Thanks to all who helped with suggestions on recent tripping.

Here are some pics as a way of saying thanx. May be also of interest to those who are not in LOS at the moment but freezing somewhere...

Trip time was late Dec 11/early Jan 12. The morning at Sukothai was stunning. In fact the weather for the whole trip was perfect.

Sukothai Historical Park is a wonderful place to visit (anytime ) but esp for Loy Krathtrong !!!!

Agreed. Sukhothai is great. At Loy Krathong it is spectacular. I assume you made it over to Si Satchanalai as well.

yes i went there on one trip - but we went there late one evening so didnt see much of it !!

But i think Nothing will ever compare to me as the Sukothai Historical Park --

my (now ex ) boyfriends home is on the edge of the park -- i loved the way you can rent the bikes and explore the park !! --

And for Loy Kathtrong --words fail me (for a change lol )to describe what its like for LK !!

At night is best -- all the Thais mingling with family and friends ,the temples (chedi ) light up .
the moon reflecting off the many pools all through the park -- and the Loy (lanterns )soaring into the night sky !!

I must say i found it very emontial the whole experience with my guy - As we launched our kathrong --and i watched the expression on his face as we watched it float ALL the way across to the opposite bank !!! --both of us were teary eyed lol

For Thai i believe they think that if this happens it means you will stay with your partner long time --wrong in this case (,but that was my fault ,not anybody elses !! )
And i do rem that the sex we had on that trip back to his home was very very passionate between us (we were together over a year and half at that stage so it wasnt as if it was with a new partner like it sometimes does !!)

Did you visit the chedi (cannot rem name) way up high outside the park?? (locals tell you its a fantastic place to watch the sun rise) but its well worth the visit !!

Whereas floating small boats is р╕ер╕нр╕вр╕Бр╕гр╕░р╕Ч р╕З loi gr├а-tong.

WHATever i meant (and was told it was called that name ) the whole experience was out of this world and i felt very privileged as a farang to to be able to firstly see it and secondly to be part of the celebrations with my BF and his family !!

I will never forget leaving his home on the big nite -- we all went in one of those pickups so common in Thailand -- and i counted 18 of us in the damm thing !!!
and two of the most adorable 3 yo twin brothers (names L and M ) Bf nephews ) wrapped around my neck for the journey !!!

No money could replicate that experience for me as that nite !!

Im soso sorry i missed it last year -- me and bf had made plans to go there but it didnt happpen !!

The memories of the year i was there i hope will not leave me --

"Amazing Thailand " as the slogan goes does not do Sukothai @ Loy Krathong justice !!
