Hi All
Has anyone out there bought an Entry Level Laptop in pattaya recently?

Looking to know pricing on basic model (i3 Processor, 4GB Memory, 500GB HD, 11-14" Screen, built in Webcam) from Big C, or any of the bigger retailers in Tuk Com (IT City) or Central Festival (PowerBuy)

If anyone has any up to date knowledge on pricing it would be appreciated

Whats this got to do with gay thailand?

It will be used for cruising Gayromeo, facebook, Camfrog and posting oon this forum...when i am in Thailand... so this posts purpose is entirely gay! :kap:

You should be able to get something like that for around 12,000 baht, I'd say.

I went to Tukcom and I think third or 4th floor there was a Power Buy. Also next door to it is a shop with good but inexpensive computers.

For the tasks listed, have you considered something like an iPad instead of laptop / netbook?

I picked one up for travel and absolutely love it. VERY portable, easy to take along, starts up quickly and great battery stamina. By the way, one of the beach chairs (Rainbow beach - #25 I think) has free wifi service with chair rental.

For websurfing, webcam, and posting it is hard to beat. The only downside is reduced storage capacity, if you are looking to load up with movies, photos, etc. as well as a bit of a higher price tag.

Just a thought.

If you can wait till may there are likely to be a lot of pads on the market. Assuming some people would rather eat than have their babies using a computer

Hi Guys
Thanks for the information

Basically i have a 2 year old laptop that i have been offered тВм350 for on a classified site in Ireland
After getting my shiney new Alienware laptop i was going to give it to BF...

However seeing as the тВм350 will realise 14000 THB i am thinking i may as well trade it in for a new machine (With Thai keyboard)
And let BF use that instead... everyone wins (Except the guy buying teh old laptop off of me!)

For the tasks listed, have you considered something like an iPad instead of laptop / netbook?

As someone that spends his days trying to fend my corner in work against the apple fan boys - i would rather be castrated than own a iAnything!

Whatever it is it will have an intel processor and run windows :lam: :lam:

going slightly off topic what age is the laptop/tablet that most of use on here?? -- mine is a 6+ yo compaq laptop -- its showing its age now -- my ex Phil BF who is a total Apple freak nevers stops laughing when i pull it out of my luggage ---
But ive pulled in a lot of guys with over the years !!!

Lately if we use it in bed i have to put one of the big floor fans blowing at so it wont overheat --(one guy in house a few months ago caused it to overheat )

I find it to be a good icebreaker with new guys !!!

so avg age anybody ??

That\'s a bit optimistic Matt .... expect to pay 15-16k for an i3 depending on the spec ... no legit software of course!

I usually buy a new one every year or two at the most. But that's simply because this is my livelihood, so I make sure I'm running good equipment. Got this one about 4 months now. I get fairly high-end, but not the absolute best, because then you end up paying an arm and a leg for technology that's going to be obsolete in 3 months.

Nice. I love your style. :notworthy:

But it doesn't have to be an iPad. Any tablet would be do the trick.

I am loving the portability of these things. I resisted for some time, but now pretty sold. Easy to cart around and my BF loves surfing ( the web ) while at the beach.

And very easy to use in your sandwich searches...might even find a whole buffet. :sign5:

I loved using my Ipad while in Thailand. Being able to be connected to the internet while being driven from BKK to Pattaya came in handy. I also had my old laptop with me but I found myself using the ipad far more often than I did my laptop. As a matter of fact, I only used my laptop to connect to Gayromeo because the tablet interface for gay romeo is not so good in my opinion.

I find Windows Fan-boys to be just as annoying as Apple fan-boys. I have a PC at home, but for traveling, you can't beat a Macbook Air. Light, efficient and fast. Apple laptops tend to be of better build quality and seem to last longer than Windows Laptops. Then there is the problem with Viruses etc. PC's are great for people with some Tech abilities, but give a Windows PC to your average Thai boy or girl, and you will find it loaded with viruses and malware within a month. I helped my BF get a Macbook after getting tired of spending the first day of my visit cleaning up his laptop. Since the Mac (going on two years), no problems. He's very happy.

Even if i was a fan of iX products... i would not spend the money on one... i prefer to refresh my hardware regularly so usually an upper midrange laptop does me every 12-18 months..

Old laptop sold now so BF will have 14K B to spend on the new laptop +7% cash back on VAT refund (if possible!)
