View Full Version : Soi 4 Silom really jumping gets busier later in night

I arrived on friday from Vietnam and Cambodia and decided in advance the bars were on the way down, and the sparkle had left Silom. However I decided to dine and have a drink and by habit went to the Balcony

Now at 8.30 it was not jumping but busy but as I got to enjoy my beers, I noticed the crowds kept on increasing and by 11 it was quite crowded. In the past I have had dinner then drifted onto to bars. Might have missed the best part.

I went across to looksee if it was as busy inside Telephone and it was. As the night increased the extra frontages that Balcony had in front of other shops gradually filled up.

We saw many young asian guys with "GAY" maps asking for directions. They did not appear to enjoy drinking and maybe their trips were too short or a lot of catching up to do.

This was not the Xmas crowd but just an ordinary night. Last night seemed busier. Maybe the crowd is getting tired of go go but the scene surprised me. Think I might extend my stay.

I was also in Silom on Friday night and both Balcony and Telephone were packed to the rafters.

My friend and I arrived at about 11.00pm and we could not get a table on the street of either bar; it was that busy. After about 15 minutes inside Balcony the waiter came up and escorted us to a table on the streetside where we had a great time chatting and flirting with a table of young Thai guys. We joined up the tables to make a big group and got several plates of really good Thai snacks and food with some big towers of Chang beer. It was a terrific impromptu party.

All of us then went to DJ station at about 12.30am. The crowds in Silom Soi 2 were gigantic. There must have been over 1000 guys in that Soi. Impossible to dance in there but some of our new friends got on the stage ripped off their shirts and showed off their stuff. :tongue1:

I have read reports about the depressing scenes in Pattaya and Phuket. Silom must have had more gay guys in it last Friday night than all of Pattaya and Phuket combined - so if you're wondering what's happened to the seaside gay scene ... it's now in Bangkok :party

A thought  for Pattaya bar owners who are wondering why the boys have deserted the scene and the punters are no longer coming to Pattaya. It's your prices ... they are way too high. You are greedy.

Last Friday night I spent very little in Silom and had a great time.

DJ Station - 100 baht per drink - any drink - and hundreds of attractive young Thai guys to meet :wav:

The Balcony only Baht 69 for a whisky soda, any time, cheaper before 8.00 and 2 for 1 all night across the road at their small extension from where you can watch the show next door. As an added attraction all the passing parade, gays and straights, go by at crutch height! Amazing what a wink and a smile can do?

Must be the cheapest drinks in Asia!

August 26th, 2012, 18:23
Well I guess anybody whose idea of a "great time" is cheap booze, ogling people's crotches as they walk past on the street, then being crammed so tightly into a club that it's "impossible to dance", now knows where to go.

Well if I did not have a show I could do that also. Who wants to peer at a show from across the road and through the drapes just to get a 99 baht drink and sit outside in the muggy heat. Oh I'm sorry Christian! :evil4:

August 26th, 2012, 18:37
Neal stop trying to increase prices - 99B is too dear - you were clearly told
......only Baht 69 for a whisky soda, any time, cheaper before 8.00 and 2 for 1 all night across the road

I did hear somebody in The Balcony spilled a drink on the floor and after 3 SGF members had rolled around wrestling over it, the winner got splinters in his tongue trying to lap it up.

I can confirm paulg's observations on Silom Soi 4 on Friday night. The soi was buzzing.
In addition to the usually packed Balcony and Telephone, there is a disco in the soi that had several shirtless muscle boys posing outside.

DaBoss wrote >>>"Who wants to peer at a show from across the road and through the drapes" >>>--- I think that paug was referring to the club opposite Balcony's Tiger Terrace. He was facing the old Rome Club/Icon bar -- there are certainly no drapes -- it is an open fronted music bar with a large terrace. Further, there is no show to peer at--- they have live bands and the singers often come out onto the terrace. Balcony's terrace seems a suitable distance to listen to the music at a comfortable level.

DaBoss also wrote >>>" and sit outside in the muggy heat. ">>>>> ------- isn't that denigrating the thousands of open bars and terraces in Thailand? Certainly hundreds of people that night seemed to be happy in the 'mug'.

dab69 wrote >>> "Sit among the missing.will miss visiting with him, a fine bartender">>> --- Sit has been gone from Balcony for two or three years. He went to work in The Bull's Head on Sukhumvit 33 and I think he is now working in a restaurant on Soi Convent.

It is a comment, not putting them down at all. I am a person who is a tad bit large (LOL!) and I don't like outside bars because they make me muggy and sweat. Many people are like that. Some people don't care. I don't like to smell myself or other people's sweaty armpits.

Point taken daBoss. I smell less than 'hom' myself at times.
As an update, I've just been PMd pointing out that Sit has moved on from Soi Convent to a pub in Silom Soi Thaniya
Sorry for out of date info.

About 90% of the Thai boys in Pattaya(18yr up) would not dare go to Bangkok. The Thai gays that one finds in Silom have style and know that being handsome is more than being skinny and acting on the fem side. Many have careers in the city. Bangkok is more cosmopolitan with a wider age range where Pattaya is more for the retired farang. So Bangkok's gay scene will always be strong which caters to many ages, and nationalities.

I always wondered why, in Silom 2, all the Screw Boy dancers carry a briefcase and filofax on stage - now I know, they've just come from the office. :occasion9:

Makes you wonder what they see in a bunch of farang sex fiends in search of boys 1/2 to 1/3 their age. :dontknow:

I don't think it is fair to compare the gay scene in BKK with Pattaya.
The gay scene in BKK is just so much bigger, as in any other metropolis, with both a money scene and a non-money scene.
As I prefer BKK, and to go to DJ instead of any go go bar, I am happy that I can get a thunderstorm drink for 100 bht there.
Well I am still young at heart, and still enjoy to dance and party together with the crowd.

This is probably a silly question, but is there any place in Bangkok or Pattaya to go dancing on the much earlier side? I mean really early, such as 7:00 or 8:00 p.m? I go to sleep so early. It's really a problem.

On my last visit (January this year), there was no place in the entire Soi where you could have a conversation at normal voice. The problem is, adjacent businesses play different music and try to out-sound each other competing for customers. A solution would be to play the same music (at low level) in the entire Soi.

In a way I agree with christian when I walk down the soi, but I have never had problems to talk to other people when I was sitting in the bars chairs, also outside. Maybe it is because you take your earplugs on to early? :dontknow: :sign5:
Is is almost like BT in the old days, and therefore a lot of fun.

I recently visited the Balcony in soi 4, but my experience was not good and I will not be going again. The place was crowded but I got the impression that the crowd who were mainly foreigners wanted somewhere cheap as both the surroundings and comfort level were minimal. I suppose I can't blame them with the outrageous prices in the BKK go go bars. But I was with my Thai b/f and many of the "rent-a-crowd" cheapies were trying to cruise him, much to his and my amusement: he is not into cheapskates. Apart from my b/f there was no eye candy at all in the place and I have never seen so many ugly service staff. Made a mistake with ordering some snacks as the food looked unhealthy and tasted worse. What made the time I was there even more unpleasant was that a rather obese farang who claimed to be the owner kept trying to talk to us and when he was not talking about himself , he was running down Pattaya.
Give me Pattaya any time!

Well, each to his own, I really do not find any more cheapcharlies in BKK than I find I PTY.
Why you find the serving staff in Soi 4 ugly, I dont understand. They are working on a salary, instead of only on the tips.
Maybe that is why you dont like their attitude and in most bars they are not allowed to be offed.
The one I know in BKK is earning 6-8000 Bht a month, and then of course the tips, I think the ones in Silom 2 is earning at lot more on tips, even if I give them only give a 20 tip for my next and next thunderdrink.
I just do what I have been learning from my thai friends. later I was I an Thai place, we just took out the beers from the fridge, and paied when we left. :party

Have always found the main outside seating areas in fromt of the telephone and balcony bar fill up fast after 9. Food at the telephone is good in MHO, love the green chicken curry. the soi is a wonderul place to kick of the evening, drink, eat, people watch and slowly slide into a party mood.

What a strange message Homeseeker. It almost reeks of 'rent-a-message'.

Who are these rent-crowd-that you are referring to? Rent-a -crowd means people who are paid to attend an event to make the venue look more busy. Are these Thai or farang rent-a -crowd? If farang, please send me details because I'd be really up for it, being paid to sit at a bar.

You find the serving staff "ugly". Perhaps you could pop along to the bars and advise the owners as to which of their staff need to be 'terminated' to make way for your choice of more attractive staff and perhaps head the recruitment drive for stunners and also the inevitable "unfair dismissal" proceedings.

The food looked 'unhealthy', so why did you order any? There must have been many cheap charlies near you that were eating and you could have looked at their plates, then faces, to see if they were screwing up their faces at the bad tasting food.

You are indeed lucky that out of a couple of hundred people in the soi, your boyfriend was the only 'eye candy'; he must indeed be something special.

As to the owner who was hitting on you and your boyfriend ---- are you sure that he was an owner and not a 'rent-an-owner' imposter?

Because I was intrigued by the 100% negativity of your message, I scanned your previous messages on this board and couldn't find one that had any positive comments or offering any constructive criticism on any subject.

As you are no cheapskate --- we know this because your boyfriend isn't into cheap charlies-- please enlighten us all as to where you would recommend a decent respectable non-cheap-Charlie farang to go with his boyfriend for a drink and a meal where he would be served by eye candy waiters with healthy, tasty food and not leched at by other customers and owners.
We now know that you do not like Bangkok or Jomtien. So is your preference Boyztown or Sunnee Plaza? No cheap charlies there!

I have a suggestion for you---- make a mid-year resolution "I resolve to make one positive posting every ten or so times that I post".

Honey, I know exactly where youтАЩre coming from and I feel your pain. I have lost count of the number of places me and my b/f have been to and we have been the only ones worth looking at.

Often, I step out onto the street from my magnificent residence and think that IтАЩve entered a fairground тАШHall of MirrorsтАЩ тАУ everyone else is so ugly: either short and fat or tall, thin and misshapen. Nobody else is worth looking at тАж including you тАж and youтАЩre gorgeous!

We went to Ocean World but were asked to leave because all the customers were ogling us instead of the halibut.

It really is a mixed blessing being so good looking that everyone wants a piece of your ass. So now, IтАЩve changed the ringtone on my phone to that Jimmy James song тАШFashionistaтАЩ so that callers are greeted with the line тАЬNO ONE UGLY ALLOWEDтАЭ

I called in earlier last night on way to Soi 4 as I wanted to try the male sauna at the steps from OHR in Silom. I skipped down the stairs as I was in a great mood , walked almost into the foyer and found 5 Chinese in there, going through the photos.

Yes I relied on just arriving and getting whatever boy I wanted. I was still peeved 3 hours later when I went home. A friend I met said the sauna in Soi Twilight was also full late afternoon.

I skimmed back through the 3 weeks posts and most comments here are about Asians not taking boys off from bars. Well they were at the sauna where I planned to go.

Now I have to get their earlier to get first choice.

Sit can be found tending bar at:
The BarbicanтАО
Thanon Thaniya
Suriya Wong, Bang Rak, Bangkok 10500, Thailand
02-2343590

At least as of two weeks ago. However, he was been at a few places since he left Balcony.
If you ask any of the old-time bartenders at Balcony, they can usually tell you where to find him as they
are all longtime friends.
