we always stay at the old tower inn and when it became unico grande it seemed no different. now it seems more upmarket, pics on website look cool but cost of room now double. we can get small room at sofital cheaper not with breakfast though. we usually sleep through breakfast so that does not worry.

Furama Silom looks like a decent cheaper alternative to the Sofitel across the road. 2,500 - 3,400 baht for Superior/Deluxe Rooms with breakfast. Their Club Room rate is good value - 4,400 baht.

Sofitel rooms are around 4,000 baht (no breakfast) and 5,500 for club room now.

Both are walking distance to the Silom nightlife and Chong Nonsi BTS Station is a 5-min walk around the corner.

Seen from Sofitel room (Narai Hotel can also be good value):

Sofitel Room (Club Floor - I think it was level 17 or 27):

agoda today quoted 2700 baht per night no breakfast for sofitel. suits us fine. narai gave us hard time on joiners.

dont know if this link will work.

Chatrium looks ok but location feels too isolated to me for the price...

Never took anyone back to the Narai so didn't know joiners are an issue there.

2,700 is an absolute bargain for the Sofitel, even if it doesn't include the extra 17% fees/taxes. Their rooms are really nice with the floor to ceiling windows and super-comfortable beds. Ask for a high floor because it's a really tall building and the view is stunning from the top floors. If you get a club room, you're guaranteed a high floor because all the club rooms are on level 17 or 27 (forget which).

Try Chatrium, I've stayed there 5 times up to now. Miles ahead of the other two you're looking at. Has it's own shuttle boat to BTS station. Max 10 mins to Silom on BTS.
Quality is way ahead of Sofitel. Just check out www.tripadvisor.com (http://www.tripadvisor.com) for some feedback. Sofitel is getting a tad tired nowadays. No problem on joiners too.
