SIM CARD

A friend of me come back from a journey to Thailand en bought there for me a simcard 12call for my mobile phone. Next week I'll be in Pattaya. Can I use this card in any phone? He said something about only in "oldfashioned Phones". I can't imagine this to be true.
Does someone have experiences?

I always use a 12call SIM card in my Nokia with no problems. As long as the mobile is "unlocked" ie not tied to one mobile network. If it is you can get it unlocked in Thailand all over the place.
