Whats the average price of drinks nowadays in boys town and sunnie plaza, and does any person think that we are being ripped off

Clearly the prices of drinks in the bars is a major concern to you, as you have complained about them regularly, and presumably as soon as someone responds to another thread on this topic, you will do so again. This is neither entertaining, productive, nor generally informative. The prices are what the prices are, and if you can't afford them, tough! Moaning won't change a thing.

Depends how you define "ripped off" and what you expect for your money - but since prices in Sunee can be half those in Boyztown (or less), you have the solution in your own hands if you feel that way.

I have not been there since October and will be returning in January, therefore my information is so out of date that you cannot use it.
Boyztown is more expensive than Sunee.
Bars are cheaper than go-go, no matter where you go.
If you are really looking for a cheap night, go buy you beer at a super-store and take it back to you room, little more expensive is to buy it at 7/11 or Family Mart. Then for sex use your own hand.
If you cannot afford these options, return to your country and do what you must.

i think 60 baht for a beer in a sunee host bar and 120 in a gogo are good deals. still much cheaper than back home prices in a strip club or disco.

Drink prices in the bars is only second to how to get from the airport directly to Pattaya in farang obsessiveness on this board.

I have a friend that goes on and on about prices of everything. It's like the whole concept of inflation is some big conspiracy designed to cheat him out of his money.

So in the 90's if memory serves me correct, the drink prices were around 100B and now it's 160. You do the math.

Stay at home, save your money and die a wealthy man!

If we are getting ripped off, what does the OP propose doing to achieve "fair" pricing? Stage a demonstration of placard-carrying farang senior citizens? That would be priceless, on the front page of the Pattaya Mail. As said above, prices are what they are. If that offends you, stay home.

You pay 5 euros for a beer in Spain? You need to shop around my friend.

Family Mart/7-11, small bottle of Heineken, 39 Baht. If the original poster can obtain Heineken for 6 Baht a bottle, I am sure all of the bar owners would be delighted to learn of their location, I would guess they would be sold out within the hour. Also. there is no discount from wholesalers, you pay the same price as you would in any convienience store. I still think Thailand is good value, and I think in the last Sunday Times poll, Thailand came out the 2nd or 3rd cheapest country to visit, so as the other posters have commented, if you don't want to pay the bar prices, stay at home. Question, do you post the same questions on every forum in every country you have ever visited, or just Thailand?

If you compare drink prices on the Pattaya gay scene with those in Chiang Mai or Bangkok, I'd say Pattaya comes out very favourably.

Actually about 10 euros in any venue where nice boys are available ...and off fees from 4000 baht, i wasn┬┤t talking about ordinary bars , take a peek prices might shock you lol. http://www.fotoescort.es/private/tarifas.html ( yes all night is тВм600 lol) so you still think Pattaya is expensive ?

For guys who live here, it doesn't matter what the prices are in Farangland.

Seems to me Boyztown is for tourists while Sunee is more expat oriented. Even if the prices were the same I'd prefer Sunee though.

For guys on a tight budget try Minimart 24 on Soi VC near the entrance of Sunee Plaza where cans of Archa can be had for 20 baht and bottles of club soda for 10 baht. There seating outside on real furniture and also a free toilet inside.

You can also buy bottles of SangSom. Buckets of ice are 6 baht. Loose cigarettes 4 baht. Cost effective place to hang out with farang buddies and the boys from various bars are always wandering in.

Will probably get flamed by the usual supects but it's a surprisingly pleasant place with really friendly owners. Give it a try and see for yourself.

Even if you are not a tight budget, the Minimart is a great place to hang out. Sometimes I prefer it to the bars! Always lots of activity and easy to make contact with some pretty boys who are constantly coming in and out.

It is weird about drink prices in Thailand go go bars. Coming from the West so recently, and paying for $5 beers and $8 cocktails as the norm, you get no where near a chance to watch half naked boys dancing in front of you for as long as you like. I mean, really...If you're sitting in a Manhattan or London bar dreaming of young guys swinging their members within inches of your face, would you ever think simply paying the same price as you did there for the pleasure of the eye candy? The same goes for the prices for offing and tip. Does anyone really begrudge the bar owner for charging NINE DOLLARS for having provided you with a boy for the evening, vouching for his honesty- if he rips you off or doesn't perform you report him and believe me action will be taken. Then for the boy...He goes home with $30-$50 happy as a clam when the typical Western call boy starts northward of $250???

For me, I do actually consciously try to save money and bemoan any increases. I do limit my drop ins to bars because I just can't reconcile parting with five times the retail cost of a beer to frequent go go bars that do a shoddy job of managing their charges. But then I never even had the opportunity to make any choice living in the West, whereas here I have dozens of venues to choose from every night in Thailand.

My tactic is to buy a beer to have in hand when I approach the bar, ask for a peek inside. If the action looks lively, I enter and nurse my own beer and buy a water. Sometimes the price isn't that much lower, but the bar makes a tidy profit on the water anyway so we both win. Key is to always peek in and examine the goods. It took me awhile to get the nerve up to preview the offerings, but once I did I found that simply by reducing my visits I saved money on the night.

Having said that, I doubt I'll EVER darken the door of BBB's in BKK now that they've pushed it to 200-250+...not worth it. BBB has old school farang owners who charge high rates for shitty hotel rooms and run go go bars with old guys that have been on the game way too long, from what I hear.

I know many are defending the drink prices, but personally, I find them ridiculous. This is a country where I can maintain the same standard of living as Vancouver, Canada for about 20% of the price (and even less outside of Pattaya), but yet, a small Heineken will cost me more here than in Canada?

Especially since you can goto other bars around, and get a Heineken for 60 baht, then walk into a go-go bar, and you're looking at 150 baht. That's a 250% mark-up. Talk about a slap in the face. If the bar owners charged a reasonable amount, say 80 baht, I'd be more inclined to hang out at the go-gos every once in a while, buy some boys a few drinks, throw some tip money around, etc. Instead, I just don't bother. Right now, if I go out to Sunnee for a good, care free night without thinking about money, and with no sex whatsoever, I'm looking at about 5000 baht.

As for the OP though, if you don't like the prices, do what I do. Vote with your feet and don't go. :-)

Moi aussi.. Back at home I just paid 300 Baht/drink to hear some old queens sing Hello Dolly at the piano bar. In Thailand I could have a hot naked guy sit with me for same same. It is really ridiculous.

I often ask myself is something expensive or not and I always go back to the equasion of buying power. what a pint of beer cost than and now. In 1980 a pint in London cost 35 pence. The average tradesman (electrician / Plumber ) earned 200 pounds a month take home pay.= 570 pints

In 210 a pint in london costs 3.50 pounds The average tradesman earns abut 2,000 pounds a month take home pay.
= 570 pints

Nothing much has caanged in 30 years.

Thailand

Lets take a simple bar at 60 baht a bottle. To be able to buy 570 bottles a Thai would need a salary of 34,200 baht a month
We could buy 1,833 bottles with our salary

Go Go bar at 160 a bottle Thai would need a salary of 91,000 Baht a month to buy 570 bottles
we could buy 687 bottles with our salary

I thing this speaks for itself, the answer is that drinks are overpriced in Thailand at all levels for the locals.
Dirt cheap by us Farang in a simple bar and somewhat the same price as home in the Go Go bars.

For those who object to paying the Go Go bar prices I would suggest drinking in ordinary bars and picking your boys up in the street or the beach. Downside of that is of course the possibility of taking home trouble. The go go bars do give as a bit of insurance

Take your choice

I'm not sledging you Matt, but curious (or nosy if you prefer). 5000 baht a night in Sunee with no sex involved? What on earth are you spending that much on, then?

Otherwise, on the general subject of prices, I'd say they are pretty much in line with similar places in the UK (no direct comparison, I know) at about 2.5-3x the price you'd pay in a supermarket, as far as Sunee goes. Boyztown runs to about 4x and seems to me to be becoming more of a tourist destination. Getting charged extra to be part of the show for tour groups of Taiwanese women doesn't attract, somehow. Soi Twilight prices in Bangkok are really getting off the scale now - 200 baht plus for a drink is taking the piss.

Part of the problem is exchange rates. A couple of years ago, we were getting 70 baht or so, and a 100 baht beer cost about ┬г1.45. Now, at baht 53 or so to the ┬г, its heading for ┬г2 - around a 35% increase beyond the control of the bar owners. Blame our governments for that.

Well, it's 150 baht for a beer, right? When you goto a go-go, I think it's only polite to buy a guy a drink, and give him a break from the stage, so there's another 150 baht. Then you have to tip him, so there's another say 100 - 300 baht. Then tip the bar, so another say 50 - 100 baht. That means for me to have one beer at a go-go bar, I'm looking at say 500 - 600 baht.

Then as the night wears on, you get a few drinks in you, and after dozens of gorgeous Thais have stroked your ego by saying how handsome and jai-dee you are, you're feeling pretty good, and the money starts flowing a little more freely. I know we've all been there many times. :-) This is the point in the night where you begin buying the mamasan a drink, and tipping the doorman just for being cute. So yeah, if I show up to Sunnee at say 9pm, and stay until around midnight or 1am, that's a good 5000 baht.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bitching or anything, as I don't really bother with Sunnee anymore. When I consider how much I spend at Sunnee, then think about how much that amount means to the BF and his mom, and think about how much we could do together with that amount, it's just not worth a drunken night in Sunnee. One night in Sunnee is like... 12 Thai BBQ buffets, where the BF will walk extremely quickly too, but walk very slowly afterwards with a big smile because he's so full. :-)

For a while I was going around 3am when I couldn't sleep, and didn't want to wake-up the BF... but stopped that, as Sunnee isn't a very good place at 3 or 4am. You end up with a bunch of farangs who are so drunk that you can't hold a 2 minute conversation with them. Now I just pack my laptop to one of the many 24 hour cafes / bars with free wi-fi for customers.

Maybe you don't even need the beer in your hand.

I would've thought it would be easier to just walk up empty handed and ask to have a quick look inside. I've done that a few times before. If the show's not on or it looks crap I just say I'll come back later. If you go in... just buy a beer. I've bought water a few times (because I actually just wanted some water) and I don't think it's any cheaper than a beer in a gogo bar.

BBBs is the only gogo bar in Bangkok I go to when I visit Bangkok. I just go there once to see the show because it's normally quite entertaining (although the last time was not so good... so it's starting to lose its appeal)... not so much for the boys... though it's a nice perve.

Interesting how many different (and how different) perceptions of value there are.

I will say, though... that when you buy a beer at most establishments, you are not buying the tangible drink itself... you're buying the right to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere, catching up with friends, the entertainment... or whatever else the place offers. It's not so much about the drink.

I can only talk from my own experience, but "we've" definitely not "all been there many times" (or even one time).
