View Full Version : reasonable priced drinks

When reading this and other forums, I often come across the beef about rip-off prices in bars.
I was wondering what most members feel is a reasonable price for a beer or soft drink in a Go Go Bar without a show and what is a reasonable price if there is a show presented?

August 1st, 2010, 03:36
Krazy Dragon and Happy Boys at the moment are in the range of 89-99 bht. for any drink...There used to be a significant price difference between Boystown and Sunnee. Now there is little or no difference....

Sorry - I don't get it -

I have paid in excess of 200B in boyztown go-go bars for a spirit and mixer so if you are saying that KD is charging 99B then how is there "little difference"? It's less than half price!

Also I believe KD does a bottle of 100 pipers for around 500B some nights - which you would pay 1500-2000 for in some of the bars in Boyztown. Thats 1/3 to 1/4 the price so it seems to me there's a VAST difference.

Having said that, no amount of money saving offers would encourage me to sit in KD for any length of time as the boys are simply not to my taste unfortunately.

I am however keen to visit the Corner Bar - I'm in the market for a new sporran and I hear there's a Corner Bar customer wears one as a toupee. I'm thinking of snatching it off his head and pressing it into use with my kilt

I agree,Boyztown is more.I once paid 600 baht for fried rice with an egg on top.The waiter was cute.....so almost worth it.

I know what the prices are,
I do not ask for that information.

In marketing is the concept of the right price. it is a price you feel is good value for your money.
When you feel you pay the right price for a drink you are willing to order a seccond drink or willing to order a drink for a boy, without the feeling of being ripted of. A lot of people complain about bars charging to much.

What I like to know which amount you are comfortable with paying for a soft drink or a beer in a gogo bar. Not what is being charged.
For a soft drink is it 60 70, 80, 90 100, 110, 120, 130, 150, 180, 200, 250 Baht?
For a beer is it 60 70, 80, 90 100, 110, 120, 130, 150, 180, 200, 250 Baht?

Reasonable prices ...

No show = 100 Baht

With show = 45 Baht

Yes, they can shove their shows where the sun don't shine.

Gorcum, in this case the salient question is: what is there in the Boyztown "offer" that you cannot get in Sunee (no more than 10 min away) which would encourage a customer to pay 2, 3, or 4 times the price?

Sunee is undeniably "sleazy" in general - but you know how some queens wallow in that anyway. Is it worth the extra to avoid the sleaze or is the sleaze an added bonus on top of the cut price drinks? - that's the debate

I don't mind paying 150 for a beer if there is a show but if I want to have three drinks (which is easy in a 1 hour show) why should I have to pay for the show three times when a customer who sits with a diet coke through the whole thing only pays once. Subsequent drinks should be cheaper say 100. Bar owners are going to have to wise up in these straightened times .the best value drinks are at the Come In bar in sunnee. 65 for a singha yenyen

Well why not talk about the show at Copa. You obviously would prefer to go to Sunee as you obviously wallow in that

If DJ Station can supply drinks at 100 bht per drink for a beer, who also have entertainment, then I'm sure other bars can in Pattaya like BBB, Copa, and so forth. However, as I'm sure the owners of BBB (the Scots guy) and Copa (Peter is it?) will tell you - its all about running a business and making money for that business, they are not running a charity and the more money they can make the more they will do.

Yeah but that's a totally different business model. They get 100 guys in there on weeknights. 200-300 on weekend nights. All they have is one show, which goes for about 30 mins. And that's not the main attraction of the place...

When I get to YOUR age and state of dementia, perhaps my idea of an evening out will be watching the show at the Copa every night (not realising that I saw the same show yesterday). But as I hope never to sink to your level, I prefer to vary the venues I frequent.

Contrary to your assumption, I spend little time in Sunee but that does not prevent me knowing that the prices are far cheaper there. I have seen shows in Sunee which although not as "lavish" as can be seen in Copa are just as entertaining if not more so.

Finally, "wallowing" is something I associate with hippopotamuses - in which case (from what I hear) it would be a far more apposite term when applied to yourself.

That's all.

For what it's worth, I suspect what a short term visitor is happy to pay for a drink is very different to someone who lives here - which is why I don't understand why places like Copa and BBB don't introduce a locals discount card of say, 25%. I for one would visit Boystown more, in addition to my usual favourite spots in Jomtien.

Great idea - let's rip off the tourists even more - none of them will notice you're paying 25% less on you bills, right? Especially when there's a dispute and there's some pissed up ex-pat shouting about not getting his 25% residents discount.

Why not take it further - give a discount of 75% to Thais and 50% to all other SE Asians. Pakistanis and the like can have 40%

What do you think?

I think 100 Baht for basic drinks like water, coke, beer etc is a good price. More for something more upscale. At 100 Baht I would likely order a second drink and would not hesitate to buy a drink for a boy to sit with me. 150 Baht would discourage further spending.

I think that plaes that insist on punisihing us with a caberet should sell a book of 3 tickets at the door for 300 Baht. You get 3 drinks of whatever. Sorry for those who only drink soft drinks but they still take up a seat and need a glass and a waiter.

Some bars (noteably in BKK) just charge a flat fee per drink irrespective of whether its Coke or Chivas Regal. I've had some great laughs watching a would-be cheapskate turn up 3 minutes before the show, order a glass of water, and get their 250B bill stuck in their bin.

Its really simple. The rent is more expensive by far then Sunee on Walking Street and probably more then Pattayaland 1 and 2

Yet the prices on Walking street are far less for drinks. The only reason is Gay Bars are ripping us off and or don't know how to run a business.

IMHO its a combination of both for 95% of the GoGo Gay Bars.

A few years ago when business was good, some businesses in Boystown followed a business model that didn't want cheap charlie locals as they were full every night with tourists paying top whack. This is a perfectly valid model and worked well.

However given the current financial situation coupled with web dating then the model no longer works anything like as well. The model needs to be changed - dramatically, not just fluffed with around the edges. Haven't really seen much evidence of that though as yet.

If you can't afford these bars tough.

If you think the are too expensive stay away.

If you think you can do better then open your own bar and we can all sit back and watch your savings dwindle.

Whatever you decide to do stop being a bunch of tightfisted winging pomms. :headbang: :headbang:

I quite agree, if you do not want to pay the prices that various bars charge, the solution is simple, don't go in them! instead, sit outside a nice Family Mart or 7/11 and drink cheap beer with the othe dossers in the soi, who knoes, maybe a passing tourist may throw you a 10 baht coin, or even a 20 baht note, and then you can restock, naff c**t heaven for people like you, for god's sake get a life, and please stop posting crap like that in the future, i have already wasted 3 precious minutes of my life reply to your post, which is about as much time it would take me to cum watching a very nice porn movie!

I love how so many on this board claim to be so wealthy (ceo, own a business, know the president of GM, etc) that when they come to Thailand they can throw their money around like they print it. The fact of the matter is most on this board need to save many months before their trip and are on a budget. I would go so far to venture that most on this board have not been to Thailand in years and follow this board to keep up on happenings going on there. The prices in Thailand have skyrocketed in the last few years, so if someone mentions cost increases I don't think anyone has justification to ridicule them. Expats living in Pattaya are some of the cheapest people I know, wonder why their so cheap with their money?
