View Full Version : Anyone know the scene in Shanghai?

September 26th, 2010, 23:23
I will be making my first visit to Shanghai.
Anyone been there who can help?
Where to go in terms of meeting guys, customs regarding tipping, etc.?
I imagine there are ATM's at the airport?
Experiences you have had there?
Thanks.

i've been to shanghai...
it's pretty conservative but there's a decent gay scene.
i was there on business and only had one night to play.
we went to a bar called eddy's and a club called 4x i think.
i don't remember the name of the part of town but it
was near downtown near the river.

of course there are atm's everywhere. signs are in english
but not many locals speak much english. traffic is insane...
worse than bangkok. one taxi driver nearly killed us.

i was with a group of mostly white guys and a couple of
black guys from the U.S., and we had a few locals want to
take pictures with us when we were out in the city. kind of crazy.

at a restaurant eating dinner with my black friend and some
others, we waited and waited for the waitress to come over
and kept feeling ignored. she never approached the table and
we couldn't figure out why. finally after probably 20 minutes
we left the restaurant. later we figured out that the waitress
didn't approach because we didn't call her over. i guess it's
considered rude to approach the table unless you wave them
over. we thought they were refusing to wait on the westerners
or maybe didn't like the big scarey black guy. we were wrong.

huge city. amazing mega-malls like all over asia. but striking
contrast betweet ultra high society and poverty stricken areas
often across the street from each other.

food was amazing. people are friendly but a little stand-offish
towards westerners. tons of shopping. and lots of cute boys!

Thanks for the good info.
I will be sure to call the waiter or waitress over!
