Reports of gay bars in the hinterlands (i.e. beyond Shitsville, Jomtien, BKK, Patong, parts of CM) is not an often-seen affair on the various boards, so here's a short plug for a good one . . . in fact, arguably the best bar in Hua Hin right now.
Is that saying a lot? Not really, there are only 3 others: (Buddy Bar, Grasshopper, Red Indian. Rainbow Bar is now gay only part time, which doesn't really count).

So here's presenting 'Chico Bar'.
Last year this place had the unfortunate name of 'SM Bar' and the un-locals went there dressed up as Nazis and Hell's Angels with whips and dildos dangling from their chains and yadayadayada ... you know that horrendous subset I'm sure. Unfortunately (for them), there was no S&M in SM and despite a rather raucous New Years Party last year, SM remained rather lackluster most of the time: lacking raucousness shall we say.

But new owners have spruced up the place. Painted a very pleasing shade of brown with goldy accents and lit up with muted orangey lights, Chico is quite welcoming. Lots of Thai boys hanging around, playing video games on mobiles, sometimes serving you (sometimes reluctantly: read 'mobile games'). We've been there three times now, two of which there were quite a lot of customers, the third try not so good. But hey, this is Hua Hin ... not exactly Mecca.

But Chico is definitely worth a good sit down over drinks and while away a few hours. One of the part owners is named 'Thae' (pardon the phonetics, pronounced as best as I can as 'Tay' ... seen in black t-shirt in the 3rd photo below) and a friendlier young man ~ not pushy in any way, which is my criteria regarding such things ~ you'll not meet.
Good sound system, nice forest of trees guarding the place for some privacy and from a rather noisy street, but unfortunately, no room for a pool table. Upstairs balcony 'dark' room :sign12: Nice clean 'hong nam' ... always a plus.

These photos taken a few nights ago. Not really that good I'm afraid. Just purchased a new non-point-and-shoot camera which is taking a bit of getting used to. But it shows off none too badly the generally quite comfortable and muted ambience of the New Boy in Town: Chico Bar.

Thanks for the pictures, they bring back so good memories ...
I can confirm first-hand the quality of the atmosphere and of the staff ... the "nice forest of trees guarding the place" made me almost miss the place when I went there and I was already asking my motosai driver to drive further when I suddenly realised there were some life beyond these bushes ... I did not regret my visit and two we went back to my hotel with a gorgeous lad from Ratchaburi.

Just went to GayRomeo to see what was available in Hua Hin outside the bars. Only 10 listings. [not all young] I selected western so might have the wrong area.

Smiles If you are in residence, might I suggest that local bar owners encourage local gay gays to join Gay Romeo.

I feel more and more gay tourists are browsing Gay Romeo when planning their trips. The listings are a must. If there are no internet cafes, maybe he should give local moneyboys access to a computer, provided they meet at his bar.

I went to Hua Hin 3 years ago but only stayed 2 nights as I was convinced that there was no gay scene there - bars/gogos/gay beach. Looking at those pictures it looks like there is now, although I suppose one bar doesnt make it a gay resort.

Nicky,

Just letting you know about a gay friendly hotel/rental condos and houses in Cha am - called Baan Talay Samran.

I've stayed there with my boyfriend several times (it's very beautiful and great value - especially the condos). We've been there with gay friends and seen other gay people staying there. The staff are very gay friendly and welcoming. I think a few of the owners are gay.

It's a lovely escape from Bangkok - just two hours drive. It's particularly great for Farang taking a Thai boy on a little break as the Thais love Cha am!!! Also easy access to Hua Hin and it's bars. I would recommend it.

It can be booked via many websites if you search. As I said the condos are particularly good - 4 swimming pools, restaurant, shop, reception, internet, maid service. Condos are very large two beds with two bathrooms, kitchen, large living room and large balcony. On a deserted beach. Much better value and a lot more space than a hotel and more privacy for gay couples.

Hope this is useful. Not sure there is anywhere else in Cha am so this could be the first point on the Cha am gay map! I can only say we always find it very gay friendly and relaxing - certainly not gay central, but some gay couples might like a change of pace and a get away.

It's REALLY useful. As I said, I'm happy to get news of anywhere gay in the rest of Thailand. I've added it here http://www.nickysgaypattaya.com/gay-pattaya/thailand/rest-of-thailand/#chaam and hope others find it an interesting place.
