View Full Version : New Bottled Wine at Happy Place?

Neal

Becuase some posters were talking about the box Mont Clair wine and their dislike for it, we have purchased a few assorted bottles of red and white wine. Not so much boxed red and white Mont Clair left so as soon as we finish it up, we will start testing out the replacement brand (s).

Customers should remember that if they don't like a brand name, speak up! As everyone sells Mont Clair we were unaware that many wine drinkers only drank it because it was the only thing offered!

Well over the next few weeks come in to Happy Place and test out our new red and white wines and give us your opinion so we know which is preferred and will change to that name brand.

Happy Place - a customer concerned bar.

PS M the managers birthday is the 31st of May. Come on in and join the party!

...as soon as we finish it up, we will start testing out the replacement brand...

It's great to know that, from now on, all the wine @ Happy Place will taste like it's been passed by the management.

There you go Joe - you cant get much more of an invitation than that now !!! lol - However if I was you I would have a good look at the labels before they pour as I'm guessing it'll be the last dredges of the Mont Claire you may be getting in your glass with the good stuff being kept until the high class VIP guests all start arriving around July lol :-))

May 25th, 2012, 16:32
high class VIP guests arriving in July? I told you before, NIrish Guy, I'm going in June - do try to keep up, dear. :occasion9:

I presume it will be one free glass of each type of wine? Can't wait to see what nibbles will accompany the free wine tasting.

Neal
May 25th, 2012, 16:43
Maybe some cheese and crackers if I know the exact date you will honour me with your presence. Joe, remember the wine tests will be free but OH the price of the glasses! :evil4:

joe552
May 25th, 2012, 17:11
sneaky bastard :occasion9:

I have a dinner date for the night I arrive (6th) so hope to see you on the 7th. Anyway, nibbles are not too important - I never eat on an empty stomach :occasion9:

May 25th, 2012, 18:04
I presume it will be one free glass of each type of wine?

Oh Joe - one minute talking about being a VIP and the next mixing the grape between red and white......really, do you really have to shame all of us Irish people in such a public way ! :-(( It's just as well the REAL VIP's are coming in July to make up for your backwater irish redneckedness :-(( lol

I can see I have to be much plainer in my speaking so that I don't confuse people from over the border. I was referring to different kinds of red wine and different kinds of white wine. I only drink red, so Neal doesn't have to stock up on the cheap white till July when the plebs arrive. :occasion9:

might be a good idea to do the dame with its boys, its been a while but one time while there and in happy bar I ran in to one of those guys with a Cock that had been filled with Silicon, that was a huge turn off for me. I assume everyone else would want the real thing with their guys as much as with their wine.

joe552
May 26th, 2012, 01:56
thanks Wesley, you've put me right off. maybe I'll stick to drinking DaBoss' wine and having a wank in my room :dontknow:

May 26th, 2012, 03:04
Wes. I don't like silicone either. Where was this Happy Bar and how long ago was it as you say a while ago? :dontknow:

( preferrably one where everyone else gets naked and I rather than scare the locals am allowed to keep my pants on perhaps !! lol

Haven't been to Amsterdam in several years. I used to go to a club called Blue Boy and then another upstairs. If you went out the back door, there were a few along that street that were fun. One was run by a nasty Russian chap and while he was an ass, the boys were fabulous. After a few years I felt Amsterdam going downhill so I would love to hear a 2012 modern day review.
I also remember back then the boys worked strict shifts and you could count on what time you could run into someone. As time went along though, the boys just showed up when they showed up. See if they still have photo albums!

NIrish Guy, have a fabulous weekend in Amsterdam, but DO keep your pants on - skid marks are not very attractive in an adult male :occasion9:

May 26th, 2012, 03:41
How did we get from bottled wine to Amsterdam? Irish! Open up an Amsterdam thread and while you are at it wash those skid marks off your face also. :evil4:

Maybe NIrish Guy intends to drink some cheap wine through his shorts in Amsterdam? Sounds to me like he's up for anything. :party

May 26th, 2012, 04:01
I would tell you all about it joe but I'd have to open a new thread and I simply couldn't be arsed so you'll have to use your inagination :-)) but my god the guy on the stage in front of me has one hugely impressive cock !! - oops there's another new thread needed :-) better go before I feel the rath of he who must be obeyed :-)) lol

Yeah, stop looking at all those big cocks on the porn on your phone and try to find some real ones. :laughing3:

The addition of bottled wine is refreshing news. Many proprietors believe bottled wine will spoil and thus prefer the boxed wine but, if kept chilled, the bottle wine will keep although not indefinitely. One restaurant, Cherrys, does serve a good bottle/jug wine of Italian origin.

Correspondence from Wesley has confirmed that the silicone cock that was a turn off was NOT at Happy Place Bar as previously insinuated to.

Forgive my ignorance once again, folks, but is there a way to know before one off's a boy if he has silicone in his appendage? I've never checked the goods before I rent, so I'd imagine it's not something that's obvious? I really don't like the idea of discovering this once back in my room. :dontknow:

Happy Place would not be a bar where I would check the merchandise, on the other hand, Happy Boy Bar has it all on display. From my observations the bars in Sunee Plaza are more liberal in their policy of handling and inspecting the merchandise. Typically a 20 Baht tip will suffice; if a danseur is very shy it is likely he is naturally small or unnaturally large.

May 27th, 2012, 04:03
very helpful, francois, merci, but I actually wouldn't know what to look for. I've never seen a cock with silicone, so wouldn't know how it is different from one that hasn't. I know, I've led a very sheltered life. That'll be my Catholic upbringing. :dontknow:

Neal
May 27th, 2012, 04:26
All I can say is that I really do love all of my boys. I genuinely feel sorry for boys that try stupid things one of which being someone talking them into putting silicone in to make their cock bigger.

I think that "M" the owner of Happy Place and being a go go boy for a few years at Funny Boys makes for a much more fun place to work as most of the boys are friends that he used to work with. He understands what they go through and how to talk to them. They all seem very happy.

This thread really illustrates why I love this board - we've gone from wine tasting in Pattaya to the pleasures of Amsterdam down the years, and back to Pattaya's less welcome elements. Well done all who've contributed. :notworthy:

Obviously I was talking about happy Bar in the outskirts of Sunee Plazza, the one they are talk about above may be a find place to go , I honestly can not say for sure.

Indeed. I sued the Catholic church because I wasn't abused as an altar boy :dontknow:

May 27th, 2012, 23:44
And I'm suing my parents for NOT bringing me up a catholic and thus negating all those opportunities for random gay sex with the priest/s - thankfully though it seems I haven't been to damaged by the experience and seem to have managed to keep up with the level of sex required to keep the membership card as issued by the gay union of Ireland.

Ps on a different note ( and I'll get told off for not starting a new thread no doubt :-) but what the hell - im sitting here in a bar having a beer grinning like a chesire cat as I'm just out of thermos suana where I nailed what has to be one of hottest wee Indonesian guys that I've done in a long time he he - all of a sudden I like Amsterdam today And I'm meeting him tonight for some food and round two :-)) - oh and I'll have some wine with the meal - there WINE ! still on topic !!! lol

Going back to the changing of the wine, I have tried a new wine and am getting mixed reaction. Someone said Monte Clair was better than the new red but the white was good. I have been told that a bottle of wine and pouring decent glasses would yield 4 1/2 glasses per bottle.

With this in mind, I would like to ask a serious question.
What would you think if a bar offered the Monte Clair box wine at regular price and then a 300 baht glass for good white or red wine. The customer decides which type of wine he wants. Boxed or a better wine? If you spend about 1,000 baht on a bottle and get 4 1/2 glasses out of it, you surely can't charge regular price.

So. Are there enough nice wine drinkers out there that would buy a better wine?

June 4th, 2012, 16:44
Well, I'm not a big wine drinker myself. In my country, we like to rape the white wine by adding ice. I couldn't drink the stuff otherwise either. But I do like my Bacardi and hate to drink most other brands of RUM. In Vietnam's backpack area I often have the choice between the cheap stuff and the regular Bacardi. I'm happy to pay a bit more.

I can imagine that this difference of taste is much more important with wine. So from that perspective is an offering of a somewhat more exclusive wine for a higher price a great idea. How can you go wrong there? Penny pincers (in other words Joe :tongue3: ) can still have their boxed wine.

joe552
June 4th, 2012, 16:48
I enjoy drinking wine, but wouldn't pay 300Bt for a glass - I can get a bottle here for 240Bt. Yes, I'm a cheap charlie and proud of it. I'll try the expensive red at Neal's but I'm no expert so I'll defer to those who know better :occasion5:

So. Are there enough nice wine drinkers out there that would buy a better wine?
I probably would, but that's not much use to you as I am probably only in your bar for 1 or 2 nights a year! One of the problems you will have is keeping it - once a bottle of wine is opened and the air gets to it, it starts to oxidise and go off quite quickly. I'd suggest getting one of these:
http://www.vacuvinonline.com/wine/B000GA3KCE/
I have one myself, and it works to keep the wine fresh.

June 4th, 2012, 21:54
Thanks for that info Ceejay. I just ordered it. Have you used it before? Any idea about how much longer it would let the red and white last?
I am going to get about 6 bottles of each and pick a week, open them and have a wine tasting. I am going to cover the labels so that people can't see where they are from etc. Then Monte Clair can be the house wine and selected bottles will be our better wine that we will be serving for those who want it. We have not thought of the definite price per glass yet as we need to see the prices of the wine that gets selected. there will not be anything outrageous but certainly much better wines. :alc:

I have one and, to be honest, I don't often keep a bottle of wine long enough to find out!* It's certainly good for 24 hours or more, so you will at least be able to open a bottle one day, and keep it overnight to sell the unsold portion the next.

*The one I have was bought for me as a present. I thought I'd give it a try, so I opened a bottle of red. Well, I got watching a show on TV and, before you knew it, the whole bottle was gone. So, I thought to open another bottle and just have one glass from that - all in the interests of experiment, of course. In the end, it wasn't until half way down the third bottle that my Vacuvin got to be used. The experiment was a failure - I couldn't tell if the wine had been preserved or not, because the whole world tasted like an old sock the next day. But, I've used it since, and it does work.

Suggest you just keep decent wine to sell by the bottle, like spirits.

joe552
June 5th, 2012, 03:28
Would many of the boys drink wine? I met one guy last year who did, but wonder if having a bottle of wine to share would be as popular as a bottle of whiskey? I agree though that the expensive stuff should probably be sold by the bottle rather than the glass.

Not wine but related:

There is at least one [gay] bar [in Pattaya] that serves free peanuts. I just don't like peanuts, there are a lot of people who are even allergic to peanuts. How about serving roasted and salted cashew nuts instead of peanuts? I love them! (I once discussed this with a friend, he said peanuts are the cheapest choice, he is probably right, therefore the proverbial "peanuts".)

June 5th, 2012, 04:40
Not many drink wine but there are a few. really they will drink whatever is open.

Christian.
We try to alternate a little. First of all when we have snacks which we have now, we serve only Tong Garden which are a very high quality and not like beer nuts. Although we have peanuts 75% more often it is because peanuts and mixed fun nuts are 250 a kilo. We do have a couple of mags of Kong Garden cashew nuts that we put out every once in a while but the cost jumps to 650 a kilo.

Wines kept refrigerated keep a week; reds longer than whites. My suggestion is pour an 8 oz glass rather than a 4 oz and the bottle will be empty much faster and not spoil.

I am not a wine drinker, but am curious. How much demand is there for wine at a gogo bar? I just do not picture wine being the drink of choice. Much the same as a disco visit....are a lot of customers really drinking wine?

June 5th, 2012, 09:06
Then there are those cheap charlies that OFF a bottle of wine from a package store cutting the bar out of the transaction. :tongue3:

June 5th, 2012, 12:59
Francios, very good but not profitable, eh? You would be happy. :sign5:

Bucknaway, if the customer buys a bottle and brings it to the bar they get charged a corkage fee. The reason this would not bother me with reference to wine is that they get the exact one they want and everyone is happy. I just don't think anyone would bring wine to a bar. Booze yes.

Anonone, There are few wine drinkers. You would be surprised.

June 6th, 2012, 00:23
OK, well the wines are in and we are going to start serving them and looking for feedback. A small selection of Chiliean, Italian, Australian and Californian wines in both red and white will be available for 200 baht per glass starting June 7th. A new bottle will be opened as the first ones are depleated as we don't want to have them all go bad on us.

Come on round and check out the wines and by all means, let us know what you think of it so that we can decide which ones to stock in the bar.
