Well that didn't last long. Gay Thailand has decided to keep the Board as is ... i.e. not have it as a part of a porno site. GT pays attention to commentary on the various Boards regarding his latest nonsense. But he's selling it to ... ?? Then ~ on the cusp: A buyer leaves him high and dry.
Gay Thailand (Himself) will remain as a consultant with presumably the consultancy fees to match, and has decided not to blow 10-14 thousand bucks on the place which it badly needs (so says he)!! I wonder of Spike ever gave thought to blowing that much money on a renovation?

Gay Thailand doesn't seem to know which way to turn: keeping up the GayThailand Board means that Gaybutton's board is in addition to GayThailand, rather than a replacement. Are that many really needed?
Are there personal machination going on behind the scenes? A Baht Stop poster seems to think so. Will LMTU get the scoop on the Real Story? Will anyone believe him?

Weirdness trundles on down the yellow brick road in the the world O' Gay Boardieland in LoS.

The GayThailand.com board is here to stay. We will not be moving the url or the forum. All posts will stay in place. Nothing will go anywhere.

When I made the post a few days back, I thought that the move was a good move. After listening to the comments of many on the board who were not happy with the site being transferred over to a new domain, I was in contact with a guy in the USA who has offered to buy the site several months ago. We were close to a deal when I was in the USA but it fell through. But, in the end, this is a better move for me than to get members upset and it is a great way to enhance the Gay Thailand community of forums.

The money was deposited in escrow for the site and the paperwork is being sent to me; I hope to have this deal finalized soon. I'll then hand over the reins to a great couple that will be great running the board.

I will be staying on as a very active poster on this site and help in anyway I can to continue its growth. I know the new owner will want to make some changes to the site but my understanding is that these changes are to the front end of the website and not the Forum part of the site. The front end of the website is where the most traffic comes as many guys use it on a daily basis for finding a lover / BF / etc. The code that was written for the front end is out of date and old and needs a major revamp. Part of my reservation in continuing the site was putting another 10-14k into the site. I am not a programmer and thus can't fix things on the fly. The new owner's lover is much more computer savvy than I am and this will be easier for him.

Again, I want to thank everyone for making this site so great. I appreciate all the posters and participants.

If I owned gaythailand.com, guaranteed it'd be a full-on dating site right now, with AI-based bots that geoIP your city, and contact you loads via e-mail, IM, hugs, etc... I'd scrape every profile in GayRomeo, so there'd be loads of delicious Thai guys contacting you almost immediately!

Of course, you'd have to pay to chat back to them... too bad there isn't enough money in it to make it worth while.\

Actually, might almost have to do that. Already have the software for it, just have to scrape profiles from GayRomeo, get a design, and put in the campaigns. Good customer base. A bunch of half-dead horny guys, who can barely use a computer. They login, and up pops a message from blondie saying he loves them, but they can't reply until they dish out their credit card. I should almost check out what type of traffic there is for gay thailand, or even thailand sex in general...

Its not that hard to set-up a "dating" or social networking website using free open source software such as Joomla or Drupal. Its also pretty easy to add a forum to it, phpbb or other. You can also merge an existing database of users of one site with a new different website. I know how to do that. I have no idea why anyone would pay a 5 digit price tag to have some geek (like me) do such a thing. It isn't going to buy you page rank, back links or Alexa rank. More importantly it will cost you credibility and the trust of your members.

The issue is that most people (myself included) do not want to be merged.

This site will remain a forum, and a free and open one, as long as I own it. It is available for sale as is to the right buyer for around the price that gaythailand.com is paying for its "upgrade" though.

Except it'd be a hunk of shit that you couldn't monetize. I'm talking about quite a bit higher quality, and trust me, there's loads of money in dating. That's why all the big guys in the porn industry have already moved into dating. There's millions upon millions being made in it, but money from porn itself is drying up now due to all the free stuff available.

When you signup to a large dating site, there's a good chance you'll get contacting by loads of "bots", and every message they send you will be targeted directly for your age range and geographic region. A 50yo in Houston will have a totally different experience than a 20yo in New York. If you reply to the bots, they'll scan your message for keywords & phrases, then reply accordingly. Lots of companies have dropped loads of money into this type of thing, and that's why they're currently making millions.

Again though, I just don't think there's enough money to do Thailand as a niche though.
