I have come across Nop, primarily when he was taken under the wing of Monty and some other guests at Monty's guest house. After several years Monty lost patience with Nop who had very poor adherence to the medicine regimen he was on and the fact that a side effect of the medicine seemed to be kleptomania. Monty and others paid for Nop's blood tests and some other medical treatment but I think it is his lack of adherence and discipline which causes Doctors and sponsors to give up on the quest to keep Nop alive.
I am surprised he has managed to survive thus far considering his very poor state of health a few years ago.

Bob,

I am saddened to learn of Nop's tragic life story...very sad indeed!

You are to be applauded for doing the human caring of him...not easy..
but sometimes we all are faced with difficult choices...and you are doing
the best you can for him by showing caring compassion for him.

This recommendation is probably what you do not want to hear...
and having just read the posting by puckered penguin...
as I prepared to post this reply...
I wonder whether it will do any good....

I find your comments about Dr. Philippe most disturbing. He is the one who I
would urge you to see once again...start anew with him...and he now has more
and more credibility with the Thai authorities...due to his many years in serving and treating Thais with HIV...he may be the key to Nop's gaining his ID card back again..
and get low cost or free meds as well in treating him.

Dr. Jureatt, who is associated with Dr. Philippe, is at Chonburi Government Hospital...in Chonburi City...and she would also be a good resource of help with Nop. She worked miracles in our helping Somporn when he needed a kidney transplant many years ago.

I assume you are in Thailand? Where might I ask?

If in the Bangkok or Pattaya areas, my bf will be pleased to assist..free.. with transportation of you and Nop to see Dr. Philippe.

Although, Nop may not be willing to "follow the regime" for care ???
as before with Monty??? Sounds like you do have a big problem!

In any event...trying to help Nop save himself...and get him the treatment he needs..
is most important now...not personalities...and past issues.

How about a Temple who is known for Hospice care and HIV/AIDS inflicted Thais?
Have you explored that possibility? I believe there are several Buddhist temples
which do offer such aid to Thais...I have read about them from time to time.

Let me know how we can help.
I do hope you find the help you need....take care!

Bob,

One more thought and idea...

Might I suggest you contact Thais4Life...ask them for their help...
maybe they can assist with the issue of Nop's ID ??? and in gaining the
medical care he needs most.

I believe Wally is in Australia now...He may have returned..not sure...???
but David, owner of Oscars Bar in Boyztown..and to be new Piano Bar Manager of LeCafeRoyale are two of the key men heading up Thais4Life now.

When Thais4Life was founded about 7 years ago...by three of us ...Wally, Allen (the Gay Pattayan, and me...it was established to assist needy Thais with their medical care...
"who fell through the cracks" of available government care...and needed help.

Since that time, the government has made available the so called 30 baht health care plan...but still there are needs to be met...especially with extraordinary situations.

Talk with David...just maybe Thais4Life can help ...or find help...with their contacts... through the bureaucratic mess of gaining back Nop's ID card...and get him care..
IF Nop is willing to do his part..in following the treatment plan for his life.

What a sad story!

I wonder what Thai people do when they loose their ID-card, in general.
And can Nop take the same steps get a new ID-card?

If they lose their ID card, they simply go to any police station and make a statement that it is lost. They then take that statement to any district administration office and they get a new ID card on the spot, while they wait.

It isn't quite that simple. Every Thai is recorded (or should be) in a Blue House Book - The book is blue, not the house - and this is usually the book of the parents house when the kid is born.

This is a persons "official" address, and should be changed when they move on a permanent basis. The blue book is the usual documant that must be shown when getting a new id card (a Thai passport is an alternative) and this is why most bar boys have to go home when they loose their id card - to get the blue book.

At age 15 a Thai should go with their blue book to get their first id card.

No blue book entry, you don't officially exist. It would take quite a bit of research I suspect to trace back to the original blue book that Nop was recorded in, if it still exists, but it might be done with the help of a friendly local government official and suitable inducements.

lovathai,

If all that stands between Thop receiving the medical treatment he needs and his life threatening illness is a plastic card - then I suggest you get the plastic card. You can have a phony ID made for less than 1,000 baht - which is common practice in LOS. Normally I would never suggest doing anything illegal - but if this is a matter of life or death for the young man.,..fuck it...just get the card. I have no idea if this fake ID would make it past the scrutiny of a hospital or not, but it's certainly worth a try. Talk to one of the seasoned mamasans in Sunee...tip her 1,000 baht as well and tell her you want a professional job and are willing to pay an extra 1,000 baht for the card. FYI...most of the boys who purchase fake ID's only pay 200 baht - but they are poor quality.

If you have troubles with this and haven't had any luck between now and the end of September - I will do this for you. I arrive in LOS on Oct 01. Just PM me and I will give you my mobile number.

You have a good heart and I wish you the best of luck.

Yeah, I don't get it. Wouldn't he have needed something to get back into Thailand when he was deported from Sweden?

And why would going to Sweden on a false passport several years ago prevent him from getting a Thai ID card now? Especially since he had to come back in anyway.

Fake Thai ID cards and driving licences won't do you any good at all. They might pass scrutiny by the average man in the street, but will not get you past or through a computerised government office.

From reading the sad tale of your friend, unless he can prove who he is, which could take valuable time that he might not have, then the only other road might be to buy the HIV medication. Again you need to approach those in the know or who may be able to help you as mentioned earlier.

Good Luck to you.

Have someone contact 'Wat Phrabatnampo-Center of Hope' in Lopburi to see what their ID requirement is.

That place is mostly a dignified place for people to die.

Unlike SGT, which is a place for undignified people to come to die.
