Any recommendations for a hotel near the action in BKK? Only stayed once and can't remember the name of the place. Budget about 1000bt - plan to bring a Pattaya boy with me, but want to be near bars and clubs.

Thanks for any recommendations.

For 1200 baht you can get the Silom Regent.

I stayed in it this Jan. Nothing special - room was a bit dark and gloomy, furniture a bit tired, but it was clean and the shower, etc, worked.

The main entrance is in that little side-soi that Richards Pub and GOD are on, so the location couldn't be better- a two minute walk to the Telephone and Balcony pub and a five minute walk to the Soi Duangthawee bars.

The Bug and Bee restaurant provides the room service.

I always use Wotif.com

Last time I stayed in the Dusit Thani for aud $70 a night.

This time I am in Bandara Suite Bangkok for 7400 baht for 4 nights, I love a 5 star room at the same price you would pay for a shit heap motor inn in Australia :headbang:

http://www.wotif.com/

If you want the Dusit Thani cheap, take the mystery 5 Star mystery deal for 2999 Baht per night, it says it is near the BTS skytrain and is Bangkok's place for 5 star events .

Wotif also has cheaper places in Silom

Thanks for the replies, guys. The Silom Regent looks ok for the price and in the right location.

The others are a bit out of my price range. I'll keep looking around. Any other suggestions?

Thanks again.

Joe... Take a look at the Bally's Studio Suite Silom to see if it suits you: http://www.ballys-studio.com/silom/view ... ?page_id=1 (http://www.ballys-studio.com/silom/viewpage.php?page_id=1)

Fantastic location, right next to Sala Daeng Skytrain Station and overlooks Silom Soi 2 where DJ Station is. Rooms are nice, fairly new and very clean but have very little natural light (that's its biggest downside). There's a DVD player and internet via a LAN cable in each room. Breakfast is very basic but ok. Staff are very friendly.

If you ignore the rack rate and call them they usually offer their Suprior Room for 1,800 baht/night and Suite room (not a suite, just a big room) for 2,400 baht/night.

It's right next to DJ Station and the Silom Soi 2 bars:

Yeah, totally agree... If you want to pay a little more, Dusit Thani is well worth it. Top location overlooking the park, only 2 mins' walk to DJ Station and 10 mins to Soi Twilight. Nice rooms with stunning views of the skyline. The staff are super friendly and the service is fantastic at this place. You can usually get Deluxe rooms around 3,000 baht/night. Grab their breakfast if you can, it's superb.

The view...

It can be worth paying a bit more for their Club Room but make sure you get one facing the park (rooms on the other side of the building have a crap view):

Le Meridien Hotel is the other similarly-priced hotel, which is right in the middle of the gay nightlife in Silom.

Super-nice rooms and great location, 10 mins' walk to DJ Station and the Skytrain Station and only 2-3 mins' walk to the Soi Twilight bars. When I stayed, their website said they charged 500 baht/day for internet, but I when I called them they waived the fee so internet was free, as it should be.

You can usually get rooms for 3,000 to 4,000 baht/night, which is cheap for a hotel of this calibre.

Try Om Yim - it is just in 50 meters from Sky Train and in 2 min walking to Silom street

Rooms 900 - 1200 baht. It is gay hotel, so no problem with joiners.

On my 1st and last visit at Om Yim Lodge, all i can say you have a hike up the stairs to your room, no lift. I was located on the hotel side of the BTS, and the noise and building shook due to BTS from early morning to the last BTS of the day. NO double glazing or noise prevention. I would avoid at ALL costs, my sleep pervention and relaxtion took me days to recover over lost sleep. I only stayed there as a Thai friend recommend the hotel, i normally stay at the Sofitel on Silom Road, but now have found a gem of a hotel called SilQ, on Sukhumvit 19 for 50% cheaper than Sofitel and just the same high standards from staff and furnishings. Unless your budget is limited and you like staying in a gay hotel, try OM Yim Lodge at your prevail.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I don't like paying a lot for a hotel since I usually only use it to sleep and shower in, so it doesn't need to be fancy, just clean and in the area I want.

Of course, the choice in BKK is just so huge, it's not an easy decision. Part of the fun of holidays for me is the planning so keep those suggestions coming. But really, I won't pay more than 1500Bt.

I've always wanted to try out the Gltiz Hotel... http://www.glitzbangkok.com/ ... It's right in the middle of the gay nightlife in Silom. Looks bright and fun and you can get rooms for on or around 1,500 baht/night, I believe.

I can't decide what's more laughable, being so impressed with staying in a 5 star hotel that you take pictures of the inside of the room. Or then posting the pictures on the net but blacking out any tiny little personal object because someone might identify you by the brand of laptop you use.

NO double glazing or noise prevention.
The information about them not having double paned windows on the street-side rooms at the Om Yim is incorrect - they do have them, and black-out curtains for those who want the room completely dark.

The isn't an elevator/lift, though. Request a room on the first floor (that's the floor above ground level for the newbies who don't already know that).

How much did you pay for a room at SilQ? What about their joiner policy? Is the room well lit? I like to read once in a while and can't stand those rooms which only provide very basic lightning.

Thanks for all the advice. I settled on The Heritage Bangkok - room for under 4000Bt for 3 nights and it has a pool, which is important to me. It's at Soi Narathivas 3, Narathivas Rd., Silom. What's this area like?

Happy Travels!

I see you've decided on a hotel, but if lacking a pool isn't a deal-breaker for others I have another suggestion in the Bt1000-1300 range: The Sathron Inn, right at the Chong Nonsi BTS - as is the Om Yim - and comparable in price.

I have stay in this hotel many times. If you hear noise from street that means only one thing - you forgot to close window. Coz in Om Yim they have not "double" but quadruple glass: two layer x 2 glass. Have you ever stay there???

Om Yim is gay owned and operated. There's no joiner fee and they ask to take/hold the ID of your guest.

I've never brought an outside guest to the Sathorn Inn but was told when visiting with the owner that they do not charge a joiner's fee. I would suppose they hold IDs, too, but I can't say for sure.

and a Chinese cemetery on the other. I assume the windows are double glazed Assuming the chinese you refer to in the cemetery are dead, why would one have the need for double glazing? Would all that cemetery noise get in the way of your keeping a clear head while you compose all your dreary observations of ghetto life? Here you are criticising a guesthouse you have NEVER even stayed in. Why do you bother?
On my 1st and last visit at Om Yim Lodge, all i can say you have a hike up the stairs to your room, no lift. Unless your budget is limited and you like staying in a gay hotel, try OM Yim Lodge at your prevail.Oh dear it's a wonder any hotel fits your requirement. You seem a rather sensitive, fussy soul, all that sleep pervention and relaxation taking DAYS to recover over lost sleep. There would'nt be just a tad over-dramatics involved in your description would there. I have stayed at Om Yim, never lost a minute's sleep there. Once your luggage is taken to your room for you by the receptionist, look on the 'hike up and downstairs' as excellent form of exercise, unless i'm above the 4th floor in any hotel I always use the stairs. I didn't feel the building shake as you did from the BTS, and how would you know the building shook from early morning to last train of the day, if you were not in your room the whole time to know, If you were there from 5am to 11.59pm (the time the BTS is working) why are you complaining about the stairs as it seems you don't even go out of your room. Why anyone who is used to, and prefers the like of the Sofitel would consider a small guesthouse god only knows. Why did you try the Om Yim in the first place, did the prices not give you a hint that the rooms were not going to be of the same quality? And as others have pointed out there IS double glazing and noise prevention. Although my budget is not limited in any way, i just like the easy, laid back non-judgemental atmosphere there, as you get in the Tarntawan Hotel. And also because.................

In the UK i use the Hilton chain for accomodation, but when I'm in Thailand I hate to stay anywhere which reminds me of ANYTHING whatsoever to do with farangland as the international hotel chains do. I go to Thailand to get away from all that stuff. I stayed at the Pan Pacific on my very first trip to Bkk because it was a business trip, it was nice, comfy, just like a hilton chain hotel...and i would'nt want to see the inside of a place like that again while i'm in Thailand. But each to their own.

Why you need elevator? Best rooms are at first floor...Certainly there are rooms of the second-best variety on the 1st floor, but in my opinion the best room is on the top floor. This is the biggest room in Om Yim, good sized bed area as with the 1st floor room but also a dining area with a table for six, and kitchen area also, with sink, worktops, cupboards, microwave, large fridge etc... But although not nearly as big, as Moses says the biggest of first floor rooms is the next best and perfectly adequate.

Om Yim is gay owned and operated. There's no joiner fee and they ask to take/hold the ID of your guest. Both being pluses.I would certainly recommend the Om Yim for a room in the Bt1000-Bt1400 rate catagory.

Who cares about a hotel pool when you can enjoy the Pool at the Babylon during the day... :evil4: If you don't mind taking a one stop subway ride, you can stay at The Pinnacle Lumpini, VIncent's place, The Malaysia, or the Ibis Hotel. All for $1500 or less (and within walking distance of The Babylon and some good restaurants).

I must really be getting under your skin Hahaha, i just spat out MY coffee over breakfast too thonglor, I can't believe you are so niave to fall for that old chestnut i laid out for you. That is exactly how you play your games on here, setting up sniping remarks by putting words into others mouths, quoting out of context is a great favourite of yours, and the continuing flogging of repetitive subject matter on every thread where possible, as you did with the ghetto comments, added to that criticism of a guesthouse you never even stayed in. I just thought I 'd play you at your own game, I didn't think for a second you'd actually be dumb enough to fall for it! can't believe it was hook, line and sinker result.... You've even started using the words I use....dreary!

That response rates ever funnier than 'Once In Awhile' declaring Surfcrest as a genius. Now Thonglor, do you have more reviews and comments of any other hotels in Bkk you have NEVER stayed in, or do you have a comment which for once might actually be positive and relevent to the thread you are contributing to and give us a review of somewhere you HAVE actually stayed. I suspect that may be asking way too much.

FAO Naklua, i pay for a Deluxe Room at SilQ 1,700 Baht, due to corporate discount.

As for Newalaan, i can a sure you my room wasn't noise prevented and the room i was located shook due to the BTS and the noise. My room was located facing the BTS line. From the last BTS to the 1st service of the day, my room shook and noisy due to the BTS. During my 4 nights there i always left the room after breakfast as there was no point in any staying longer in the room to sleep or relax. On a good point the Wi - Fi is excellent in the room and staff attentive & friendly. Ya, on the reception helped to carry my large amount of heavy luggage up 2 set of stairs with his partner.

I am very fortunate to stay in some of the best and Five Stars hotels located around the world due to my employment, i didn't check out of Om Yim Lodge after my 1st night as i didn't want my Thai friend who made the recommendation to lose face with me checking out.

Geez... That's a bit harsh, Alaan. I've no problem sleeping through noise but I'd be pissed off if my sleep was stuffed by a noisy room too... Why attack him for it?

So you had a different experience to him. What reason could he have to lie about it?
