There is a minor molehill of hoopla going on right now on Baht-Stop and TingTong regarding the latest tempest going on here ~ now pretty much over ~ with our Fearless Leader ElephantSpike having made some, er, 'interesting' decisions about what Members can and cannot say in criticism of Sawatdee's advertisers ... the thread about this is in the Posting Guidelines Forum and is still there ( posting-guidelines/deletion-members-t18281.html (http://www.sawatdee-gay-thailand.com/forum/posting-guidelines/deletion-members-t18281.html) ), and is interesting in it's own right. (PattayaPassion and GayThailand are not involved in this raging storm as neither one allows even the mention of This Place to cast a shadow over their holy domains).
One criticism of Sawatdee from some of the baht stop boys goes toward the idea of Boards having advertisers in the first place: This Board has them as do TingTong, GayThailand and PattayaPassion ... Baht-Stop does not.
Message Boards do not come free. If there are no advertisers at all then the money to fund the cost of operation (i.e. domain costs, software costs, bandwidth costs etc etc etc.) has to come either out of the Owners pocket, or from Member donations, or a combination of those two (as Sawatdee was in the early days).
Purely by coincidence, over the last few weeks, when Googling for the name 'Sawatdee Gay Thailand' I've noticed an interesting link down the page a bit (Sawatdee is at no. 1 on the list) which reads "sawatdee-gay-thailand.com Estimated Worth $10154.3 USD by ...". So in light of the small controversy over how much a board owner 'makes' on his message board, I clicked on it and found the following: an estimate by an organization(?) named Websiteoutlook of how much Sawatdee is 'worth'. By plugging in the URL of each of the other Boards, the same type of estimate for them comes up.
No idea how they arrive at the figures, but there is quite a bit of other statistical stuff about each board there as well. I assume ~ for the sake of argument ~ if ElephantSpike ever got the idea to 'sell' the Board as is, he would probably ask for around the price of the estimate below.
Just kind of interesting ....
