Looking at the information that is out about this years Nation Party in Phuket seems to show that the rooms in the host hotel are selling out fast!

Can any of you give me a general idea as to where this hotel is as related to the gay Patong area?

Thanks, I found a little more info about the area at http://www.phuket.com/gay/ Do you know how far it is from Patong?

As far as I can remember Karon is about 20 minutes ride or drive from Patong.

From Patong to Karon Beach is 10 kilometers (or even slightly less), so it shouldn't take 20 minutes if you rent a motorbike (inexpensive rentals can be found at Connect GuestHouse) or car, or use a song taoew or motobike taxi (found everywhere ... negotiate hard on the price). Except for to & from the airport, taxis are not available (as far as I can remember. Haven't been to Patong for 2 years so things may have changed).

By public (local) bus it will probably take 20 minutes due to stops.

Cheers ...

Smiles, I will never understand why you do not move to Thailand and open a travel agency :geek:

I stayed at Hilton Arcadia last year during the Nations Party. Many Tuk Tuk waited outside, they asked for 100 baht to go to the Crown Plaza where the party was held. The ride is like less than 2 minutes, the walk is 10 minutes. Those Tuk Tuk drivers certainly know how to make money.
Hilton is a beautiful and huge resort complex. I seriously doubt Nations can have exclusive use of the complex like they did last year at Crown Plaza.
sure enough, I just checked Hilton's website, I am able to book the room on Hilton's website (widely available...so there will be many many straight men and women there too.

Yes, well that's what I meant by negotiating "hard". With few taxis as competition they try and charge ridiculous prices. Many stupid farangs pay it, no questions asked ... the tuktuk guys (et al) see that, and keep trying higher: capitalism at it's best and most basic.
The exact same dynamic can be seen on Silom Rd after the bars close ... drunken farangs paying any price to get back to their hotels with their conquests-de-nuit before the triple hit of viagra wears off. Walk off Silom to Rama 4 or slightly beyond and pay "by meter".

I don't blame the Thai guys in the least.

Cheers ...

... they are expecting a massive turnout as I believe they are already making plans for overflow rooms at Club One Seven and other guesthouses and hotels.

Fridae.com. will be selling rooms from host hotel Hilton Phuket Arcadia and will mark up the price slightly to sell on their own website.

No need to negotiate with tuktuk drivers at Hilton Arcadia, they simply refuse to drive you if you don't pay their price...period. You can try negotiating with one driver after another, and keep going and going. At the end, you may or may not get yoru price, but you have just wasted a lot of your time under the burning sun and humid/steamy weather.
When it comes to taxi/tuktuk, I view it as a write-off from the other things that I enjoy in LOS.
In fact, I do not enjoy "bargaining hard" when doing my purchase in LOS, so I go to department store where I can enjoy a better shopping experience.

Taken from Nation VI page off Fridae.com There could be a problem with the dates of Nation VI depending on whether there is an Election on October 22. Of course I have already booked for Nation IV and the hotel. Leave it to the Thai government to think its citizens can't vote and drink. Just thought those of you interested in Nation VI should keep your eyes on the Nation VI on Fridae.com

According to the latest updates, Thailands's three top courts have rejected a proposal made earlier this week by the Election Commission for the new poll to be held on October 22. Nation tickets sales and hotel bookings will continue but patrons are forewarned that the Nation schedule is subject to change as the Election Commission and courts decide on a new elections date.
We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter.

The Election Commission of Thailand has tentatively scheduled parliamentary elections for Oct. 22, subject to approval by the Cabinet. During the election period, no parties or celebrations are supposed to be held, and alcohol sales are prohibited. We are temporarily ceasing ticket and hotel bookings whilst we await the decision of the Cabinet and if necessary, attempt to confirm a new date for Nation VI. We expect to have confirmation from both Hilton Phuket Arcadia and the Tourism Authority of Thailand by Tuesday 23 May. We regret the unforeseen circumstances, and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Nation party is hosted by a Singaporean organizer, and most of participants of this party are Singaporeans. Some from other part of east asia such as Taiwan, HK, ...etc. But very few Thai.
If you are going to Nation party, thinking those guys are as nice and friendly as Thais, you are wrong. Nation party has nothing (or very little) to do with Thailand or Thai gays.

I was in Phuket during the last Nations Party and there were a lot of Thai guys attending the events. Many from Pattaya went as a group. The guys were talking about it in the saunas, in the bars and were showing their tickets with pride. Sometimes I think we underestimate the Thai people.

Even now you can log onto Fridae and see the many Thai that claim to be going.

But for me, I am very much in a minority class when I am in Thailand. You would be surprised by the level of attention I get... I know it mostly comes from my being a black American but I still enjoy it :geek:

less than 1 out of 10 Nation party goers is Thai. So is this a lot of Thais?..considering this party is held in Thailand.

and...I would rather get the attention from people because of my good look and body. :sleepy1:

Most of the guys I met who were attending Nations were Thai. Now next week in Washington DC, they are having gay black & Latino pride weekend. It is almost a circuit party event and the out-of-towners will outnumber the DC guys by a long shot!

But at any rate, none of the Thai seem to be complaining about the cost. They are simply happy to be able to go and are happy it is held in Thailand.

And as far as why guys like you? What can I say... Just be happy and enjoy the blessings :) I do :)

Phuket tuk-tuk drivers have supposedly all agreed, as a group, that the fare for any trip is 100 baht within a single beach area. No matter how short it is. If they go below that, and another driver finds out, they get into trouble.

I never wanted to be the first to "complain" about that. The days of the 20 baht songthaew (sp?) ride around Patong are long over. I must also say that the current regime with the red made-in-Korea tuk-tuks are a bit more abrasive than the old songthaew drivers. Along with what I will call the "greedy hotels" my days in Patong ended many years ago.

You know.... Your right... If it was not for the Nations party, I would not be going back to Phuket. On my last trip to Thailand I had a lot of fun in Pattaya and in Bangkok. Just hanging out with the guys and enjoying their company as they try to figure out if your gay and if you are how they can seduce you.... If they are not the type to just flat out tell you they want sex with you LOL

If you have never played the game of seduction with a Thai guy then you have not lived :geek:
