View Full Version : My HIV Positive BF

November 5th, 2005, 03:54
Some time ago I wrote about my Thai boyfriend who had discovered he was HIV Positive when he developed Tuberculosis. He was taken to hospital in Bangkok and went rapidly down hill and I was warned that he wouldn't survive. But he pulled through and then when he was still very week he got Meningitis and again nearly died.

He's home now being looked after by relatives. I just spent a week with him and his bravery is amazing. He's still very ill and gets exhausted very quickly but he's a real fighter and if anyone can make it he can.

I was very impressed with the care he received at the hospital and the continuing care he's getting on his visits every two weeks. He's on at least nine different drugs and I was very pleased to see how carefully he takes them.

Hopefully the Tuberculosis will be cured in time (he's on the drugs for nine months) and he is putting on weight at last so it's more encouraging now than it was.

I'll be back in two months to check up on him.

Khun Jon

Its great you are standing by his side Jon.The relatives are certainly good too.I take it you are HIV NEG?

Its a tragic disease ,which can be avoided, unlike another tragic disease called cancer.

Well done Jon for telling us all I wish you both a long and happy life. The moral in the tale for others, which I would like to spread, is maybe regular testing of both parties might help to spot infection at an early stage so it can be treated well before problems occure. A good way round this to make it acceptable for your Thai friends is to buy a health check up package and include HIV testing all very cheap at most Hospitals.

Thanks for the replies, yes I am HIV Negative which does reinforce the message about being careful as I've known my boyfriend for the last six years.

His relatives all know and are standing by him which was very good to see but others have not been as kind and he has suffered from prejudice in his village.

Now he has put on weight he will go out but when he was so thin he wouldn't let anyone see him.

Have fun, but please, stay safe.

Jon, my genuine sympathy - I know the position only too well, as stated in my posting on Veraids a few months ago. It is great that you are supporting him, emotionally as well as financially - real support, without the need for any thanks or possibility of any reward, is rare indeed.

The recent posting on free HIV testing and treatment in Bangkok may well be of interest to your friend, and hopefully its availability may spread to Pattaya as well.

TB can take a long time to clear, but above all never give up and never let your friend give up either.

Good luck

Actually if you read my second post I was confirming that I'm Negative not Positive so I have only been dealing with my boyfriends Positive status. Getting tested after I knew his result though was not a pleasant experience although I only had to wait about two hours it seemed like an eternity.

It's changed my whole outlook when I visit the Go Go Bars etc but it won't put me off Thailand which I love.

I posted as Kun Jon (not Khun Jon) but had to rejoin as my password wouldn't work. The rest of your post doesn't deserve an answer.

I'll not post again to this forum as the level of discussion as typified by your poisonous and ignorant piece is just not worth it.

Your attack on me is sickening and beneath contempt. I don't want to have anything to do with a Message Board where filth like you post.

Without sounding to sarcastic I am confused how you have two handles along with password problems. ( Khun Jon not Kun Jon.) and could write about your boyfrind on 18th March this year being diagnosed with Gastric Ulcers!!

I asume this extra problem was in addition to all his other ailments described above in this thread under the current handle .

Maybe you should answer The princess her questions so someone on the site may be able to give you greater knowledge on the subject.

Khun Jon,

I'm so terribly sorry about your condition. I hope you don't have to suffer long. Have faith.

At the beginning of the year my boyfriend was somewhere in Thailand at the time of the Tsunami. I knew he had relatives in Phuket but I didn't know where he was. I eventually got a text message that he was in hospital. I assumed that meant in Phuket but it eventually turned out that he was in Bangkok and it had nothing to do with the Tsunami.

It was the first in a series of illnesses that included the Gastric Ulcer that made little sense. He also had recurrent high fevers and was being treated for malaria. It was some time later that the Tuberculosis prompted a HIV test and the discovery that he was HIV+.

I posted at the time I discovered he was HIV+ under the name Kun Jon and then didn't post again for a long time. When I attempted to reactivate the name nothing I could do would allow me to post again as Kun Jon so I rejoined under a new name.

I've no idea why you find that difficult to understand.

I've no intention of discussing how much I pay to fund my boyfriend's treatment.

If anyone is interested some of the drugs he takes are:

Lamivudine

Stavudine

Efavirenz

And for the meningitis

Fluconozole

That's all I'm going to post on the matter so it's farewell for good this time. Having my honesty doubted when I posted in good faith about a subject that has caused me a lot of worry just isn't worth the effort.

Keep posting amongst yourselves and I wish this unpleasant little clique good-bye.

Jon

PS I thank those who posted a more sympathetic response.

I assume that the fact that Princess Lea has now withdrawn her (his, its?) post that is as near as I'm going to get to an apology for the totally false accusation against me. As I said a nasty little clique without the decency to own up to their own errors.

Jon,

Don't let the trolls upset you. (Where's Pa Binia when you need her - probably getting another haircut.) I'll be praying for you and your bf.

Khun Jon,

You and your boyfreind have my sincerest sympathies and best wishes. Thank you for your openness.

Regarding your Kun Jon handle, It was somehow deleted. I have no idea how, I think you may have done that accidentally yourself at some point. All your Kun Jon posts are still on the board, but the membership was deleted. That was, btw, a local user account, meaning that you were only registered to use Sawatdee Forum, and would have had to sign-in to ezboard as "kunjohn@sawatdeeforum". Your current "Khon John" handle is a global user, meaning you can use it to post on any ezboard, and that you sign-in simply as "khunjohn".

I can't believe that people (who just registered the handles they are using on this thread) are criticizing Khun John for some board technicality like that. What hypocrites! How unsympateitic. How petty can you get?<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/embarassed.gif ALT=":o"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/frown.gif ALT=":("> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/eyes.gif ALT=":rolleyes">

Grand Poohbah, I share your disappointment. Some people just don't know when to stop. Khun Jon, again, my sympathies. As you may know, I volunteer at a hospice for the terminally ill in Chiang Rai. Send me a PM should you ever need my help.

Sorry you had to endure the trolls but in the future if you remain on board , just use the ignore button and no more badbillies, vbbb, mssyndy and a couple of others will ever bother you again...

January 24th, 2006, 15:14
Hi Khun Jon , I join with the rest and say don't let a few stop you posting. As you know from my posts I'm also HIV+ and went down to a CD4 of 17 with a viral load of 780,000 and had developed AIDS related pneumonia.
My drug reg is:
Lamivudine 150 mg
Zidovudine 300 mg .... Combined in one tablet (Combivir) taken 2 times a day.
Efavirenz 600mg (Sustiva) once a day.
After a year my CD4 is now above 280 and viral load undetectable. I am fit and well and suffer no side effects.
Keep the faith and your boyfriend should do OK. The bottom line is new drugs are being tested all of the time so something new and more effective could be just around the corner.
Again, you are a gem for standing by your guy and I wish him the best of luck.
I along with some of the main posts here would like an occasional update on how your b/friend is doing, and again if I can be of any help email me.

This is a gentle and sad string. My respect and sincere good wishes. I am working from afar to support an Orphanage in South Africa. There are over 100 kids there. Almost every one is positive and each and every one was gang raped. The youngest thus savaged was about 9 months. One small boy's rectum has to be pushed back each time he uses the toilet. I am hoping that surgery will soon correct this. It matters not that the victim is a boy or a girl. They key is they are 'virgin'. By having sex with a virgin one is cured or protected from AIDS... such is the belief. The inane President actually publicly stated that AIDS was not connected with either HIV or sex. He has shifted his position. Take a look at the following site and weep your eyes. http://wwwbotshabelokids.co.uk
