Hi Guys, I will be going to Bkk in July for 3 weeks. I have always flown from the States, but now I am located in Sydney, AU.
Can you guys tell me what carrier you prefer and why? Cheapest?
Thanks!

But donald, on 24 Jun 2009 you posted that you were taking on 27 Jun 2009 Thai Air from Sydney and had a layover in BKK before going to Chiang Mai.
And in this one you stated you have always flown from the States.
You should have probably stated that you wanted updated information rather that putting it the way you did.

Fares change all the time so whoever's cheapest today may not be tomorrow.

To fly from Australia, go to http://www.jetabroad.com.au and enter the day you want to travel. I've always found this online booking agent to be cheapest and their flight search interface is the easiest to use. You can go to the carrier's website to cross-quote too.

From memory, your options for Sydney-Bangkok are:

- THAI (direct)
- Qantas (direct)
- British Airways (direct)
- Singapore Airlines (stopover in Singapore)
- Emirates (direct)

Qantas/Singapore tend to be my favorite and are usually most competitive.

Low cost carriers (LCCs) won't show up on the booking agent above. For LCCs www.jetstar.com (http://www.jetstar.com) do Sydney to Phuket and Melbourne to Bangkok direct... Otherwise, www.airasia.com (http://www.airasia.com), www.vaustralia.com (http://www.vaustralia.com) and www.tigerairways.com (http://www.tigerairways.com) also do flights to Asia but none of them do Sydney to Thailand direct.

I always use the Platinum Travel service from American Express no matter which country I'm in; I'm surprised you don't do the same Beachlover - or maybe you don't qualify for a Platinum or Black card?

You're right about V Australia! Damn... I was hoping they'd expand their services to Thailand. Nice to see they're flying to Singapore from Brisbane though!

Nice to see they're flying to Singapore from Brisbane though!3 days a week, and the flight isn't even operated by V Australia but by Ethihad under their code-share agreement with Virgin. Nice to know you're focussed on the details which are where most people are interested, Beachlover. If you want to fly with a bunch of terrorists, be my guest.

Thank you Thong - I wondered why the cabin crew were wearing balaclavas.
