Plenty of boys at Saran Rom Park

Previous visits to Saran Rom Park (in Thai: р╕кр╕гр╕▓р╕Нр╕гр╕бр╕в р╣М) were unsatisfactory due to low number of boys, but on my last holiday there was a decent choice.

I went to Saran Rom Park three times (Thursday 22.12.2011, Thursday 05.01.2012, Monday 09.01.2012) and found between 30 and 50 boys there (numbers estimated).
I was there between 9 pm and midnight.

Boys are available around the Grand Palace and around Saran Rom Park. The highest density is along the canal east of Saran Rom Park (Rachini road and Atsadang road). Lover activity between Saran Rom Park and Royal Palace (Sanam Chai road), lowest activity north, south and west (Maharat road) of Royal Palace.

A price of 500 baht for short time was quoted throughout. Add to this cost for short time hotel or money for taxi for the boy to get back if you take him to your hotel.

Walking the entire area takes about half an hour. I saw cars cruising the area, if they drove slowly or stopped, the boys went to the car and negotiations took place. Only little English is spoken. Boys in groups approached me when I walked past, I had to start conversations with those sitting alone. Based on my observations, this area is safe. Chatting (in English and Thai) was entertaining and fun. Highly recommended, I will go again on my next holiday.

I am very picky. On my first visit there were no stunners, yet I made a list in mind which one to take on my second round (see above, about 30 minutes walking). But then I met a student (who obviously was not there to sell his body, which did not prevent him from asking for 500 baht for taxi when he left my hotel room) north of the Royal Palace, who went with me. On my third visit, I spotted two boys who were worth taking home. I took one of them. He performed similar to bar boys. He had some tattoos I didnтАЩt see when I choose him (as he was fully dressed). He had some pimples (spots, zits), the biggest ones on his butt and some of them weeping. I wonder what this was, some skin disease or insect bites? Upon leaving, I gave him 500 baht plus 100 baht for taxi. He was asking for another 100 baht, called a friend, but then dropped the subject. If I understood correctly, the further 100 were because he had to go to another district (I stayed in Sathorn), but thatтАЩs what the 100 for taxi are for. I am not a charity.

North of this area, east and southeast of Sanam Luang Park, is a night market that is worth visiting as well. It closes about midnight.

Rumors say that you can pick up army boys in uniform in the afternoon when they finish work (on a previous holiday, I saw droves of them walking home around 4 to 5 pm), can someone confirm? The park itself is closed at night, is there any activity during day?

Side note: A friend mentioned that he often gets boys from Hua Lampong railway station in the evening and at night. So I went there as well, but found only low activity. They were outside the railway station and at the canal west of the railway station. About 500m into Chinatown, there were plenty of ladies. Street trade for locals, 500 Baht. Short time hotels availabe in the area.

Another side note: another friend mentioned boys in Lumpini park in the afternoon. Can someone confirm?

Amazing what the human mind can ignore when the subject is coupling, and Mr Happy shouting "release me!!".
Somewhere along the way I would have thought that the 'weeping' part would have been a slight turnoff.
Must be a 'Christian' thing.

What particularly amused me was his statement 'I am very picky'. Goodness knows what he considers a devil-may-care attitude to partner selection. Or perhaps he is using 'picky' in some unconventional sense to do with the taking of pleasure in picking spots, pimples, zits etc. Ooh, let's not go there...

How generous you are.

I like the sound of the soldier boys though...as I envision a slim fem army boy standing there with his perfectly tailored OD green shirt tucked neatly in his snug fitting pants...with polished boots...glimmering brass belt buckle...and a hint of mascara.

Be amazed no longer. I know that christian is talking from real experience - he has actually been to the park and if that is the going rate, then he paid it.

I have no problem with the amount people pay for sex. The guys are independent contractors. As an 'auditor" (international, to boot! :sign5: ) I thought you'd know that.

No, I have trouble with posters saying they paid a certain amount when it is clear they were nowhere near Thailand at the time. And with posters saying they picked up construction workers who were not on the game and probably not gay, and fucked them. Had you said you sa=moked them or chuck wowed them, you may have been believed. Afterall, that is entirely possible. But fucking them?????

I have a problem with your lack of credibility, not with what you reckon you pay.

according to the fountain of all off fees

There is no such fountain. FYI the guys use the expression "up to you." Why am I not surprised you haven't heard that??

In any case, even if the fountain existed there is one thing certain - you have never drunk from it.

Hey Poxxy, let me answer your query:

Nobody has attacked Christianpfc for paying 500B because we accept that he's a tightwad.

You, on the other, hand are a pervert.

Hence the different treatment.

Hope that clears it up for you.

It was a turn off, but I still managed to get value for my 500 Baht. If you read between the lines, it says that I wouldn't have taken this boy in a bar (he being in underwear and I seing his tattoos and pimples/spots/zits).

What is an OD green shirt? I wonder if boys can keep their uniform after they leave the army. In Germany, you keep part of your uniform and the rest is cheaply available second hand, so I have an almost complete uniform at home. Two Thai friends are currently in the army, and I hope I can see them in uniform!

Yes but lately Latin has tried to turn over a new leaf so to speak

I'll be at your door again early April, Neal. I'll bet you will still be laughing out loud at the above comment!! Surely tongue in cheek (pardon the pun)!

We can also have a laugh at one of his earlier comments about your bar. This one:

Just totally annoying when I walk into a bar and the mamasan hovers whilst continually badgering me to buy a boy...non stop...happy place was the worst...

Yet more proof he WASN'T IN PATTAYA! Anyone on this board who has been to HP now knows latin is a total fake! We all know that Happy Place is the only bar where you are NEVER EVER badgered to buy another drink or off a boy. I posted this info in my Pattaya report. Perhaps you'd like to describe the hovering mamasan, latin. What about it? Was he tall? Short? Long hair? Fat? Spoke English well, did he?

Come on, describe him!

He also wrote that even though he was in pattaya, he wouldn't bore us with any details. That's because he obviously didn't have any. hehe.

Caught out again, eh? Latin, you are a sad fuck, you really are!

Latin doesn't need to turn over a new leaf - he needs to simply turn over and go back to his dreamed up lifestyle of wealth and privilege, whilst we wallow in poverty. You know the one - the international high flyer hopping around the world at his employer's expense, living a life of luxury, asking " difficult questions and" making "difficult decisions," all the while being paid very well for a job ,the responsibilities of which he isn't even aware.

Come on Latin, answer the question. Are you a financial auditor or a quality auditor?

Well?

Reminds me of the 3 military high school fem boys I saw walking arm-in-arm on the skytrain station at Siam one afternoon. Their makeup went well with their impeccable military greens and boots. One had a sprinkle of silver glitter on his face. One of those "only in Thailand" sights.

The ethics, or otherwise, of this practice kept us entertained for weeks. Those were the days.

Update: I went yesterday (Thursday 07.03.2013) around 21:20 to 22:20. One large round (walk a '8' around Saranrom and Royal Palace) takes me about 1 hour. I counted 42 boys, of which two did not look Thai to me (I would have guessed they are Arabs or Latinos, I asked them in English, I should have asked in Thai) and three looked underage (I guess 10 years old). For the others, I estimate age 20-25 for the majority.

I saw one boy whom I remember from previous visits. He recognized me as well and told his friend that I went with Chon last time to my place in Sathorn and we had a chuk waow (as far as I could follow their conversation in Thai, all of which is correct, they do not only remember, they tell all the details to their friends!).

None of the boys was my type. Then I walked past a parked car with a woman (driver, I should later learn that it's a man, but shall refer to him as she or her, around 50 years old) and a cute boy (20 years old). They engaged me in a conversation, quickly getting to the point that they want me to join them for a threesome. I was hesitating, but then I thought the worst that can happen is that they tie me up, rape me bareback and infect me with AIDS, not much to lose, so I hopped in the car. We went to a short-time hotel (just around the corner from SAKE - gay disco near Khao San road - as I noticed on our way back). A kind of drive-in short time hotel/motel. A parking place with a curtain is connected to each room, and I saw a Thai man and woman leaving the adjacent room and fresh towels were provided when we parked there and she paid 200 or 300 for the room. There was a large pile of fresh towels and I saw staff wiping the floor of another room. Walls and ceiling have large mirrors.

Altogether an enjoyable experience. I especially appreciate that we skipped showering, as skin is just perfect (warm and dry) when you meet someone on the street or in a bar, and after showering I always have to dry my friends (to remove the last drops of water) but the skin is too cold after shower with cold water. She videoed part of my interaction with the boy with her phone, I made clear that I don't want my face to be recorded and I hope the recordings are only for personal use and will not show up on Youtube or DVDs. Then I learnt that the boy is her boyfriend and they stay together in Pinklao (I was not sure if the boy was working in Saranrom). I should have asked for their phone number for a repeat! I was thinking about it on our way back to Saranrom, but was not sure. This is the first time I hooked up with other customers in an area of gay prostitution.

Fucksake...and this is purely a personal opinion.....i just couldn't be bothered with all that malarkey just to save a few baht....i assume that is what getting boys from this Saranrom park is all about. While i'm sure it might be fairly safe, it sounds way too dodgy for me. All it needs on a 2 on 1 situation with the two to be on drugs, desperate for cash, go to a non-descript short time room where nobody you know actually knows where you are, it's an 'incident' waiting to happen in my opinion. There are tons of willing, cute boys in the much safer environs of silom/suriwong/sathorn for an extra ┬г20, where you are most likely going to go back to your room rather than some anonymous place in an area you know nothing about. I can kinda understand using such a place if you live in Bkk and are absolutely confident of the surroundings and there is someone you know who knows where you are going, but for a visitor it is sheer madness, risking spoiling a 2/3/4 week break for the sake of cheap sex? No doubt Latinpoxxx will remind me of the 'thrill of the chase'...the thrill of being left in some back-street dive drugged or injured with all possessions gone really doesn't attract me. Are my comments an over-reaction or reasonable?

Christian jokes about being tied up, but he wouldn't be the first if it was to happen, even Pattaya has lots of drugging examples for the unwary. The video of the doctor in the Phillipines who was murdered by two gay-for-pay young freelancers whom he took back to his apartment 2 on 1 is an incident which stops me from taking overly risky un-necessary chances. Yes I know it can happen virtually anywhere, but i think the chances increase very dramatically in the senario which Christian describes.

The risky situation with a freelancer with no affilitaions to any bar is one thing in terms of personal safety, but then you have the blackmail risk, police set-up risk, freelancer high on drugs.....etc... the risk certainly for any sane mind should outweigh any potential benefits of such encounters....in fact i cannot see even ONE benefit. I wouldn't even ever agree to 2 on 1 from Gay Romeo, or if i lived in Bkk no way would I have anyone visit my room directly, meet up first would be minimum safety element, never mind a dark area in the region of a foreign city I know nothing about.

As for the no shower before sex after picking up a couple of freelancers in the evening heat of Bkk, well that is very un-thai to say the least. Christian your decision to relocate to Bkk seems to have given you a worringly relaxed attitude, I know in life it can be exciting to 'take chances' or throw caution to the wind sometimes just for the hell of it, but Thailand is just too mercenary as a society, never mind when you mix in drugs and their basic, what seems a complete disregard for consequences. "buddha of course will take care!" as the amount of drunk, helmetless, 70 mph motorcycle drivers will attest.

No.
They are certainly not unreasonable nor an over-reaction; they make perfect sense in any foreign country, especially Thailand.
You have pointed out exactly what risks people like Christian are taking. I've seem to recall numerous articles over the years of gay farang being set up, murdered, assaulted, drugged, etc. etc by freelancers. And let's face it, as Newalaan2 infers in his post - anybody who does that is basically a sitting duck.
It's amazing the lengths people will go to and the risks they will take just to save a few bucks.
But, of course, it's always a case of up2u.

A very sensible post.

And before latin chimes in with his predictable;e "it's the thrill of the chase" line we've heard so often, there doesn't seem to be much of a chase involved. The boys appear to be standing still, waiting for customers!

I was pondering longtime (at least five minutes), standing there with my back bent so I could look into the car while talking with them, then I decided to take the risk. I know the area a bit, so I knew roughly where we were going. Furthermore, I have met several people who do street trade in Thailand and their reports were positive.

You don't only save a few bath (there are bars where the off fee alone is higher than the tip at Saranrom!), there are no mamasans, no drinks, no flashing light and no loud music! But you can't sit (unless you drive in a car) and the boys are in streetclothes (and not in underwear).

That reminds me of the typical response I get when asking my best friend why he hunts anmials. Admittely, I'm a non-hunter...non-killing animals...non-gun type of person and these type of...it's the thrill of the chase" responses never cease to amaze me, but it's humerous anyway.

My friend drives his late model 4-wheel drive SUV (using GPS of course) right up to the patch of woods where he hunts...parks the thing, carries his camoflaged Rambo lunch box and high powered rifle fitted with a military grade sniper scope all of about 100 yards to his $2,000 camoflaged tree stand...positions himself in the tree in the ready position as if he's a special forces commando and waits for an unsuspecting deer to graze into his sights. The most humorous part of this is that the idiot either misses the dam thing or ends up falling out of the tree as he did last year which was just too funny. If only the deer could talk: "Look, here comes that clown with the Rambo lunch box again right on schedule - who's turn is it to run past him this time?

Once to the Malaysia Hotel to a friend's room, on another visit to a hotel in the area (near intersection Bangrunrueang and Tanao, 200 Baht, the first time I used a short time hotel).

They seem to be hesitant to go further away, both times I took one to Sathorn this was met with further demands for money, in addition to the 500 tip and 100 for taxi return, they were asking for another 100 (I could not find out for which reason and did not pay another 100).

The third visit brought something new.

Wednesday 17.04.2013 I went again to Saranrom park, after going to Khao San and the night market east of Sanam Luang. In Khao San, I was asking for genuine passports (hoping to get my stolen one back), to no avail. There is no rummage table with genuine passport (lost, stolen, owner deceased), not even copy passports are available.

Then to the night market (which is on the way to Saranrom anyway). A tall boy walks past in a sleeveless shirt (the style I like), I turn around and recognize a tattoo. He is with another Thai man. I follow him, am able to make eye contact and he recognizes me. I wonder about his relation to the other Thai (if it's his boyfriend, he will not be amused to meet a former customer) and then chat with him. As I remembered: Bom from Udon Thani. It must be two years ago that we met. We exchange phone numbers and part.

Around Saranrom few boys (at 9 pm). There are men digging in the canal, standing up to their neck in the water and shoveling the slick into bags, which are then piled up on the sidewalk. I make one round (about 1 hour, around Saranrom and the palace), but no boy catches my eye. On the second round, it gets more interesting. The boy who remembers me from Nice Boys (Sunee) is there again. There is a cute boy in the group, but he shows no interest in me. After some chatting with the others and ogling at him I ask what he is doing here. He is not available (I overheard one of the other boys advising him to ask for 2000 Baht), so I move on. At a bus stop, a cute boy who was there an hour ago is still sitting there, shows no interest in me so I ask what he is doing there: waiting for a friend. These two incidents show that my previous counts of available boys are 7% too high. Number of boys rise from 9 to 10 to 11pm.

On this trip, there were signs of drug use. One boy was smoking something that was not tobacco and another was sniffing something from a plastic bag and in passing I could get a whiff of it.

While I discuss bus lines with him and a woman who was sitting there waiting for a bus, a car slowly drives past and stops. There is a cute boy on the passenger seat, and the door opens and another cute boy (name Ice) steps out, the same from 07.03.2013! This time, no pondering whether to get in the car or not. The car is different from last time and it takes me a minute to realize that the driver (transvestite, about 50 years old) is different as well. We drive over the bridge to the west side of Chaophraya, this time I have no idea where we are going. Ice gives direction to the driver (did so last time as well) and we go to a more upmarket drive-in short-time hotel (I think it was 400 Baht for short time, with drink and food menu and delivery). After some beer and food and chat we undress. The transvestite is no pretty sight and we do some disgusting sexual activities (I won't bore you with details, it can enter the competition for the lowest point in my sex life) before I can move on to the boys.

Ice clearly enjoys the activities (sucking and getting fucked), but the other boy (Mie) is bored (but hard!), obviously disgusted and even recoils a few times when I touch him. The transvestite takes some pictures of us with his mobile phone. I later ask to see them, they will be worth a lot of money once I am rich and famous. (S)he shows me pictures of other boys (dressed, undressed, erect) as well, there is a large overlap in the type we prefer. We exchange contact information.

(S)he drives us back to Sanam Luang and Ice and I get off the car there. It's about 1 am. Ice suggests we go to Sake (р╕кр╕▓р╣Ар╕Б), gay disco near Trok Sake, not far from Khao San road. I buy drinks for us (beer 120 Baht, sprite 60 Baht), and discover that Bom is there as well (but shows no interest, similar to our encounter at the market earlier the night). They have a show, around 2 pm coyote boys in underwear splashing water over themselves. The bar stools are wet (at least those were the plastic is damaged and the foam exposed), I notice only after a few minutes after sitting down, when the fabric of my trousers is already soaked, so I spend the rest of the night with wet trousers.

I leave about 2:30 am (have to work the following day). Getting up and working is no problem, so I can extend this and go to DJ-station on weekdays as well (cheaper and less crowded than at the weekend).

This encounter poses more questions than it answers. Did the Lord had my passport stolen as a way to get me in contact with Ice again? Without stolen passport, I would not have been at Khao San and not at Saranrom that night. There would have been easier ways! What is Ice's role (he knows the short time hotels and gives directions to the drivers) and what's my role? Where did they get Mie (who is clearly in it for money and whom I never saw in the area before)?

Update 23.04.2013:

I call Ice to meet in the evening, bypassing Saranrom and the transvestites. He suggests Central Pinklao shopping mall (close to his place). While I'm in the taxi (about 50 minutes drive, of which 20 minutes traffic jam), he calls me several times and I give updated estimated time of arrival (30 minutes left, 20 minutes left, 10 minutes left, 5 minutes left). The taxi driver didn't know the way from my place to there and asked if I wanted a U-turn (of course not! I know the direction and take a taxi on the side of the road that goes to my destination), and he didn't know which shopping center is Central Pinklao (he let me out at Major, which is a few hundred meters away, so I had to cross the road twice and ask someone for Central). Finally there, Ice tells me on the phone that he will arrive in 20 minutes (all phone calls in Thai in poor connection quality, difficult to understand, and to three different numbers for reasons I don't know). 20 minutes later another call: meet in 20 minutes. I could not make this up! Then finally, 2 hours after I left my place, he arrives. We chat and go to his place and proceed to horizontal activities. He asks for 800 Baht for rent/electricity which I give him. I take taxi back home.

Verdict: worth pursuing, but with less money and meeting on time and at a place of my choice.

The whole approach was wrong: instead of going to his place, I should offer to pay his taxi fare and wait for him at my place (the cost will be the same, but I can do something at home while waiting for him).

Most visits to Saranrom park are without incidents, but I got into a few unpleasant situations that I report here as a warning to others.

It has occurred twice that boys tried to put their hands into my pocket to steal from me. In both cases, the boys were about 10-15 years old (what are they doing in that area, in a group with other older boys? Your guess is as good as mine). The first hugged me, I did not not prevent him from doing so to see where it leads, and then his hands moved to my pockets. The second boy asked to hug me, I declined, yet he got close enough to get his hand near my pocket. Both attempts were very obvious. Either it was meant in jest (I fail to see the humor) or they are just beginners. While I can fend off one boy easily, if there were two of them it would pose a problem. I have important stuff in three different pockets (wallet, key, mobile phone), but only two hands.

A similar approach is used by the Gypsy gangs in Paris. I came across them many times, but know their mode of operation only from internet. A pretendedly deaf child asks you for a donation and to sign a petition (they always used a makeshift support for the document, usually a cardboard ripped off a box). If you sign, several children will suddenly appear and hug you, thereby stealing your wallet. At least thatтАЩs what the internet says. I have no idea why the French police lets them operate (there are other scams as well).

Yesterday (29.05.2013, about 10pm) there was a group of boys, one of them asked me for 20 Baht. He was the cutest from the group (but still not meeting my standards), so I gave him 20 Baht. One of the other boys tried to grab my wallet, and all others asked for 20 Baht, too. Lesson learned: when handing out money, not to one in a group, only to one who is separate. So I donтАЩt have to justify why I give money to him and not to the others. It does not happen often that I give money away for nothing, but it occurs.

After dinner, I had another stroll in the area, now it was past 1am and there were still boys around (I have never been that late). One boy asks for money and follows me. I think he was drunk or drugged. I think I lost him and chat with a group of boys. The group dissipates, the boy is there again following me, I try to keep a few meters between us, but suddenly he jumps onto my back and puts his arm around my neck. Both of us go to ground, I manage to roll off in a way that allows me to get his arm off my neck and get back on my feet, all in one movement. I have never been in such a situation before, but I managed to calculate all the necessary movements during our fall. Amazing intellectual achievement! If you donтАЩt use the kinetic energy of the fall (in this case to get on my feet again) it gets converted into bruises, and then both of us would be lying on the ground, his arm around my neck. It was so quick and so natural, I did get only little Adrenaline rush and raised heartbeat.

I shout at him тАЬNoтАЭ, тАЬLeave me aloneтАЭ or something to that effect in English and Thai, but he continues following me. Hundred meters further, he gets close enough to kick me into the stomach with his foot. It was at the end of the range of his leg, so no harm was done. But it was so quick, I didnтАЩt see it coming. I continue walking as if nothing has happened.

I am a non-confrontational person, so if I had the choice I would rather run away than get into a fight. But with flip-flops I canтАЩt run at full speed, so itтАЩs better just to walk quickly and keep a distance. I think I could fight off a Thai boy, but would avoid a fight at all cost. I wear a pair of glasses and a bag, both are a disadvantage in such a situation. He might bite me or use a knife. I donтАЩt know if my bigger size and weight (compared to average Thai) can compensate his experience.

In case you wonder why I donтАЩt just give him the 20 Baht he is asking for: that would be rewarding bad behavior. Furthermore, when I take out my wallet I need one hand to hold the wallet and one to take out the note, so I would have no hand to defend myself. And he would probably ask for more.

The distance between us gets bigger, the events so far did not deter me from looking for cute boys. But then I see him holding an object in his hand, probably for use as a weapon. ThatтАЩs it for the day, I hail the next taxi and get in. I see two other boys subduing him. I donтАЩt know where they come from and how they could assess the situation correctly. In the taxi, we were first driving towards him, so he could have assaulted the taxi or jumped in front of it.

Still, I consider Saranrom Park a safe place for cruising and will be back soon.

I observed a few acts of violence in Soi Twilight, but none of them was directed at customers. One or two years ago, I was sitting at MaxisтАЩ and two massage boys got into fight, but were immediately separated by other staff from bars. On Songkran this year, there was a drunken boy who smashed the bottom of a beer bottle to use the rest of the bottle, hold on the neck, as a weapon. Others talked to him and separated him from his adversary.

Linguistic question for native speakers (except Timmberty): тАЬto smash the bottom of/off a bottleтАЭ both versions (of/off) are grammatically correct and the difference in meaning is insignificant? тАЬSmash the bottom off a bottleтАЭ emphasizes the fact that the smashed bottom and the rest of the bottle are now separated (spatial), whereas тАЬsmash the bottom of a bottleтАЭ just states that the bottom is broken (and the rest of the bottle as well) but contains no information about their position relative to each other? In German it would be тАЬden Boden einer Flasche zerschlagen/abschlagenтАЭ. In French it would be тАЬcasser/d├йcapiter le fond dтАЩune bouteilleтАЭ?

Another note from that night in Saranrom: In the group of boys I talked with (between just being followed and being assaulted by the other boy) there was one cute boy, who was not available! I think it was the same one as a few months ago, he is just hanging out there with his friends. One of the available boys asked me whom I like, so I pointed out the cute boy, someone said something about 1000 Baht, I countered with 500, but the cute boy didnтАЩt react on this offer. Later 3000 was mentioned. Ridiculous! He just is not interested. A typical ChristianPFC situation: out of 50 boys I came across this night on two hours walking the area, the only one whom I would like to have sex with is not available. We exchanged a few sentences. Next time I will point out that I just want to look at and touch his body (followed by masturbation) and donтАЩt want to fuck him (because many boys there are straight and donтАЩt bottom). But I wonтАЩt offer more than 500, I donтАЩt want to spoil prices. He didnтАЩt allow me to take a picture of him (for reference, and I liked his T-shirt as well).

I just noticed I forgot to post an update on the boy "Ice" (which took place before the post above, so swap the two posts in your mind to get into chronological order):

I have been to Saranrom park once more, that makes five trips with a boy each time! In gogo bars, on average I go to five of them before I off one boy.

I met Ice another time on Saturday 11.05.2013. He called just at the right moment, I had planned to go to Chatuchak Market and was free to meet him there. I agreed on the phone to give him 500 Baht (for whatever reason). He was there on time (3pm), however on the wrong place (clock tower in Chatuchak Park, not the one in Chatuchak Market where I was waiting for him, actually I had him wait for me at the tower). No problem, 10 minutes later he was there and this could have happened to me as well (confusing the two clock towers). Then I continued shopping at the market (I was looking for trousers and shirts, but didnтАЩt find any to my taste). I bought him two books with Thai ghost stories. We had dinner at the market and took bus to my place.

So far, everything went fine. But once in my room, it declined. Before I could offer him a drink, he had already opened the fridge door and taken the bottle of coke I keep in store for guests. On further occasions, he rummaged through my food. I share what I have in my fridge, but please wait until I offer it! I donтАЩt like this sense of entitlement. Know your place!

He spilled crumbles from potato chips/crisps and sala fruit peel in my room, without any attempt to clean up.

I went out for about 10 minutes and left him alone. On my return, there was liquid in my bathroom, on the sill from bathroom to balcony and on the balcony. The liquid was his urine. He couldnтАЩt find the light switch for the bathroom and peed from the door into the bathroom, with poor aiming. So we cleaned it up and he cracked the spray hose, so now I have a maintenance problem (it leaked up to 100 liter per day, currently it doesnтАЩt leak).

We went to bed and he had a lot of fun by making me read out aloud from the books I bought for him. Suddenly, he lay down to sleep. I continued reading and went to sleep at 10pm (earliest in a long time), no sex.

Next morning I woke up with an erection. ThatтАЩs why I had him stay overnight! However, he was still sleeping and there was an unpleasant smell, which was probably Ice. He hadnтАЩt showered the evening before, despite strong sweating at the market. So we got up and had lunch around 8am (again earliest in a long time) and got back to my room and I asked him to shower. He had a shit in my bathroom that I could smell in my living room. Later I discovered that he probably squatted on my toilet (at least he put up the toilet seat) and there were splashes of poo in my toilet. Due to the smell, no sex.

I thought I could at least use him to study Thai. But making him read aloud from books showed that he is semi-illiterate, he reads words that are not there and omits syllables! That explains the communication problems we often had. Examples are omitting the unwritten a in р╕бр╕▒р╕Шр╕вр╕б (he read р╕бр╕▒р╕Ш-р╕вр╕б) and (I forgot the other word), not recognizing the composed vowel in р╕зр╕▒р╕Фр╣Ар╕кр╕бр╕ р╕вр╕Щр╕Щр╕▓р╕гр╕╡ (he read р╣Ар╕к-р╕бр╕╡-р╕Щр╕▓-р╕гр╕╡ instead) and reading р╕гр╕░р╕Жр╕▒р╕З as р╕гр╕░р╕бр╕▒р╕З, i.e. confusing р╕б and р╕Ж! ThatтАЩs a level that is comparable to mine after one year of studying Thai. At least it shows that reading Thai is possible by just visually recognizing the word, without forming the sound. And a surprise that someone of low literacy likes reading.

I gave him 500 Baht and said goodbye. Now the chapter тАЬIceтАЭ is closed, but I will be back to Saranrom park many more times!

So there we go from threesome to foursome to me meeting him at his place for a twosome to having him coming to my place with no sex and I will never invite him again. Just too many character traits that I donтАЩt like: making a mess in my room and bathroom, treating my fridge as if it was his, not showering, not helpful with Thai language.

Thanks for the update Christian.

As for the linguistic question: I prefer the verb "to break" rather than "to smash", because we would describe it as a "broken beer bottle" and say "he broke off the bottom of a beer bottle." I think "smash" suggests much more damage. such as "he smashed the beer bottle against the wall" (now unusable as a weapon.)IMO :glasses7:

Christian, I am genuinely concerned that we will end up reading a newspaper report about your body being found.

You are taking far too many risks IMHO. I have done lots of ill-advised things in my life but you are getting yourself into what appear to be some seriously dodgy situations - wandering about parks alone at 1am with boys jumping on you and kicking you in the stomach isn't really the best move.

Please get a grip before we have to open an Obituary thread!!

What a disturbing report Christianpfc. I share Scottish-GuyтАЩs concern for your wellbeing.

Cruising areas, the world over, I believe come with the AYOR (at your own risk) warning. In my younger days I was quite a regular on Hampstead Heath, Clapham Common and Russell Square, some of LondonтАЩs most well known gay cruising areas. But in each place you always had to be alert to the possibility of being robbed or mugged or worse! A friend of mine, when out on Clapham Common, was attacked by two guys, one of whom was carrying a butcherтАЩs knife. They succeeded in cutting a part of his ear off. He was very lucky that he was able to run and escape further attack.

If you really insist on returning to the park, I think the very least you should do is get rid of the flip flops and invest in a good pair of running shoes that would allow you a quick getaway should you encounter any more dodgy characters. Remember, we have some further adventures to go on when I return and I certainly would like you to be in one piece when we next meet! : )

good advice jellybean.. also why on earth would you even be carrying a wallet and valuables when walking around a park late at night .. just take what you might need,1000 baht and some loose change. even if you do get robbed it aint gonna matter ...

Wise words from Scottish and Jellybean... To be honest I was worried about Christian when he started posting about hooking up or hanging out with Lao moneyboys while they were taking drugs in Laos. The guy clearly has no lines or boundaries drawn in his head. I don't know whether he's indifferent, happy to take these risks or just not street wise.

I know you're exploring and pushing boundaries, Christian... But remember, some fuck ups can't be undone.

I remember reading about this 25-year old German guy who was found dead, murdered in his Bangkok room by what was apparently a sex partner or acquaintance.

To be honest I was worried about Christian when he started posting about hooking up or hanging out with Lao moneyboys while they were taking drugs in Laos.

You slightly misunderstood this (Trip report Laos February 2011). My friend was not a moneyboy, but he organised a moneyboy in Vientiane for a threesome. Then, back in his house (with his car), they started smoking (ice?, I couldn't smell anything, so no tobacco or marihuana). I don't hook up with drug users avoid contact with people who seem under influence of substances.

Newer developments at Saranrom Park

After the attack I have been back twice, without taking a boy. On the night of the attack, I felt a bit hungry and popped into City Walk (a gay restaurant/bar/karaoke on Atsadang road) and had dinner there. One waiter (the cutest one) was very attentive, which was the reason why I stayed until closing time (1am), to have a chat with him after work. I asked him (twice, separated by some small talk) what he does after work тАЬI go home sleepтАЭ. He says he is not gay, but man, but that simply means he is top, not straight. I prefer to have sex on first meeting, but can wait, and I know where he works, so I promised to come back. (Then, after the bar closed, I went on another tour around the park, where I encountered the non-available very cute boy and finally was attacked.)

The cute waiter looks like a friend in England who is originally from Uzbekistan (of all places!). Quiz: What do Uzbekistan and Liechtenstein have in common? Another Quiz: What do the USA, Liberia and Burma/Birma/Myanmar have in common?

Two weeks later (I had to let the disturbance from the attack settle), I was back looking for boys. A boy I had twice, but who turned out to be a dud in bed, was there and showed me a machete of about 30 cm lengths he was carrying. He then asked me for money and threatened me in jest with this machete, however I donтАЩt find this funny and I donтАЩt want any weapons in my room (or short time hotel room). The very cute boy who is not available was on his regular spot, and before he drove away on his mocy he picked up a knife about 20 cm that was hidden in the bushes (and stuck it in his trousers without sheath). That knife was not for cutting vegetables! The first time I witnessed knives at Saranrom. (That fits what I saw on the video about Saronrom on youtube (thanks to latintopxxx who brought it to my attention on SGT):

[youtube:3l7iooxc]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKVg-s_bg_A[/youtube:3l7iooxc]

(remark: The numbers in the video seem grossly inflated. I did not see any activity near the bridge near the fort when I drove past in a taxi.)

No boy to my taste, I have dinner at City Walk. The cute waiter is there again, very attentive, he goes over the line of duty to make me feel comfortable. I hope next time we can exchange phone numbers. From his working times, I conclude the only time we can meet (out of work) is on a weekend afternoon. There is even a place I want to go for sightseeing close to where he lives (Ladprao).

Another two weeks later (my second trip after the attack), again no boy to my taste but the boy whom I had twice asks for money and threatens me in jest with a knife (about 10 cm blade), this is no basis for further business! I have dinner in City Walk, my favorite waiter is not in that day. Two other waiters chat with me, one asks where I live and after I write down my address in Thai he reveals that he is Vietnamese and canтАЩt read Thai! Both finally start begging for a tip, but sorry, I donтАЩt like such behavior so I leave without tip.

Same location, but now in daytime and different boy:

Begin of July, on a weekend, I was in the area during day so I had a walk in Saranrom park (at night itтАЩs closed an all activity is outside around the park). There is an open air fitness area with some shirtless boys were working out, so I had a look. One was cute and at smiled at me, so I sat down on a bench (with table) and did some reading (to wait for him to finish working out or passing). Every time our views met, we would smile at each other. Then finally he walked past me, so I said hello and a conversation ensued, with exchange of phone numbers and intent of meeting again.

A week later, on a weekday, we meet at Wongwian Yai BTS station (close to his place) at night (8:30). He is not out to his family, still lives with his family (he is 26) and he had to hide the fact that he went out to meet me from his family. I was looking forward to meet the 22 (!) cats they have in their house. Actually, that was a bigger incentive for this meeting than the prospect of having sex. We went to have dinner together (noodle soup). He does not mind long walking and wanted to pay his own meal, I had to insist on paying for both of us. We then separated and I went to Super A (see separate topic about the boy I met there).

End of July, he called again. I was in Germany, so I did not pick up (donтАЩt know what rooming rates they charge me and him), but sent a message. Yesterday (07.08.2013), he called again, I missed the call. I will call back soon. I wonder how to proceed. Any suggestions? I am more into twinks, not so much into hunks. I donтАЩt remember ever having good sex with someone with a BMI over 20 (body mass index, (mass in kg)/ ((hight in meter)^2)).

This the first time I met a gay man by chance outside gay areas or internet. If I wanted to, we surely would find a place and time to have sex, so this is formally my first hook-up out of gay areas or internet.

Jump to August and back to night time.

01.08.2013 Slow business (due to rain?), but I find a boy.

08.08.2013 Brisk business. The peak seems to be 10 pm to midnight. There were several cars with dark windows, standing for longer than it takes to negotiate a deal, I wonder what was going on in there. Blowjobs? There were two boys I could have taken, but I was a bit hungry so I went to City Walk for dinner (more precisely, I had only a small dinner at home in order to go to City Walk for full dinner in order to meet the cute waiter again). My favorite waiter was not there (again), so I inquired: he left and now works in Ratchada. I left my phone number with another waiter to forward it. Now the Vietnamese boy is on top of my list, he often smiled at me, this time I tipped him 20 Baht to pave the way for further interaction. This dinner is one of the few cases where I overfed, and the two boys I could have taken are gone on my round after dinner, so I go home.

This is a nice way to spend a night: I take bus or taxi to Sanam Luang, then stroll along the night market (open from (donтАЩt know) to at least 1 am), great for people watching. Then around Saranrom looking for boys, and at the same time some culture (palace and Wat Pho from outside for free), if I find a boy go to short time hotel, if not have dinner and/or stroll the market again. So much entertainment for so little money!

Thank you for the update Christian. I truly enjoy your sense of humor in your posts.

Your story and details reinforce my reasons for not engaging in AYOR situations. Perhaps some people enjoy the danger aspect. I do not as I could not relax with the person. But it is interesting reading of what others do. (You must have excellent vision to see someone take a knife from the bushes at night in a dark park or do you use night vision binoculars?)
binoculars.jpg[/attachment:3ocv78ot]

It seems to be a large investment of time with minimal payback unless you enjoy "the hunt" more than the actual successful connection. But it does supply a lot of interesting writing material, so THANKS for these stories. Obviously you enjoy the adventure as much as (or more than) the end result which I admire. I prefer being able to pick a guy out at the bar under good lighting conditions and see what I am getting, have an opportunity to talk with him to understand his abilities a bit, and have a reasonable assurance that he will not hack me with a knife or machete.

Have you considered doing some volunteer activities while in BKK? You apparently have good language skills and it might be an opportunity to connect more directly with local people. As I tally your score rate during this set of adventures, I did not score any goals. That is ok if you enjoy the prowl, but personally I would focus my target a bit more and concentrate on situations with better odds. Even if the guy has 22 cats, I would stay away from the pussy and get to know the hunk better.

pussycat.jpg[/attachment:3ocv78ot] thai hunk.jpg[/attachment:3ocv78ot]
Your adventures make for very interesting reading and I appreciate the added tidbits of information that I can learn from. I have always enjoyed outdoor fitness areas so glad to know there is one at Saran Rom Park.

Cheers and good luck!

Hi Christian,

A fascinating update as usual.

As regards your quiz, well the Uzbekistan/Liechtenstein one is pretty easy, they are both landlocked countries which are surrounded by landlocked countries (perhaps the only two states in the World in that situation?)

easy Ronan .. they are the only 3 countries in the world that don't use the metric system of measurement ..

You must have excellent vision to see someone take a knife from the bushes at night in a dark park or do you use night vision binoculars?

I prefer being able to pick a guy out at the bar under good lighting conditions and see what I am getting, have an opportunity to talk with him to understand his abilities a bit, and have a reasonable assurance that he will not hack me with a knife or machete.

There is street lighting in the area, actually the light is better than in most gogo bars and I can talk with him without mamasam interfering and without having to shout due to loud music and I don't have to buy him a drink or tip!

The boys there know their place (no spoiled brats and arrogant bitches like in Soi Twilight).

At the begin of the year, I had a stream of luck with five boys on five visits. Now we are averaging one boy every two visits. If you consider that going there by taxi is 24km and returning is 21km and I do a lot of walking around and only every second visit ends in a short time hotel room, I travel 100 km (90 by taxi and 10 on foot) for having sex one time.

I would like to get sex easier and closer to my place. It's not so much that I enjoy the hunt, it just is that difficult and takes that long to find a boy who is to my standards and available.

"Have you considered doing some volunteer activities while in BKK? You apparently have good language skills and it might be an opportunity to connect more directly with local people."

Not yet, but I need something to bring regularity in my life after work on weekdays. Being spoilt for choice, I sometimes cannot decide what to do and end up at home, in front of my computer, reading the gay Thailand forums! And there is this indecisiveness: I could meet a friend tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, or on the third day, or wait because something better comes along (it doesn't I end up in front of my computer).

Congratulations to Ronan and timmberty, you solved my quiz!

Christian...........You say you like thin twink types but in the Gay Romeo thread, you stated that Thana Romeo was over-weight. He is very thin, not an ounce of fat on him. And you were definitley with him as he keeps calling custmers back to hook up again. Either you forgot what he looked like or you are into skin and bones. What's the story?

christianpfc
August 13th, 2013, 20:51
He was not over-weight, but below my standards.

His profile says: thana_romeo 2.Aug.2013 20, 162 cm, 61 kg

OMG! 162cm, 61kg! 162cm and 42kg would be fine, or 181cm and 61kg.

Too fat by my standards and the date did not go at the pace I wanted. He called me from his mocy opposite Tuk-com instead of coming to meet me in Tuk-com. He had his safety helmet still on, so I could not see his face (his pictures on gayromeo at that time were poor quality, so are the current). He then asked me where I stay and we drove back on his motorcycle. I didn't find an occasion to end this before full tip would be required.

That was a poor start (I think he was late as well, not the correct place, safety helmet on) and it did not get better.

Yeah, I was disappointed when I first met him. He had older pictures and is not very good looking. What do you mean about the pace of your date? Was he in a hurry?

I spent a lot of time with him after I had short times in the early evening. I enjoyed his lively personality. He really isn't my type either. He also told me he was playing me,lol. Then cried a lot. They could use him in hollywood. His new pics on GR are very dark and you can barely see him. I guess he realises he is not a hottie. There is something about him that I like though. He is only boi I sent money to this year as he promised it was a one time request only for some shoes.

christianpfc
August 15th, 2013, 13:47
Not in a hurry. I like to observe my dates first, e.g. by having a meal or ice cream together, strolling around. That was not possible, as he was waiting for me on his motorcycle with his safety helmet on.

And just not my type.

Apart from the repeated phone calls no complaints.

My first visit to the area was in January this year. Amazed at the number of boys there. Every round, you will bound to see a new face there.

I was with a friend, so felt safer. We did talk to some of them, who looked in their mid teens. Offered them cigarettes (I dont smoke, my friend does. I only smoke something else LOL) and asked them what are their roles. Apparently only top!

Saw another a group of guys also this time along the pavement facing the walls of the grand palace. A taxi stopped by and I saw a few trannies in it. Spoke to one of the boy who also looks young, maybe 17-19 and he hopped into the cab.

Amazing place. lol

Saranrom 28.08.2013

HavenтАЩt been to Saranrom for a while. Even if I donтАЩt find a boy, the market east of Sanam Luang is very interesting.

No rain at night, end of the month, so I expected many boys. There were only about 30, and I didnтАЩt see many customers. Slow business this night (contrary to other nights).

I spent about 22:30 to 00:30 around Saranrom (interrupted by taking a boy to the short time hotel). I saw him there before. I had to ask if he wants to go with me (most boys ask me if they can go with me). That might be a bad sign, but whom else is he waiting for there? A 20 year old beautiful Thai girl?

I ask тАЬHow much?тАЭ тАУ тАЬ500 BahtтАЭ. People might disagree that this is a fair price, but if you disagree that this is the going rate, then I invite you to join me and prove me wrong. We walked to the hotel, about 10 minutes, he was not very talkative. So far, I only thought that if a boy doesnтАЩt want to walk (he asked if we can go by taxi), this shines a bad light on him; but now it occurred to me that the opposite might be true as well.

After showering, I didnтАЩt switch off the TV (he was watching, waiting while I was showering), a big mistake! He was watching TV during all our interaction, I asked to switch it off, he replied something that I interpreted as тАЬI just want to watch this to the endтАЭ. Catch-22: if I switch off the TV, he will not be happy, if I leave it on, it will attract all his attention. I left it on. Sex was so-so, will look for another boy next time. I think they have pegged me down as easy to please and softy/wimp (canтАЩt even tell a prostitute to switch off the TV during sex!).

After that, I had another round and saw two more cute boys. Got their phone numbers, previous visits have shown that cute boys I see might not be back on my next trip (or any other following trips). The boy whom I had twice (despite him being a dud in bed) was there as well, I told him that I donтАЩt like him playing with a knife in my presence (to put it mildly, last time he pointed the knife at me in jest and asked for money). I hope he made the connection between me giving him 20 Baht he had asked for and not playing with his knife (on our two last encounters I didnтАЩt give him money because he was playing with his knife). I should have told him as well that I like his T-shirt.

Wow, this is interesting! I'm planning to stay around Khao san in my next visit. I might just roam around Saranrom to see the guys there. Although, I'm sure they're more interested with guys who can speak Thai, right?

There are boys who speak English, some even good English. Often boys are in a group, so there will be someone who can translate if necessary. The normal modus of operation is to go to a short time hotel in the area (up to 2 km away), they boys know them and the TV has porn. Ask for tissue, there is none provided.

There is a wide range of types available, here a small extract:

straight boy, twink, doesn't put any effort in it, will not take him again
straight boy, twink, puts some effort in it, wonderful brown skin, big dick, have taken him three times already
straight boy, twink, puts some effort in it, good manners, will see him again or even have him come to my room
gay boy, slightly muscular, good English, can hold a conversation, boyfriend material for someone else
gay boy, twinky total bottom, now my regular (Every week, stays over night, in fact he is now sleeping in my room while I am at work. I will go back during lunchbreak and wake him up.)

(Maybe I should start pimping those boys out or offer guided tours?)

Don't miss the night market Talad Klong Lot. Very interesting and a lot of eye candy.

I am really looking forward to your guided tour of Saran Rom park and to get to know you.... :)

and if the market-of the goods -also many 2nd hand shoes, shirts, jeans etc. nor the boys entice you, here is now the added delight of a real Thai MOB (thats Thai for demonstation) along Ratchdamnern. against the govmt. Free food a plenty. However, all buses rerouted or stuck in heavy traffic jams.
AND; this week also the fanous Loy Kratong Wat Sraket fair with the wet T-shirt balls throwing.

I agree with you. One day/night this will go horribly wrong.
I used to be sceptical of the o p's reports but now I'm convinced that this scene exists 'cos his reports are detailed and consistant in their detail.
When things calm down in Bangkok I'm going to have a go but with a thai gay friend-I don't mind paying two boys (one for him, one for me or maybe even a hamburger) because safety comes first.

Aber das hatte ich doch schon irgendwo gemacht.
Its a temple fair-around since >100 yrs. Old-style funfair (Kirmes, Jahrmark). 1 special attraction is stalls with attractive ladies wearing T-shirts, sitting on a bench over a vat of water. You pay for balls to throw old cans and if you hit enough cans you do not get the giant fur-bear or pussy, but the girls falls off the bench into the water-and arises quite wet. This has been made specific for western feminists to enrage them......................... Sorry, no boys (as of yet) with tight shorts.
Und du kommst dort doch oft vorbei-steig mal ausm 59er bus @ Lan Luang.
Started last sunday with a beautiful early morning parade and lasts 1 week after Loy Kratong.
BTW-Saran rom Park-this morning they were setting up all kind of tents and stalls- I guess also for LK, in the open air grassy area beside the park itself.

Went there yesterday (Sunday 17.11.2013) night (about 7-10pm). Due to Ratchadamoen blocked for demonstration and plenty of people there, it took me over an hour to get from Sanam Luang to Wat Saket. Closer to Wat Saket, pedestrian traffic was down to 1 meter per minute and there was complete stop as well (body contact and pushing on all sides, but not with cute Thai boys). I made it into the temple area and made one round on ground level, didn't climb up. On ground level, I didn't notice what you (pong) described.

After Wat Saket, made it to Saranrom and despite limited activities (boy-wise; there were plenty of people celebration Loy Kratong), I found a boy to my taste. When I was done with him, I noticed most taxis occupied, and those who were not occupied refused to take me. Anyway, there was slow traffic, so I made a night walk (about 1 hour from midnight to 1am) to Hua Lampong where I got bus 29.

From my vast experience in Soi Twilight boys, Pattaya boys and Saranrom boys I can generalise: there is not much difference in service they provide, the rate of duds I get is similar. The difference is only in setting and price.

few days ago: due to the demo's the street where most of the boys stand is closed off with barbed wire-there is the Ministry of the Interior other side, goal for occupation.
The boys now gather where all the citybuses have their termini-about 20/25 huddled together near a drinks stall.

And that rate would be what? 1 non-dud out of 10 duds? 2? 3? 5? 8?
With your history I can't believe you wouldn't know that. Written down and listed by location, time, date, description, duddism, etc etc in a small notepad, surely.

Pong, thank you for your update. I was wondering where the boys go now. Can you be a bit more specific? There is end/start of line 25 and 503 west of the palace. I don't know of citybuses (vans? minibuses?) that are in the area.

Smiles, I will address this question in a separate post (don't worry, it won't be as long as "what's your type?").

December 8th, 2013, 14:24
503 ends with 59 north end of Sanam Luang. 25 at the riverside, with 508+many more.
Its daft simple: its the other side of the Klong Lowt canal along the road where they always stand. so 8 mtrs closer to the park. Citybuses like 64, 2, 33 end there. There are mostly also homeless people sleeping/staying in the covered waiting places. I know some boys also stand along south end of Saranrom and west-opposite Wat Po, but have not been there. Just a little further on are now metroworks, these may also have moved of closed traffic. There is some other ministry along there-now also fenced off with barbed wires.

I went on Saturday night, after having a look in the afternoon. Atsadaeng road is blocked in front of the ministry, no boys there. Everywhere else business as usual, a bit weaker than usual. Nonetheless, I found one.

I was hoping for a concentration on one place (as pong indicated), but no, stretched out as usual. Driving around in a taxi is not my style, and walking it takes about 30 minutes for one round.

I'm just wondering, for a guy who's new to the place and wanting to check the scene, would you recommend walking or taking a taxi? I'm sure some would say it is dangerous to walk alone at night, but I always find it more interesting to walk and check things out.

I would find it boring to have the taxi stop, open the window and let boys come to the window for closer inspection and negotiation.

Visits in Jan, Feb, Mar, (not in April - Germany), May (about one each month) did not look promising (low number of boys, 20 or less), but a trip in June looked promising (30 boys between 10 and 10 pm, and numbers increasing). Details on my blog (label: saranrom). Now everything seems back to normal (after slow business due to protest camp, then curfew).
