Bangkok Gays Don't Participate

Why is it that so few Bagkok Gays participate in the various Gay forums available? I have never been able to understand this. Considering the population differences it is amazing that these forums are dominated by Pattayans. Bangkok must have at least 500 or many more Gays but only about 5 post on this forum. I know Chiang Mai has at least 100 Gays but, again, only about 5 participate here.

Various reasons have been posted on a number of forums over the years. One is that gay Thailand Boards tend to be quite heavily Pattaya-centric and therefore of less interest to those in BKK. Another is that Pattaya - and to an extent Chiang Mai - are relatively small in comparison to BKK's vast area. Although there are a lot of expats living here, many probably work. After a long commute home in the evening after a tiring day, posting just does not hold the same attraction. Others can not afford to live in the central area and so travelling time can again play a negative role. But a less mentioned issue is the fact that there is just so much to do in BKK, what with concerts, musicals, exhibitions and a whole lot more. I reckon many gay guys tend to socialise less often, and when they do so it is often over quiet dinners than going out to bars. I also have the impression that in Pattaya, a lot of gay posters know each other and for many posting has just become part of daily life.

I think brisbaneguy has to some extent has a point, As he said a lot of bkk guys are maybe working expats while those guys in pattaya are mostly retired, and they tend to have more time on their hands, ie early risers , maybe play golf , so back in the house by lunch , use the computer in the afternoon before going out in the evening. This passes a few hours while they have nothing to do

If I may, I would like to address a few things. First it was not Brisbaneguy who gave all those reasons it was the post prior to that. Brisbaneguy only said that they have a life.

Next I think the poster who did give all the reasons, in my opinion, has some wrong views. First, the boards are not centered around Pattaya. It appears that since most posters seem to vist and and ask what is going on where visit both Bangkok and Pattaya, it is with solid reason why it would appear that conversations center around those two areas.

I don't know if I would agree with the point that they have a lot of things to do AFTER work that they don't visit the forums but will probably say that they don't need to ask what is going on where as much. They can just look at Nicky's for some quick updates whereas tourists want/need more details. Yes, many retirees are on Pattaya Beach and therefore do have much more time on thier hands. Sometimes, some may have a little too much it seems. :tongue3:

Anyway, those are my opinions. We here at SGF as I cannot speak for what the other forums do to try and attract members, do our best to attract everyonhe from everywhere all around the world who have interests in Thailand.

And now in closing, I would have to say that those of us reading this and those of us responding probably don't have an opinion that amounts to a hill of beans because if they are not participating in the forums, how is it that you would expect good answers? The only thing you will get from this is other peoples opinions.

Francois and others, I did not have an opinion why they do not post and I thought someone may have an idea why they don't. Since I live in Bangkok I really wish there was more participation from others who live here. Many good ideas on what to do in Pattaya come from members who do post here and on other boards and I would like the same in Bangkok.

Have a different look at it: (and I consider myself mainly in the BKK-part, even though i only spend half the year there-not now, last visit to PTY was around 2001/2): BKk as a big city has so many things to distract you and never leave you in a dull moment (there are alsom many other pleasures of life) that time to spend on boring boards is well, boring.
IMHO same-same for USAers who always seem to have endless time to talk about how much to tip- or Pattayans about even the tiniest change of a menu of some snack bar-pardon, restrt (we now do chicken wings eand not chicken legs!)-as main feature of some boards. Interesting indeed.
