I just had to share this colourful name for the professional attenders that you see here in Pattaya at anything free. Talk about "round up the usual suspects", a bar anniversary, a proprietor's birthday, whatever, there they are plate overloaded, eking out a free drink if they can't cadge a second, comparing notes on the next bludging opportunity.
If you live here you know them all. They are not hard to avoid though, just go someplace where you have to pay.

I mean, I understand the term and your definition of it. I just don't understand why attending free events is a bad thing. I don't live in Thailand, but when I get there, I may attend them. If someone offers me something for free, why shouldn't I take it?

...comparing notes on the next bludging opportunity.

What is, bludging?

Definition from a dictionary of Ozzie slang (http://www.anu.edu.au/andc/ozwords/December%202001/Bludger.html)

People who wear white shoes, of course, are rarely bludgers, unlike those who winge about them interminably.
