I've never met such racist people as the Thais. I'm black and they turn up their noses at me. I couldn't find a drag queen to "top" me even though everyone told it it would be really easy. I'm never going back.

Well, if you're the real Sooty you've had a fist up your arse for the last 61 years. No wonder nobody would fuck you.

Maybe Sweep will give you a wank if you ask him.

I think it might be more (natural) personal preference than deliberate racism.

Ask Buck N Away for advice... he's black right?

Its trueтАж most Thai people refer to blacks as that тАЬChocolate guyтАЭ The Thai boys I know stay clear of Chocolate guys and Indians from India. They are a bit racists, but remember where they adopt this attitude from. They see Blacks as coming from Africa and working the jobs that Thais donтАЩt want to do.. Cleaning bathrooms, streets, doing dishes, garbage cans ectтАжтАж If you can pull it off without looking ridiculousтАж.. You may want to dress slightly Hip-Hop or Euro Hip there is more respect given in the eyes of Thais if your not from the south, Muslim, Burma, India ect. . One other important note, unlike in America, there is no guilt in being a racist. Therefore no need to pander to certain classes.

Garbage by the OP and garbage in the responses. Since when did Africans take jobs Thai don't want to do? How many Africans are working as garbage collectors or toilet cleaners? Zero is my guess. And I've never yet heard a Thai refer to a black person as "chocolate" but most often as "Konh peu dum" (a black skinn d person). If your uneducated money boy friends talk like that then you've made a poor choice of friends. Thais do see white skin as more beautiful than black skin, a well known fact.
The fact that the OP coundn't get a drag queen to top him probably says as much about his manners and behaviour as it does about his chosen sexual partner.

Given their innate jingoism and the deeply inculcated pride in their heritage, I don't think it occurs to any Thais to relate themselves to people of African descent. They are not, therefore, using those whitening creams to distinguish themselves from Africans. Rather, I've always understood that the popularity of those cosmetics is less a symptom of racism than of simple inter-Thai class snobbishness. Making your skin look less dark prevents, so buyers of whitening creams think, any suspicion that they might be Isaan peasants who've been working long hours in the fields harvesting rice (no doubt with the help of the proverbial sick buffalo) and thus acquiring that characteristic deep mahogany sun-tan.

However, the OP is correct that the Thais are also an intrinsically race-aware and racist society. And, pace FOF above, I regularly hear Thais referring to black people as "chocolate": a friend of mine who is a frequent customer for DVDs on Jomtien beach is, because of his specialised taste in such things, regularly approached by hawkers offering him DVDs of porn featuring, as they tell him, "chocolate" men.

Is "chocolate" more offensive than "black" or "brown" or "yellow" or "white"?

Marianne Faithful was once known as Chocolate Woman, but that was not to do with the colour of her skin, but with what she was allegedly doing with a Mars Bar.

If it's any consolation, it's not just the Thais that don't like you.

Wether you like it or not the Thais will call you a chocolate farang. Some will call you darlink..If they like or dislike you will depend on your personality. Not what colour you are.............. :nud:

Sooty, I do not doubt that you picked up on some racist vibes here; however, you have to remember that there are bias individuals in every society...even on this board. With that said, I would hesitate using such a broad brush to paint a label of тАЬracistтАЭ on any particular group of people.

I have been coming to Thailand at least twice a year since 2006. I am an African-American male and have had other African-American males of varying shapes, sizes, ages range and looks, traveling with me to Thailand. None of us have ever had issues getting action here.

Actually, I have found that my appearance (cocoa brown skin, athletic build, and under 40) worked to my advantage. I have been called тАЬChocolate ManтАЭ on many occasions and used to get offended until I stopped and listened to the rest of the phrase, тАЬChocolate Man, I want to taste your candy!тАЭ (LOL). Unfortunately, depending on the way you look, people will have their stereotypes about you. I have been dubbed the hip hop guy from NYC. I do not even like hip hop and I am NOT from NYC. But it gets me free ass and other special perks when I go with the flow.

A good friend who vacationed with me last year in Pattaya was above average in weight and 65 years old. He was getting more action from non-bar Thai guys than a lot of the other guys in our party.

I believe it has a lot to do with your personality and, in some cases, whatтАЩs in your wallet. I am very surprised that you were not able to find what you wanted here in Pattaya. Since it was your first time visiting Pattaya, I wish I had seen your original post before you arrived, as I would have offered to show you around and perhaps assisted you in finding your desired partner.

I have had several conversations with quite a few drag queens and ladyboys who told me that they like to top guys. Although, I have not had first-hand experience (and do not plan to), I find it hard to believe that your desires were not fulfilled here in Thailand.

I do hope you change your mind about coming back to Thailand in the future. If not, I hope you eventually get what you want in some other part of the world.

Best wishes...

I wonder if it was because of the caftan?

Caftan (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/gay-thailand/thai-lady-boys-t18726.html?hilit=caftan)

You did however catch a few sharp knives (as hereforme puts it) in your trollerтАЩs net.

Nice catch!

Where's Copper Pheel these days?
The script writers appear to be busy with the other characters as of late.

I know of several regulars to pattaya and chiang mai that are black and they don't seem to have a problem meeting guys. I guess it just boils down to preference. You got the money and they will come.

Wow. I am black and I found that the Thai people treated me like a celebrity everywhere I went. I wonder why I can go there with my black skin and have guys from every direction wanting to rub their body on mine and you would go there and they turn their nose up at you with your black skin.

Maybe it has nothing to do with your race or skin?

Once when I was in Pattaya walking to the Garden Mall I passed a Thai family sitting outside eating. Sitting there was a family of 4 I assume along with a grandmother. As I approached, the grandmother was bringing food to her mouth with her fingers, she looked at me as I came near, her eye lit up. Her face became that of joyous surprise and she shook with glee getting the attention of the family as she yelled out. "Chocolate man!" We all could do nothing but smile and laugh. Her eyes never left me as I passed them by. They all nodded at me and I smiled and returned the head nod.

When I finished my shopping and walked back to boyztown she again saw me and as you guessed it, she yelled out "Chocolate Man!" LOL :hello1:

Only once was I ever told by a Thai guy that he didn't like black guys. It was a guy online who told me that he was not attracted to black guys. Once I arrived in Thailand he sent me an IM on Gay.com asking to meet me for sex. I reminded him that I was black, he replied that he saw me in Silom and changed his mind. :rolling: I don't remember if I met him or not. I probably did :rolling:

Depends on who is saying it and when it is being said. Also "intent" is a big factor.

Example...
1. Oh yeah! Suck it harder! Just just a sooty little whore ain't ya?! Huh? Yeah! (That will get you some moans and grunts).
2. Ask the soot over there for directions. (That may get you killed).

'Chocolate Man', now THAT'S sweet! You must have been walking on air for awhile after that moment!

I've heard Thais described as very racist, but generally within their own culture (villagers vs Royalty, for one) and with their neighbors (Khmer Ugh!). Probably are good reasons it evolved that way, given the crowded nature of Indochina and competing, warring factions over the past couple thousand years. Probably helped to keep the cultures somewhat unique, otherwise they would have blended homogeneously over time.

My ex-thai bf always used the the term 'chocolate man' - which made my western sensibilities flinch - but it was never used pejoratively or as a negative - merely descriptive. When I pointed out his skin wasn't exactly as white (I really am lily white even after years here) as mine the reply was 'may be I milk chocolate!'

Hello

I have never been to pattaya but I am black and been going Phuket etc for years now, they do call me chocolate man and at first it set me back but really as I have got to know people I have not found it rasict otherwise I would not go back for the last 7 years. I have never had any problems picking boys up and in the end every one has their own pref whether be black, white, think, muscles.

I am spending a week in Pattaya for the 1st time in march so I will see.

Well I personally find the term chocolate man very offensive. I don't know why but many Thai's consider the blacks to be an inferior race of people. They associate blacks to be loud, arrogant, cheap, and smell bad. I've also heard that because many blacks have lips that are thicker than the norm, the Thai's do not like to kiss them. This is one aspect of the Thai culture I do not enjoy and find highly offensive, the blatant racism towards blacks. Why cannot the blacks be called farang like the rest of us? Over in the States the blacks have decided to call themselves African American which is a term I think should be adopted universally. I would never call a black man a chocolate man, that is disgusting!

I try not to put all people in one basket. There has been many a time when some Thai people I have been around complained about the Farang... The White Farang. Should I say all Thai felt as they do? No.... I have to deal with other Black Americans complaining about White American's. Should I say that all Black Americans have a negative perception of White Americans? No.

Do all gay men like big cocks? No. Do all gay may like to be top? No. Do all gay men like to be bottom? No.

If everyone thought alike or had the same wants, dislikes and feelings than there would be only one make of car that came in only one color because everyone would want the same thing. But even Toyota makes many different forms of transport in many different colors and options because we are all different.

Is Thailand racist to Black? If they are I could not tell you of one single instance where I felt as if I was being treated as if I were inferrior to anyone of another color solely based on my skin color. I can tell you that my skin color has brung me more attention than I could ever want. When I walked through Babylon a small following would trail behind me. When I went to pay my bill to leave babylon the clerk, after reading my key tag number, would pass me notes from guys I met at Babylon who told the clerk to give their note to the person with a certain key number when they went to leave babylon.

When I went to take a cab to travel, guys would jump into my cab and ask if they could go with me after asking if I was gay.... In DJ Station I can't tell you how many times my ass was pinched.. how often guys tried to get me to go with them a booth in the bathroom... Hell... My first time going to DJ Station I was standing shoulder to shoulder in the crowd only to find my zipper was pulled down and a very hot Thai guy had his hand inside feeling around! Oh and then there was the time My cab driver tried to pick me up, the time a Police officer tried to have sex with me the mens room while in Chiang Mai. The time a Hotel Bell Boy seduced me when I was checking into my room, the time I almost got raped at GSM Sauna, The time I paid for a one hour massage on the beach in Pattaya and the guy massaged me for 3 hours and I had to beg him to get off of me... His friends teased him about my long massage as well as his erection.... Then there are the times I went to GOGO bars and the guys inside begged to come with me and promised me they would not charge me simply because they wanted to have sex with a Black guy.... Hell I could go on and on but I will only say that if your looking for racism or hate than I am sure you will find it. I myself don't go out looking for anything more than the joys of life, friendship and the unknown and I find it every time :)

" ... Why cannot the blacks be called farang like the rest of us? ... "
Because, in Thai, the 'farang' designation is reserved for white folks only: it resides 'within' the Thai language itself. The fact that black folks are not referred to as 'farang' is not an indication of bias toward blacks.

ItтАЩs unfortunate Sooty had such a negative experience in Thailand. That sort of racism is always shameful behavior, but the experiences bucknaway has shared here are racist, too тАУ just on the positive side of the coin.

The people who were after bucknaway were also being racist: wishing to have a black man, buying the тАЬhave big one!тАЭ gossip, and so on тАУ but IтАЩm willing to bet it had a lot more to do with him being a pleasant, personable person (as I have been told, never met him myself).

Technically, being a Rice Queen is a form of racism, too.

IтАЩm sorry Sooty experienced racism and glad bucknaway has, tooтАж go figure!
