Uni student going to LOS in january was upset when I advised him not to take his new Iphone with him. I told him it would very attractive for theft, as he does like to show off his toy when drunk. I usually take an old mobile with me and but a simcard at the 7/11.

He protested he has to have his phone to use Grindr. I have heard little about Grindr in LOS and would asume that if it is used it would be mainly Thais looking for Thais not farang.

Several Thai students here have told him to ignore Gayromeo and use Camfrog. I have installed camfrog but have given up trying to use/understand it.

However as a 20yo I can see no need for for him to use electronic aids. I am sure he will get an abundance of sex without cost at Discos and saunas in BKK and Pattaya.

Yep, farang neighbors actually introduced it to us. We don't use it anymore, because it's boring for us now, but there was about a 3 week phase where we used it lots. It's actually really easy though. When you create your account, select Thailand as your location. When you login there'll be a Thailand tab for you, which lists all the available rooms, like "Gay Essan Plaza" for example. Just click on any of the rooms to join, and on theright hand side of the room, you'll see a list of everyone in that room. Click on anyone in that list, and you'll see them on their web cam. Right click, and you can chat with them. Then if you have your web cam on, everyone can see you too.

No need to refrain from bringing your main phone if you're careful keeping it secure. I never worry about theft.

Yeah, but your staff can't fire you, just like my contractors can't fire me. That, and people are intrinsically greedy, and I'm extremely good at what I do. Never thought about that, but it's probably true. I'd be curious to see what my family & friends back in Canada think when they see me again. If you live in Thailand long enough, I don't think you have a choice, but to strip yourself of all the bullshit baggage you bring as a Westerner. Well, whatever you do Matt, don't ever lose your self-awareness. It's great to lose some inhibitions, which serve no benefit but remain keep your self-awareness and judgement! Also, be aware of the type of Thais you hang around because Thailand is not entirely comprised of the Isaan folk with poorer means you describe, as much as we love them.

Grindr is a free app (also available now on an Android phone) Most using it in LOS are looking for friends. Grindr makes it possible to chat, post pictures. It shows how far away another user is from you. If you want to show your current location you can drop a pin on your exact location. HOWEVER, a USA iphone must be jailbroke to use a Thai sim card. In Pattaya, TukCom shops do it for 500 baht. A sim card to handle data is about 599 a month. Most Grindr users are under 40 in LOS

When I was in Thailand I used Grinder, recon, gayromeo and the gaydar app. I mostly got messages from guys on holiday in Thailand and only a few Thai guys. I didn't meet anyone from grinder only because I was making friends so fast and easy.

Seems there were a lot of guys in relationships looking for a 3rd but I didn't want to be the filler in a May/December sandwich.

One thing about that Iphone is that I once used up 1000 baht of phone time in 2 days because I kept forgetting to turn off my internet on the phone.

You have to be careful of that on any smart phone. Not sure what international roaming data rates are like in the US but here in Australia it's astronomical... something like $10/mb.

I have a friend who ran up a bill of several thousand dollars in data roaming just for a bit of e-mailing and internet browsing while he was overseas. When I go overseas I have both local data and roaming data turned off via my provider and I turn off data on my phone too. It sucks that roaming is so costly.

Hmmm.... by the minute. That's strange. That'd be annoying having to turn your mobile internet on and off all the time, if that's the way it works.
