View Full Version : HUGE SUNNE RAID 18 JAN

There was a massive raid in Sunne tonight. Probably at least 50-75 officers and about 20 vehicles blocking all exits.

I walked around and witnessed every venue being visited and every member of staff at each one was checked. Most, if not all, were pee tested.

Pee test staions were set up at various places.

I only saw a few being carted off and suspect word was out beforehand.

There was an obvious high ranking officer being escorted around the Plaza, while it all went on, and his every move was videod by the large media scrum.

Unfortunately, Good Boys had closed shop about an hour before the fun started!!

and someone was posting about being "bored" in Pattaya.
hope he got to watch the pee tests.
how nice of them to raise the excitement level.

hope none of the poor boys had a cold/headache and took
meds that give a false positive to
their creepy tests.

Hi,

I've read the link but you don't think the Police will let facts or the truth get in the way of locking someone up and relieving them of any cash or valuables,do you? I think not.... :laughing3:

They don't care if you've taken meds for a cough, cold, hep B,or Pneumonia, Their policy never changes, give us your money! All of it!

It was quite a show to watch!!!
The police's first wave swooped in on their scooters; then bringing back up as their pick up trucks and rolling jail blocked the ends of the sois. Everyone, police, customers, owners and boys, were quite pleasant to each other: which I gather is the Thai way. There were quite a number of police agencies envolved providing a number of different uniforms...something for most everyone with a uniform fetish. They arrived in waves going from brown on to black and then boys in tan...these waves were all a bit confused by the news media who were running about like chickens with their heads cut off. To add to the confusion it was obvious that the only pre planning done by the police was to say. "Let's have a raid in Sunee." as every one ran about looking for pee bottles, documents and one thing or the other and trying to look professional as they were literally planning on run.

I spent most of the time the raid was in progress having red wine at Corner Bar where the pool table and several of the seating areas were cleared for the pee test (which took place in the bathroom) and detention of those who failed the test. Here is what I noticed and several of the others in attendance found striking. Of all of the boys arrested for failing the test we only recognized one, an over weight ladyboy mamasan from one of the GOGO Bars.
I heard that there was an one hour warning put out to the bars that a "Party" was about to begin, so it would appear that the only ones caught up in the trap were the street walkers and those not smart enough to get out of town while the getting was good.

I'm sure business will be back to normal tonight as the police have made a big news splash which will please all of those who needed to be appeased and the police made a few extrat baht so they can afford some of the little extras in life.

Exactly. I'm continually in wonder of farangs who insist on thinking that the police in Thailand ever do anything which actually consists of objectively enforcing any given law.

I imagine they are very corrupt, and you see it more if you live here. I once watched 5 cops pulling people over and giving them tickets for no helmets. When it was time to move on they all got on three motorcycles and drove away without helmets. :dontknow:

As I mentioned in another thread, once "cleanups" begin they spread like a cancer. New scapegoats must be constantly created. This is a huge money spinner for all involved, directly and indirectly... the NGOs, the police, the foreign agents.
I remember when your partner Mark, may his soul rest in peace, fell prey one such "cleanup".

It's now totally out of control and even were all of Pattaya to be turned into a convent, new issues would have to invented to keep the scam rolling.

Not every place in Sunne was inspected.
I saw plenty of police, and photographers.
However, not one enter Oud's Cafe.

What would the police do without Sunee Plaza. It seems like it is an easy target to keep going back to. I never hear of them going to Boyztown or in the straight areas of Walking Street, or am I wrong?

Hi,

Anyone naive enough to think that these raids are for the benefit of downtrodden, the vulnerable or the children in need, want their heads testing! Those who even have an elementary grasp of Thailand know this.

This is what the NGO's,the foreign government agencies don't get, Those in power, and in direct charge of Policing, don't give a damn about street urchins,or the fact they are taking drugs and prostituting themselves.

It is only a popular photo opportunity, for the benefit of both the Bangkok and Worlds press, and to portray the face of compassion, that the Thai Police would like the World to see. The public image.

Once its out of the sight of the cameras, its back to real issues,Money!

I was there somedays back and frankly I couldn't see anything worth raiding!

I hate to sound like others here that just love to post anything. When I was in Sunnee during this trip I had a drink in Oud's my guess is they didn't raid it as they though might die of boredom.

As K.Q. said once the photo op etc.. has been done and everyone involved clears off all will turn back to as it was. Any body who has lived in Thailand for any length of time will have witnessed these sham operations so many times without any noticable changes ever occuring afterwards. If the Thai Government was sincere in clamping down on such things then one of the first steps would be to give the BIB a decent salary which 'might' (sic) help cut down on the corruption that is so prevalent within the law enforcement agencies from the very top all the way down to the bottom, and that will never ever happen.

January 19th, 2011, 18:55
Even in the rural villages the BIB are not exactly adored.

Don't wish something you might later regret, there was enough violence in Bangkok last year!

Not wrong if you didn't hear. They got Wild West Boys a year or so ago?

dab69,

What happened, and I seriously don't know?

Also, the Police do visit BT and the straight areas but get paid on time every month,so they tend to be less serious.

Boyztown tends to 'tow the line' where age and substance abuse are controlled as much as possible ,higher profile area,so plenty of plain clothes cops around.

In Sunnee, the guys and trade tends or tended to be a bit more on the wild side, less trustworthy, more street trade, hence less overall control and in areas, younger guys.

So true, i once sat and watched a cop standing at these large tour buses of mainland Chinese (we are in Hong Kong here) he selected boys out of the crowd to maul. He would make them stand with their legs apart and their hands up behind their heads in the air and literally assault them, prying open their buttocks ans scrummaging for testicles and cock asking whats this whats this?. I was horrified and felt deeply for these boys so I called the cops.

Unfortunately by the time they arrived Mr fat Plod had moved off.

As MARK mentioned, there was a huge raid on Soi 6 within the past week or so. Rumor has it that the whole thing started with a weekly article by Stickman (including photos) reporting alleged immoral activity going on in that Soi. So, please be careful of what you post on these message boards and in your blogs.

The police may choose to but do not have to monitor blogs for information ike that - there are plenty of ex-pat police informants and "volunteers" feeding information through in order to deflect the heat from their own "activities".

I confess to smoking a cigar (literally) in a Sunee bar the other night - I expect BIB+PDN to arrive imminently.

It seems the problem is that they received advanced warning in the form of tip offs... This makes the entire operation an almost complete waste of time, money and attention.

If they really wanted to clean out the place they'd do a series of raids, ensuring there are no leaks each time.

January 23rd, 2011, 18:06
It's all part of the charade that has been going for years and years. Get the media involved to make it look like the authorities care, put out a few warnings so not to damage their money making operations then do the raid. Pattaya raids also happen when a new man takes over either the Bangkok side of the BIB or the Pattaya side. It's just to show there is a new man in charge and he expects his tea money which in turn helps recoup the money it has cost him to get the top job.

I was In Bangkok around these dates and walked from Soi Twilight to the mrt and many boys were handcuffed and taken away .
about 7 police cars and dozens of police .these boys looked so young so i hope the police do this on a regular basis .Any bar that has underage boys should be closed permanetly
this would stop the shit ,also what happen to the days where the bar tested there boys for drugs .my advice to any bar owner is you want a good name and many customers to return then clean it up .i sure dont want to be in a bar when it raided.

I spoke to a Sunee bar owner the following day - he told me that he was warned (by the local police) of an impending large scale raid approx 1 hour in advance of it happening.

Yes its a charade - but that is how it works over here - I guess if you want to run a business in this environment you take this in your stride - can't be easy but won't change anytime soon.
Until the BiB are paid reasonably tea money will always be an issue

Hi,

I think you're spot on with that one! Very astute and accurate post.

Also gents, please understand this, When the guys in brown come around to collect the envelopes each month, Why would any of you be foolish/naive enough to believe it is only for Pattaya that they are collecting? :sharm: :sharm:

The ones the Police catch in their 'raids' are the ones who have just arrived in Pattaya, the ones who have just fell out of bed and are late, hence missing the warnings in advance, because even though they are late, the most important thing for them to do immediately,is to go sit at a food stall, eat, and shoot the breeze.

These are the dumb bastards that get lifted, remembering that these guys are not rocket scientists! :laughing3:

If they catch too many,it looks bad as that means loss of face as the local chief has allowed crime and drugs to spiral out of control, so the odd ten lads with 200 baht playing cards, the odd ugly ladyboy with a couple of Yaa Baa, and a sprinkling of 16/17 year olds does the trick and everyone is happy. The odd foreigner is a bonus in all sense of the word! :headbang:

Perspicacious indeed Kevin. Lifting the skirts of farang naivete is a much-needed crusade.
The Rocket Scientist dynamic is played out in small towns like Hua Hin as well. Continually.

There's never a dull moment in LOS, particularly Pattaya!

I recently visited Pattaya after not being there for a few years, using the word "dull" is being kind as for the pool it looked vert nice a good place for solitude, there was no one ever there am sure someone will be happy to let you pay as you go they just might be startled to actually see someone there.
