The Silom Branch of California Fitness will close soon along with the Asoke branch and one other. Apparently California Fitness has been in some financial difficulty with the banks. I'm sure this will piss off some Silom residents with memberships at California Fitness.

That rumor has been bouncing around for the past 6 years. Also the rumor has it that the Pattaya branch is to close.

Their lifetime membership was always a great deal at around 10,000 bht 2 years ago. Seems like this time they will be shutting down in its present form. There again no doubt someone
will try to buy the leftovers and start again. Looks like Bangkok Bank have a large exposure....

This time it is for real. It is in the Bangkok Post and the Nation. Next month they will close Silom, Ratchayothin, Chaeng Wattana and Sukhumvit soi 23 (Asoke) branches. Pattaya and Chiang Mai branches will not close.

It's strange they are keeping the Ekkamai branch open. It's tiny compared to the one's they are closing.

apparently they are going to go for smaller venues not necessarily in the big centres. Don't know how that will work as smaller venues will mean bigger crowds that then get angry and piss off!
Further on Thai business-the musical chair that is the President of Thai Air. I knew one once but he was there for only a few weeks. Used to be a great airline.

Annual memberships of Fitness Centres are often a rip-off unless you are one of the very early ones. A new centre opens and rakes in squillions in annual [or worse still lifetime as the average lifetime is only a few years anyway] membership fees. Then they have to maintain centre and staff with little of no daily income. This has been happening all over the world for the past 30 years and still thousands lose their membership dues time and again.

It will not stop until the directors get prosecuted...unearned income shoudl be kept in trust and only transferred as it becomes earned! The only safe fitness centre to join is where you can pay a monthly membership fee, as it is too easy for the 'bosses' to take the money and run! The bigger they are the more likely it is to happen. In general all the equipment is just leased, original investment is minimal.
