I'm in New York City this week on business and will be here for the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
The government announced earlier today that al Qaeda may be planning something that will coincide with the anniversary. I've noticed an increased police presence in Washington DC last week and a daily increase of police and tactical units here in Manhattan as we get closer to Sunday's anniversary. CNN mentioned today that intelligence has police looking for 2 trucks that have gone missing and that may be part of a plot. It seems like anything bigger than an SUV is being stopped and searched here in Times Square.
While this threat may be specific to DC or NYC, this isn't to say that travelers in other parts of the world should't be extra careful....especially in parts of the world where al Qaeda has been known to have a presence or have struck previously.
