Who are or who were you?

Hi all
Following on from Dick returning to this board from a fairly long hiatus... i thought it would be worth starting this thread..

I'm Colmx (on these forums at least) - have been posting on Dreaded Ned, GB, GTT, GayThailand, GBT, CFS Etc since then and the people I remember from way back then are:

Most of whom i have never met in real life.... I also remember those that i have met in the past who were so prolific and helpful in my early thailand days.... and were invaluable members to this online community

Yes, DreadedNed was a hoot. Who knows who or where Rick is now, but I remember that his postings aroused as much ire on DN as Beachlover does here. By the way, did you know that the post on DN where Rick described his affectation for taking a flashlight to GoGo bars and checking out the butts of Thai guys before deciding on who to 'off' was the inspiration for one of the short stories in PeterUK's book 'If Truth Be Told'.

Manfarang seems to be gone for good from any of the Boards. I don't think he is using another handle ... it seems to me that's not something he would be bothered to do. I think he may ~ by now ~ be living either full time or part time in Thailand with his boyfriend. But I don't know that for certain.
Tex is now living in Thailand and is a prolific poster on some of the other Boards. I won't disclose his handle (don't think he would want me to). He stopped posting here completely.

Of that first group of yours: 7 of them (myself included) now live full time or semi full time in Thailand.
The second group are all stiffs.

I just re-read a few stroies by PeterUK and Smiles which were among my favorites

I've often wondered what happening to Dave Thaifreak who was one of my favorite cyber-pals.

Colmx, you forgot to mention "Hedda"...LOL.

I've just counted (using my fingers) 12 years since linking up on these forums. The first 5 or so on Alan's Pattayagay - then moving on the Sawatdee - a short trial run on Gaybutton - and now back here where the real maniacs dwell. I've never had any interest in visiting the other sites mentioned.

"Dodger" is not only my screen name here - but also my family nickname since about age 11. I've never used any other name - and still scratch my head when others do.

After surfing through some of the old stories which Jinks linked us to - I realized how much the quality of our postings have declined over the years. It would be nice to see those days return.

I've met most of the long-time members at some point - with the exception of Smiles which is in the plans. I have never met one member who I didn't like - which often contradicted my earlier perceptions.

If you started a poll my guess is that over 80% would agree with you - on both points. Unfortunately there are a few who have taken a lot of the fun out of posting stories. In fact, someone would probably find a way to take your poll personally and send it off to hell in a hand basket, too.

Perhaps that will change, but I'm not holding my breath. Count me as one who enjoys your stories, by the way.

Reason#12 why I love this board (today). I had no idea (hmm how could I) that PeterUK was the author of ' If Truth Be Told'! My favorite gay Thai Anthology, and one of my favorite books (it sits proudly on my book case with my other travel literature). :notworthy:

In the scheme of things` I am still a newby here. I have only been posting since 2007. I am not a prolific poster but if I have something reasonable to add, I will. I have only used the one handle, krobbie, as it uses the first letter of my christian name and an abbreviation of my family name ergo k robbie = krobbie.

I have met maybe 9 or 10 members of this board and I also can say I was/am not disappointed in any of them and most still get a PM every now and then or an intermittent email. Some I see more often as we (my partner and I) enjoy his company and the company of his boyfriend. In fact this persons "old man" calls my partner in Bangkok just to say gidday if he's passing through which always gives my partner a lift emotionally, that he is not just one more anonymous face in BKK. That's friendship right there.

Some I have met but once or twice but have left such impressions upon me that I will meet them if we are in the same country (Thailand) at the same time no matter if I have to make a special trip to do it.

I have been back in Auckland now for some 4 weeks but have already got my ticket and organised my accommodations both in BKK and Chiang Mai for December and even contacted my last SGT contact in that area. All good. It might seem weird to some but from the folk I choose to meet from SGT there is a real sense of fellowship. I cherish that.
