It can all get confusing with every province having a capital city with the same name..
Pattaya has special designation as a political/geographical entity but lies within Chonburi
province.. It also has Pattaya police, Chonburi police and even BKK police making visits
every so often and each is different.. Even has farang police and farang informants..

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning."

It's really getting rather exciting and I'm missing all the fun. I simply love times of crisis! Damn it all! Just my luck not to be there and miss out on it all.

Fierce Clashes Underway Between Protestors And Thai Troops

May. 13, 2010, 11:50 AM (New York Time)

Thailand's central security apparatus, the The Center for Resolution of Emergency Situations (CRES) has announced a state of emergency for fifteen provinces in Central, North, and Northeastern Thailand. The declaration comes on the heels of red shirt protest leaders in Bangkok calling for their supporters in surrounding provinces to head into the capital city and support the movement.

Fierce clashes are now underway between protesters and soldiers near Lumpini park.

UPDATE: CRES just added another 15 provinces to the state of emergency, bringing the total to 30 out of Thailand's 75.

UPDATE: One Thai red shirt reported dead, shot in the head. CNN has reported this as well. According to @journotopia, Reuters is pulling all if their people out of the area since it is getting too dangerous.

UPDATE: Things may have cooled for a moment as below. Bangkok Post reports at least ten protesters wounded and describes the clash as 'provoked' by the protesters.

what does that mean to Pattaya??

It means stay away from city hall, and if you happen to see hundreds of people wearing red on a street, turnaround and go the other way.

I will indeed take your advice. Just hope they stay out of Sunee Plaza and Jomtien Complex

Surely it means at least a battalion of handsome Thai soldiers patrolling the streets of Pattaya? Those I've seen on TV from BKK could frisk me anytime!

Ok Gentlemen an on the spot report.

1. No red shirts at City Hall - all in Soi Day night where there campaign HQ and radio station is based.

2. There is no difference on the streets, no army, no big contingents of Police that I have seen.

3. The emergency decree DOES allow authorities to take extra action if required. In this case one of the points is that the Army can stop red shirts from gathering and going to reinforce Bangkok - that is a key point.

4. It IS impossible to say what will happen next. Common sense says stay vigilant and avoid being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

My office, like all other businesses is open as usual. But see point 4!

Soliders On Patpong Distracted By Shirtless Movement

PATPONG тАУ Infantrymen assigned to Patpong were reported to be fatigued and on edge after spending much of last night keeping a close eye on the shirtless movement that took over the soi.

The shirtless movement began slowly around 8pm and then peaked around 11pm with many taking off and putting on their shirts in rotating 20-minute shifts, a tactic that appeared to frustrate the soldiers. Around midnight, the situation grew even more tense when soldiers were alerted of a panty-less gathering halfway down the street.

The soldiers, some of them young conscripts from outside Bangkok, had shown great perseverance and would remember this test of their training for years to come, said senior military officials.

тАЬIt takes a brave man to stand outside Super Pussy for hours without so much as flinching,тАЭ said Captain Piyat Weesakul of the 4th Infantry Division. тАЬThese boys may have woken up a bit randy this morning but they served their country well.тАЭ

тАЬThis is a dream come true,тАЭ said one 21-year-old conscript, тАЬBring it on.тАЭ

The army appears unconcerned that the shirtless movement will escalate tensions further in Bangkok but said action would be taken if necessary. тАЬIf they take to the streets we will have no other choice but to handcuff them,тАЭ said Captain Piyat.
