View Full Version : Large Raid Soi 2 Boys Town

February 3rd, 2011, 23:59
Well folks about 200 police swooped down on Soi 2 tonight looking at all businesses, go go and otherwise, checking on licenses and doing pee pee tests for staff. Looked like about 7 boys taken in total. Falang were treated politely and not bothered at all. The raid took only about 1 hour.
As Soi 1 was raided last week and Soi 2 this week...... watch out Soi 3!

Well I hope they get all this RAID stuff out of the way before I get there next month. Actually I bet if they used straight malathion that would cure the problem of all the bugs. What? Not that kind of RAID. Oh well.

New information has it that these raids are being conducted by BANGKOK based police force.

Also......while I wrote about the "raids" I would like to make something perfectly clear......
The raids were swift, professional and NOT aimed at "go go bar or falang (tourists).
They came in, they closed the street down and went into EVERY business to check IDs of the people working there. After checking IDs, anyone that did not have the proper ID or that failed a urine test was escorted to the paddy wagon. They did NOT ask ANY falang for ID. They were cordial and reassured everyone that it was only an ID and urine test raid. They were looking for staff members of ANY business that was not in compliance.
They even tested restaurants, bars, go go bars, jewlery shops, anything.

Tourists were permitted to exit if they wanted with no problem. They DID however take a movie picture of anyone in the go go bars and businesses I gather for later review. Nothing to be concerned about if you are not a wanted individual, and even if you were to be, they did not look at falang.

Personally I have to say that it was interesting and certainly professional looking for illegal aliens and druggies. Cleans up the businesses and therefore you have not so much to be concerned about as long as you keep your business and life pretty clean.

Wow... so you get pee tested, even if you're just a storekeeper or a waiter in a restaurant.

Yes, I guess when they are looking for drugs or people who use drugs, these people are not only in places where alcohol is served.

I was in BAngkok over Christmas and Silom Soi 4 was raided one night about 10.00. The police took over the Spanish Tapas restaurant and drug tested everyone [pissing in bottle] befor being allowed to leave the soi. Great for business, most first time tourists woudl think twice about ever returning there.

Having travelled the world the past 50 years the only vaguely similar police arrogance I have ever encountered was in Belgium in the 70's which was then, maybe not now, a total police state with bars, streets, often blocked off whilst the police checked all ID's. Of course I used to harrass the Belgian police [as I was totally legal] telling them that I came from a FREE country, Australia, where we did not even have ID cards.

Danny99, the raid on Soi 2 as with the raid on Soi 1 was conducted in the most professional manner as I am sure was the one of the same police in Bangkok Soi 4.It took all of 1 hour and tourists were not bothered in the least.
You say that you come from a free society, but I need to say that I feel abit safer knowing that DRUG USERS and dealers are targeted and removed from the streets. ID cards in my humble opinion is a safe and easy way to insure that the people roaming the streets are legal age or legal and not wanted for crimes.
I certainly do not think ID cards is a form or signal of having a police state but rather a way to know that when a boy or girl is roaming around without thier proper ID, then it is a signal to police to check them further, as they may not have it for a serious reason other than just forgetting it at home. :drunken:

I am immediately reminded of 2 different quotes after reading that.

"If we know, then we must fight for your life as though it were our ownтАж. For if they take you in the morning, they will be coming for us that night."
James Baldwin

"First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out.
And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me."
Martin Niemoller

"Once in Awhile", I frequently quote Niemoller's statement myself and take nothing but flak for doing so. And do you really think most of the people writing here have read Baldwin? I think for the most part these ideas will fall on deaf ears on this forum. Nevertheless, here are a couple more for you:

"Have you noticed that it is the most civilised gentlemen who have been the subtlest slaughterers, to whom the Attilas and Stenka Razins could not hold a candle, and if they are not so conspicuous as the Attilas and Stenka Razins it is simply because they are so often met with, are so ordinary, and have become so familiar to us." -FYODOR DOSTOEVSKY, Notes From the Underground, Part I; VII

"Our entire much-praised technological progress, and civilization generally, could be compared to anя╗┐ ax in the hand of a pathological criminal." -ALBERT EINSTEIN

"The world's turning into a madhouse, one half of society gloating righteously over the torments of the other. Most people don't realize which side of the bars they are." -J. G. Ballard, The Insane Ones, 1962

And the person the BBC called the "Father of modern psychiatry" had this to tell us about ourselves:

"We are all murderers and prostitutes - no matter to what culture, society, class, nation one belongs, no matter how normal, moral, or mature, one takes oneself to be." -R. D. Laing

I wonder why the raids were all specifically aimed at establishments where falang (tourists) hang out?

February 15th, 2011, 18:09
Cedric, it was not aimed specifically where tourists hang out but rather a densely populated area where boys hang out that have a tendancy to be doing drugs or running from the law.On each individual street there are prbably a few thousand boys and a great area to pick up the bad boys you want to catch. The police were polite, organized and well mannered. They had absolutely no interest in the tourists/falang at all.

I read in the paper that the bars targeted were all falang hangouts, bar owners took their complaints about this to the press. Why are the police not raiding places where Thais hang out. I mean they're looking for drugs right?

Because as I said above, that is the area where most people work night entertainment spots that may USE drugs. Party spots where alcohol and drugs are used.
If you listen to Pattaya People, some Thai entertainment Karaokee venues are raided and inspected and drug users taken away almost every night.

February 16th, 2011, 09:47
How come so many boys in the sex industry use drugs?

I thought maybe the police were also of course looking for underage male sex workers and their pimps, a bust would of course give them international kudos.

Yes Cedric. You are correct. Drugs, underage etc. Anything illegal.

February 16th, 2011, 17:03
The idea seemed that corruption was at play is why they didn't/dont raid Thai places only falang?

The english language forums and newspapers are only interested in discussing and reporting FARANG bars. Only someone as naive as you would assume that other thai bars , karaoke and discos remain untouched.

I read that in a local news paper, that they only raided falang establishments, this was said by the falang bar owners there? Where were you?

telling them that I came from a FREE country, Australia, where we did not even have ID cards.
Do you really think countries like Thailand shouldn't have ID cards or that the absence of ID cards has anything to do with being a "FREE" country?

Countries like Australia and New Zealand can get by with ID cards because we have no land borders. Thailand has vastly unmonitored land borders on four sides. Add to that the fact that it attracts a lot of illegal workers (it's economy is stronger than at least 3 out of 4 of its neighbours) and many of its citizens don't hold a passport or drivers license (typically used to ID in Australia).
