There's a story in Bangkok Post (http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/243165/cover-up-accusations-fly-over-hit-and-run) about military inteference in a police investigation. However it looks to have its origin in one Thai causing another to lose face. The victim, a woman, found a car parked across her driveway and asked the local restaurant to check if it was one of their patrons. When she came out later to get her own car into the driveway, the original car was driven at her. She's now comatose in hospital. Just an ordinary story of road rage? Not quite. The investigation appears to be hampered because, it is said, the driver of the car is a high-ranking military officer. Be careful who you mess with and cause to lose face!

They certainly take their parking issues seriously.

I recall something about a French tourist shot dead in Phuket for daring to park in a space considered by the Tuk Tuk mafia to be "theirs".

I'd like to think it's a consequence o the media publicity - a colonel attached to the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters (RTAFH) surrendered (http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/local/243281/officer-in-hit-and-run-case-surrenders) to Phayathai police on Tuesday for questioning over an incident in which a woman doctor at Phra Mongkut Hospital was hit by a car and seriously injured 10 days ago. A colonel! Someone tell Beachlover - that damn homintern is everywhere.
