My friends in Singapore have asked a number of questions about the daynight area, and as I have not been in Pattaya since before Xmas and little has been posted , can we get some info on the following.

The Flamingo was being converted into condos. Has this happened, has it started?

There were rumours that Mosaik was on the market before Xmas . Anything more or was it just a rumour.

Chez Vicki is up for sale? Are all the other restaurants still open.

Is Cats place still open?

The area formerly used by Blue House before they moved next door. is that occupied, if so what as.

Has there been any changes to the other restaurants in soi 2 plus Dolphin.

My friends in Singapore have asked a number of questions about the daynight areaI cant help with all the questions but from my visit in February i can advise.......
There were rumours that Mosaik was on the market before Xmas . Anything more or was it just a rumourI too had heard various rumours regarding Mosaik and was a bit concerned it might head 'downhill'. Nong at Mosaik wouldn't/couldn't confirm anything with regards to sale of Mosaik, but i was pleased to find that as far as staying there, nothing had changed. The room was immaculate as usual and servces spot on. I've booked another week there in a couple of months time.
The Flamingo was being converted into condos. Has this happened, has it started? The Flamingo apartments would appear to be ready. But it seems they are targeted at long term occupancy, the advertising i did see, only spoke of attractive long term rates no daily/weekly rates advertised, of course that may have changed/be changing since Feb.

One thing which has added colour again to that part of the soi, is that the Mai Thai lounge/bar which was part of the old Flamingo Hotel has been re-opened. I think it's still called Mai Thai and they've used the old signs, but it's much brighter than the original My Thai and it is has a wide frontage, i think it is French owned. They kept much of the furniture from the original, but that was always in excellent condition so it looks smart. They've re-decorated, changed some stuff around, refurbished and taken down walls here and there, and it looks nice. They now have 2 pool tables right at the very back instead of just the one before, and because the place is so big it doesn''t interfere with atmosphere in the lounge part. It does have a full menu and advertises itself as full restaurant service,i think they merged the MontiChristo (the old Flamigo resaurant)restaurant with it. They also specialise in cocktails, nice comfortable place to sit for a drink.

With regards to the food. The western dishes are not particularly cheap, but seem reasonable. We only had Thai food, by bf, who is very critical regading his food, thought his dishes were superb. Obviously dearer than the adjacent Salt&Pepper eatery, but nicer surroundings and better quality Thai food than S&P.
Is Cats place still open?It was closed in February.
The area formerly used by Blue House before they moved next door. is that occupied, if so what as. No movement in that building from what i could see during my stay. Ta, the previous owner of Blue House decided to call it a day when the owners tried to force a massive hike in rent, and he had enough, also he had wanted out of it for a while to try other businesses in Bkk or his hometown. Also he is a very good Issan Song singer and often guestes at Issan concerts so i think he wanted to do more with that. The farang boyfriend of Pong, one of the managers took over the business and much of the fittings, agreed a deal with the smaller shop unit next door and opened up, the change of business was done in a fair and friendly manner, the only party losing out was the greedy owner of the original Blue House building which had rented the place for years, paying rent for years always on the dot, he lost an excellent tennent.
Has there been any changes to the other restaurants in soi 2 plus Dolphin.I couldn't see any changes to any of the other restaurants in the area, they all seemed to be operating as usual and even with the new Mai Thai restaurant they still seem busy enough, Dophin restaurant was open and seemed exactly as it was before in layout and menu.

As far as beinng a convenient area to stay it remains as such. Wat Chai food area still as busy as ever with boys after 1am, Office Boy bar was open and when i passed in the early evenings was usually busy. The Buffalo bar was also open but i'm not sure what their target clientelle is. Seems to open later and always has guys sitting there who are Thaai so i'm not sure if they are hosts or Thai customers. They don't seem to do anything to entice customers in.

Hope this helps, things of course may have changed even since late Feb. Sorry in advance for any errors in the above, it was rushed.

I just returned from my one month stay at the Mosaik Apartments in Soi Day Night. For some reason I kind of like staying in the Day Night area. Even though most times I rent a motorbike and get around Pattaya without an issue, most of my travel companions are reliant on public transportation and foot power. I love the convenience of being able to walk to most places in South Pattaya. Also, I love the fact that Tukcom shopping center is right at the entrance of the soi. The markets, restaurants and retails stores make staying there pretty decent. I was surprised to see some of the positive changes since my previous visit to Thailand.

I was not aware of the rumors that Mosaik was up for sale. It seemed like business as usual when I was there last month. The staff was pretty much the same and efficient with any request I had during my stay.

My room was on the 5th floor of the Mosaik opposite the old Flamingo hotel. I could see that the rooms were being renovated and new furnishings were being put into place. There was a guy painting the trimming on Flamingo everyday. It did not look like it was going to be luxury accommodations but from glancing inside the windows it appears to be adequate place for a brief stay in Pattaya.

I was also surprised to see that Blue House moved into what looks like more modern accommodations. Although, it looked like there were fewer guys working there at this time. I remember last time I was there they used to all be outside eating, drinking, talking and generally socializing with each other and their friends. I noticed minimal activity there during this trip whenever I sat outside opposite the Blue House with the security guards of the Mosaik.

The restaurant on the corner of Mosaik seemed quite busy as did the one opposite that one. It appears that the Soi Day Night area is getting more attention these days. I am looking forward to coming back there for another brief stay soon.

Friend that stayed in Mosaik in Jan said he had dinner 7 nights in a row within 100 yards his front door. Also his favourite place and mine , coffee shop /bakery grottino, is the place next door to Mosaik. I used to alternate coffee between Grottino and Gafae in South rd which is excellent cofee, S&P in Tukcom for lunch and eye candy.

The first floor room with balcony almost overlooking the area where the Blue House boys sit
is very popular.

Any info re the condos on sale further west of soi daynight 3 , almost behind the Friendship supermarket would be appreciated.

I did get a PM that suggested that the appeal of the soi daynight area is there are no go go allowed. That is not correct. There was the pussy bar Cats, Office Boy has off boys whether go go I dont know and in Soi 1 there was several attempts to operate gogo but did not attract the crowds. Birdcage and before that Leks were too big for the area although tremendous fun. It was sad they folded.

Hi,

Birdcage folded because I wasn't there and it therefore did not have the management for the direction it needed to go in.There became a power vacuum after my wrongful incarceration and Mark and Tam could not function together. One too many queens in the castle! :laughing3:

It was a shame,it could have been good with a lot of work, but we were prepared for hard work. :crybaby: :crybaby:

Also, shortly after came the big crash around the World with the collapse of tourism, so who knows?? maybe,it would have worked or maybe fell victim to the crash as did a great many places. We'll never know now. :dontknow: :dontknow:

Que sera sera.

I think Sunee is going downhill and somewhere in South Pattaya a new Sunee will arise. Probably it could be daynight.

Sorry my friend claimed to have dinner a 7 different restaurants in 7 days, within 100 yards the front door of Mosaik

6 months ago Billy posting as gertrude on GBT, listed the businesses for sale or the empty premises available and the rent and other charges.

Is there a website that features gay bars /restaurants for sale/rent?
