Anyone stayed there lately? Whats the difference between the standard and deluxe rooms besides 200baht?

I like the location close to Patpong and close to babylon...

Thanks

many threads about the Malaysia and usually starts heated argument between the pros and the cons.. The cheapest rooms have no TV ...

the pros work the coffeeshop after hours, the cons work the taxi rank outside, but sometimes the pros are cons as well and there is not a taxi in sight to make a quick escape!

Whay not ask the hotel?

I think the difference is the size of the cockroaches. In the deluxe rooms, you get deluxe cockroaches, which have all been screened by the management in advance. Standard room = standard cockroaches. If you're lucky, you'll stay there on the day they do their yearly bug spraying; they use about 1/4 can for the entire hotel, on a yearly basis.

I was lucky, when I stayed there, it was vacuuming month.

And bkkguy, that was pretty funny!

very clever response and man oh man can this forum use some clever and intelligent responses..One of the things I like about the Malaysia are the pros who work the coffee shop and the ledge late at nite..You can take them or leave them but it is nice to have the option..

Another good thing about about the Malaysia is that if a guest is too rude or obnoxious the staff will ask him to leave. That keeps with filth out.

Now, now, be nice, Silom dear. The Malaysia is not the kind of hotel that hi-so davidcal would stay at anyway. They don't allow pets either, do they?

October 27th, 2005, 22:46
You want to take a pet? The Oakwood Apartments take pets. It's actually not a bad deal. But there are lots of breeders around with little spoilt Asian kids.

My dog took a big dump by the pool.

Any guesses if I cleaned it up or not?

The furniture in a deluxe room looks like stuff you would find in a second-hand store. The furniture in the standard room looks like stuff you see sitting on the curb OUTSIDE the second hand store.

The Malaysia is like a sea side boarding house in Torquay - complete with ...ahem ...also candy floss in the bar - is it still there? I was told that it had been moved on

I am sorry to hear you have had a bad experience at Malaysia Hotel. I was greeted by a nice person at the desk who stuck a straw in a little plastic cup of water and set before me. My room overlooked the pool and had nice tv, which I really never got around to turning on. The pool had a man cleaning and testing water every morning. It was sparkling. There was computer to use in the lobby for a few bhat. It is wihtin walking distance to Babylon. There are at least two nice restaurants close. I have heard some say bar boys don't like to go there, just glad they were not the ones I met. I will stay there agian. Not posh but a very nice place.

How many people complain about the Malaysia and then stop at it, believe me, for the price, what more can you expect. Fine, you can go to the Pinnacle for an extra few hundred baht, your choice. But the Malaysia has some very good points about it.

With regard to the rooms, here goes:

Standard - is without a TV

Superior - is with TV

DeLuxe - is with carpet and TV (give the carpet a miss)

It is best to ask for a single room (that's if you are travelling on your own and don't have a partner to share your room with), as opposed to double, all rooms have at least one double bed in them anyway, and the only difference being is that you pay an extra 100 bht per night if you book double. If you dont say anything they generally assume you want a "double" and hence charge you. With regard to bringing trade back, they don't even ask whether you have "single" or "double".

Some of these comments are tacky but what can one expect from queens. I, personally, like the Malaysia. The rooms are fine. Especially those overlooking the pool. Staff is great.

I thought it was interesting, I met someone close to Silom Monday. He asked "Where you stay?". When I said Malaysia, his answer "Oh you stay at a gay hotel.". That says it all. For me, very gay friendly. Plus, just a short walk to the MRT or you can always catch a meter taxi on the street and be at Patpong in 10 minutes.

October 28th, 2005, 11:24
I have never been able to find a room when I inquired at Malaysia, they seem to be always full, sometimes for weeks on end. On the other hand, the more expensive Pinnacle Hotel generally has available rooms, but I find the staff to be somewhat prickly.

October 28th, 2005, 16:18
Yes, the place is very popular! Amazing for a place where no one would be caught dead, isn't it?

(Bing, you traitor! Get with the program! Lie! Mention rude reception, man-eating rice-bugs, stinky drains, mildewed carpet, lumpy matress, slow elevator, broken everything; especially those horrible, horrible hooker boys right in the front yard--And how teddibly annoying when they say, "Hello. You so handsome man. I want...go you!)

Re the "thrift shop" furniture: If that's the case, Tarntawan must buy their rejects.

October 28th, 2005, 18:38
This hotel is generally fully booked at peak times of the year, and probably when it is not peak, it is very cheap and very popular. The reason behind this is because people book and don't turn up - if you cannot get a room, if you ring them up and put your name on the waiting list, this usually does the trick, especially in the low season. You can book direct with them over the internet. And remember you can always give a guessimate of your dates, then fine tune it when you have your "dates".

I know that even the bar boys curl their lip if they hear you are staying there.

A friend rang from there this morning and tells me that his young Thai friends ( not service workers ) refuse to even meet him at The Malaysia as it has a certain reputation.

The Makaysia is geatured heavily in the Loneley Planet"South East Asia on a shoestring" edition

Its placed as mid range hotel for the backpaacker who has more money than his unwashed counterparts and doesn't want to stay on KSR...

I would guess this is where a lot of their booking come from...

There is no mention in LP of the trade...

I have never stayed there (always full when i enquire)Biut i have gone back there many times after a night out in Bkk..

When my BF stays in Bkk he stays there (its close to the Irish embassy and of course Babylon)

I have not tried the hotel, but the above comments would not put me off a stay as long as:

1 The hotel is clean.
2 After curling their lips, the bar boys agree to go to the hotel with you.

Maybe the boys think customers who stay in budget hotels pay budget tips.

There wouldn't be

Since the last posting about it is 2005 I can tell you it has changed considerably. I have stayed there many times and will do so in December. I have never found it unclean. Minimum price is 880B - not for backpackers

If you really want an up to date discussion on the Malaysia Hotel, start a new thread and we'll go through it all again just for you.
You've resurected a thread from 2008 that Lonely Wombat resurected in 2008, from 2005.
I thought you already mentioned that you are fully booked into there already? Are you trying to feel good that you made the right choice or are you seriously considering changing that booking based on the information you receive? I've been staying there on my short term Bangkok visits since the early nineties and very little has changed over the years....including the staff.

What's this got to do with the blue moon comment?

SGT is the only forum I've been on today.

High gear? I look at GTT occasionally.

Business is going fine thanks. But the day is over. I'm kicking back, watching some telly, having dinner, enjoying a tasty cold beer (if only Thai monks could brew like the Belgium monks do) and doing some leisurely browsing about the net at the same time. Got a problem with that?
