Does anyone have any recommendations, please? I may be heading there in June. I can do all the Google and Tripadvisor checks, etc., but any personal recommendations would be gratefully received.

I have twice gone to the Phi Ta Khon festival held in Dan Sai, Loei Province ...... an absolute must for anybody who has a list of festivals to attend in Thailand ......readers can GOOGLE it to learn more ......... . the first time we stayed at the Loei Palace Hotel in Loei City ......... multiple star, best hotel in the province, but long drive each day to the festival .... my recollection is that it was more than an hour's drive to Dan Sai -- each way ........ second time stayed at a rural resort which was quite idyllic, good food, wonderful staff, garden bungalows .......... Leelawadee Resort ........less then half hour from Dan Sai

Just found this web site with a list of places to stay near Dan Sai-- good place to start your search.

I don't know about hotels in Dansai, but you might want to look at www.hotelsguidethailand.com (http://www.hotelsguidethailand.com). I've found it to be a very useful website for finding hotels in Thailand (particularly in smaller cities) (defaults to Thai, you might want to switch to English first). It lists 10 places in Dan Sai (I searched for Loei province first, then by name for Dan Sai (it's not in any of the drop down lists). Not sure who runs this website, maybe other SGTers can enlighten me?
