News says UN and WHO are urging Aussies to avoid contact with live chickens in Thailand and Asia...

I'm sure the warning also applies to everyone else, unless they're insinuating Aussies are especially inept travelers. :happy7:

Apparently, there's signs a mutant strain of bird flu is spreading again. One death this month and several others this year in Cambodia.

Chances of contracting are low but not zero... Good idea to stay clear of chickens if you're around live markets or rural areas.

Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Laos are also susceptible, health experts say.

The World Health Organisation Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza has urged Australians travelling to southeast Asia to be careful.

"They should avoid wet markets ... selling poultry or live birds," the centre's Melbourne-based deputy director Ian Barr said.

Dr Barr said the chance of catching bird flu in Asia was low "but not zero"...
