For some time I have suggested that local Pattaya businesses get together as a group or as individuals, to promote Pattaya. I have seen nothing and wondered if any gay businesses thought it worthwhile trying, or making the effort.

This week Q Magazine in Australia has produced a Pattaya special featuring Baan Souy Resort on the front page. Page 4 writeup besides a full page ad, 4 more pages featuring the Resort, Boysboysboys, Ambiance, the Lounge and the Boyzgym. Elsewhere in the magazine is a full page featuring Happyplace Bar and the sawatdee-gay-thailand.com forum.

The ad can be seen as part of the main page at

All around the world there are gay travel agencies that can be shown what can be done about Pattaya. Many travel agents get free flights from airlines to visit places like this, and they also get heavily discounted hotel bookings.

Maybe this could be the start of a trend. Madam Jim and co are to be congratulated . Hopefully others will now follow.

You think this is going to bring people flocking to Pattaya? You don't have to leave the comfort of any gay ghetto in the world to find better than this. If the article is worth seeing, it is to remind you how bad the gay scene here has become over the last 15 years.

I think for some closet cases that do not frequent the bars but may run across a copy of this, well it may attract a few. Can't hurt and better than doing nothing. Same reason this board is taking ads out around the world. Get them to join and hopefully get some interested in Thailand.

But - I'm assuming that the article was essentially an advertorial and that the ads had to be paid for - do you see yourself getting a return on your outlay?

:dontknow:

I know the editor and he is a friend of mine. OK aquaintance. LOL! I advertise Sawatdee Forum because I am still trying to get people involved in the forum to add people for my members to associate with.

The bar? No but if people are coming to Pattaya maybe, just maybe they will stop in.

One of the largest GLBT websites in the world's July offering, does not include a single mention of Thailand in the extensive report of what is going on in the Gay World.

Its all very well to sit back and claim people will rush into Pattaya, but I think Pattaya has disappeared from what is going on in the Gay World.

Publicity is necessary and in many cases it does not have to be paid for.

BTW the article I opened this post with, was included in the google Pattaya report today, for those that receive local news on a daily basis.

Nicky seems to have had excellent coverage until a few more locations were added.

Gay magazines these days as all about being politically correct marrying your boyfriend and being young young young their not going to write stories about how great it is that a old guys can go to some seedy resort in the third world to pay guys a third there age to have sex with them the gay world has moved on?

Absolutely right. Pattaya cannot be truthfully - or believably - marketed as a gay holiday destination like any other.

In any case, advertorials, though comparatively cheap to produce, reflect the lack of professional marketing skills of most gay business owners and are relatively ineffective. Pattaya needs - or, if collective action proves impossible, its individual gay businesses need - a professionally constructed and implemented marketing and PR strategy that cannot be produced on the cheap and will take some time to turn the place's image around (if that is the desired outcome).
