After seeing the nice and complete answer about a tailor, I'd like to know if somebody can recommend a place to buy a jade bracelet in Bkk or Pattaya. I bought a very nice one in Chiang Mai, but I got a second request ...
Thank you for your help !

Thank you for the suggestion of Honest Gems. They are very kind but have not really what I am after. I really look for specialist in jade.

There are several shops on the groundfloor of Pratunam Center in BKK that specialize in jade, offering quality merchandise and reasonable prices. Just cruise the aisles and youтАЩll find a shop or two to your liking - but avoid the Afghani dealers!

Really depends on what you are looking for though. A high quality $1,000+ piece of jadeite? Or a 300 baht piece of nephrite? If itтАЩs on the cheaper end, pick out a bracelet you like and then barter your ass off. If on the higher end, make sure the seller isnтАЩt calling it тАШnewтАЩ jade, or тАШoldтАЩ jade, or тАШfill in the blankтАЩ jade, because then it is probably serpentine and you are being given the opportunity to participate in a scam.

If you are not looking for the cheap stuff, there is a small store almost directly across from Planet Silver on the first floor that has a decent selection and is reputable (sorry, canтАЩt remember the name of the place).

Thank you Rush, that is exactly what I wanted. I am looking for a piece of real jade, and I am not looking for a cheap copy. The place I visited in Chiang Mai, and which I found good is the Jade factory down the parking of Doi Suthep. I bought a nice bracelet, but didn't know yet I was "suggested" to bring a second back.
I will pay that place a visit as soon as I am in Bkk next week.

The place you are talking about in Chiang Mai is the NEW ORCHID JADE FACTORY. I am afraid it is on the tourist route and while everything you find there is genuine and correctly advertised, it is slightly expensive. However, if you cannot tell jadeite from nephrite, or Imperial Jade from yellow green jade then this is the place to go and buy. During the slow season you can bargain.

They were very correct explaining the different colours and quality, and the according prices. They certainly are on the tourist route, but I don't think they cheat on quality. And the prices were reduced. And if you love the piece and the quality of the stone and the workmanship good, I tend to forget the price.
I know a bit about jade, as I am lucky to own a few beautiful pieces, but certainly no expert. Thank you for your comment.
I wish there was more inside tips of this quality on this board for us holidaymakers.

I went to Pratunam Center and found the shop nearly opposite Planet Silver - it's on the ground floor, the others being in the basement with the silver merchants - and found some very nice quality merchandise. Thank you !

Glad to hear my suggestion was of help, lukylok. But coming back to post a thanks? Awfully civilized of you but IтАЩm fairly certain that kind of thing is prohibited under this boardтАЩs posting guidelines.
