaland, I like the Great India restaurant on 2nd Road near the pedestrian crossing with light. I have enjoyed many different dishes there, especially like the Chicken Tikka, spicy eggplant, Butter Chicken, and many others. The prices range from 100-200 baht each as I recall. For just a light snack, there soups are great also.
When in BKK I also like the Indian food at either Mrs. Balbirs near Soi 11 Sukumvit(a good stop if you are walking to/from Hero massage) or Little India in Chinatown. The latter has a small alleyway entrance, a one room restaurant with super food and super cheap- about 80-120 baht for most dishes. But not easy to find as it is in an area you would not expect to find a restaurantl.

I don't have any favorite, so sorry can not tell, but when I am in Thailand I almost only eat thaifood.
What I like depends on the situation and who I am together with or alone.
I enjoy almost everything from the local noodleshop to Blue Elephant in Bangkok.
Leaving DJ in Silom Soi 2, there are some food stalls outside the Soi, that can be funny. Many of the guys eat there before going home or continuing into the night. The food is tasty, clean and cheap.

OT, last time I found out, that in 7-11 they have some tasty, I think, Japanese soups, they are quite delicious, how did I found out?, oh you know thaiguys can be hungry 24 hours :tongue3:

Thailand is great for good, fresh and cheap food.

Little Mango on Soi VC, gay owned and staffed. Low to medium price range. Main course about 90baht for Thai or 150+ for falang food. Good, fresh food and free soup of the day for all customers. Three course set Menus for 200 to 300baht.

Salt & pepper in Soi Day Night. An asian gent (Pakistan I think) and his Thai wife run it. Very tasty Thai and western food. Lower price range. Thai main course 60baht, farang main 120baht.

Sushi stall, Pattaya Thai facing Centre Condo. 5 baht per piece!!! Sets up about 9pm until about 3pm. Run by a very sexy & straight :( young man. Tasty sushi to take away. It's a street stall selling seafood so maybe not for those of a weak constitution!

The Pullman, North Pattaya. Medium to expensive. It's attached to a 5* hotel situated on it's own private beach. Nice. All you can eat buffet 1200baht per person. Includes a bottle of wine per person! The selection has something for everyone; starters, soups, seafood, salads, barbeques, roasts, veg, fruit, cakes and deserts, cheeses. Absolutlely no problem about filling up again and again.

I ate at Salt & Pepper a few times on my last trip, since it's located beside the Mosaik Apartments. Good food at reasonable prices. I feel uncomfortable eating alone, and they have lots of pot plants which shield you from the street, so I didn't feel too much like a sad bastard.

I also like the Pattaya Beer Garden, but that's more for the view and the music, although I've no complaints about the food.

@joe552, yes Salt & Pepper is an okay, cheap and unpretentious place. And you can always spice up your food.
When I am in Pattaya I often eat there if I am alone. Mostly for breakfast or lunch.
I like this place, because there are often other people eating alone.
Normally I take a table close to the street, without feeling like I am a sad bastard. :love4:
I just take and read a magazine or their copy of Bangkok Post, I am always reading, if I am eating alone. At the same time I can have an eye on the street and wach the people and guys passing.

Another nice place to eat if you are alone and also cheap, is the coffee shop in Baan Dok Mai. They make come nice crispy bacon.
I think they close around 17-18 so not a dinner place.

Close to twenty trips in the last eight years and I can count the unsatisfactory meals on one hand. For the total experience...location, ambience, greeting, service and of course the food I can't think of better than the seafood restaurant in Bang Saray. And if you get there at the right time you can watch the Cambodian fishing guys run around in their tiny briefs.

My favorite restaurant is Bordeaux located in Soi Day Night 2 almost diagonally opposite Mosaik. Food is close to fine dining , the prices are great for both food and wine and I visit at least once a week when I am in country.

Here is a link to their website but it surprises me that it is listed as being open for breakfast and lunch. Maybe that is recent The menu page is two pages and includes the wine list

http://www.bordeaux-restaurant-pattaya. ... st_12.html (http://www.bordeaux-restaurant-pattaya.com/crbst_12.html)

Waiters are first class, I believe the owner may have a chef's background. My experience is that almost every night there are large tables set up for parties, the last time I was there Gaybutton and another 17 had a booking.

Compared to other more expensive restaurants, they might lack a detail in presentation, but the place suits me fine.

A free plug for the new bar opposite, La Boffe. The numbers here vary from full to empty next night. Chairs are large and it is a great setting.

I was most impressed to have my gin and tonic served with the tonic served in its own individual carafe. Price was moderate, the gin was full strength and I became a regular when dining locally.

We used to served drinks this way when I first bought my restaurant, but glasses got damaged too often.

I searched for a link and finally found this at Nickys.. BTW I have not eaten there this last trip. but will do next time

llz: Fair question actually. Usually between about 5pm and 6pm there are quite a few boats along the two piers. The boys get undressed and then shower. Many of them speak good English.

Thanks and I am sure many people will find it useful as they visit this holiday season.

There is a very popular Bali restaurant web site that has just begun to add their favourite places in Thailand, Singapore and Sydney. Not many yet but I believe it is being added to all the time. They are written by Bali's no.1 restaurant critic but are not meant to be full detailed reviews just write-ups from his own dining experiences, and preferences:

La Petite Plan├иte - Soi Day Night 2

If I'm eating alone in the morning, I pop in and order a cheese and ham baguette with a coffee. You fill the baguette (French stick) yourself. If you want to give the mayonnaise, gherkins, salad, etc. a miss, you can. The coffee is good but too strong for my taste, so the staff put a cup of coffee into a mug and top it up with hot water. Perfect! The restaurant also permits smoking on the terrace.

The food is French-style and well prepared. I believe the owner/chef is Belgian and that the three-course evening meal is 270 baht.

Thai Garden Resort on Pattaya Nua, buffet every night with different themes , Saturday Night is international buffet, all you can eat for 299 baht! Hard to beat with an excellent choice , nice ambience and wandering minstrels! Went last night and thoroughly enjoyed, I try to keep under 500 baht a head when we go out so this was value for money

Daniel: I've only eaten at that one once, and it was fantastic. The other one I have been to (about 15 times) is about half way along the beach, it stands alone and juts out into the sea. The views stretch all the way across the bay to Naklua. I can't remember its name.

Maybe I'll have a wander round next time I'm in Bang Sara and try somewhere different.
