Phuket tsunami alert update

PHUKET: The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a tsunami alert for Indonesia, Malaysia, India and Thailand, according to an Associated Press report.

The center issued the warning following a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.6 about 50km west of Padang in Western Sumatra at 5.16pm.

There were no immediate reports of a high waves or injuries, it added.

An officer at the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Phuket (DDPM-Phuket) said the National Disaster Warning Center had sent messages to authorities in coastal areas to prepare for a possible tsunami.

If the center confirms the approach of a tsunami, an evacuation will be ordered. тАУ Gazette Reporters

Don't know if this Earthquaketurned into a tsunami... but there was another Earthquake in the Pacific Ocean, which definitely caused a tsunami... there are locals and tourists (140 so far) killed Samoa. Don't yet know if anything hit Thailand though.

The Samoan Earthquake was around a day before the Sumatran one. There was a Tsunami warning in effect after the Samoan one that included the Cook Islands, Fiji, Hawaii and the West Coast of the USA and Canada. The Tsunami warning for the Sumatran one included Phuket. I think the danger has passed for both of these now, but both earthquakes caused death and destruction as did the resulting Tsunami in Samoa.

In Pattaya the past two mornings there has been fairly strong winds and very choppy sea, apparently from the fringe of Typhoon Ketsana. All the boats that take tourists to the islands have disappeared, probably brought ashore down past Bali Hai. There are a few small boats bobbing up and down further out and those one or two rather large top heavy appearing restaurant (or whatever) boats are still in place, but nothing near the shoreline.

The rough sea and wind has deposited an enormous amount of debris on the beach. This morning circa 8:00 several beach concessionaires had set up chairs, but only one had bothered with umbrellas. It seemed there was an overly long stretch of beach from which the chairs and umbrellas had been totally removed.

No evidence of wildlife heading for higher ground, but the ranks of female hookers was depleted.

Raining quite steadily now, but nothing extraordinary. Talked to a friend in Vientianne this morning and he was experiencing nothing more than a little rain and slightly colder temperatures.

Mainly just the female hookers.
Female hookers? They're tame compared to the yaba-fueled khatooey hookers.
