Another fabulous 8 months in Thailand coming up here in a few days and a week from now will be lying in a beach chair, under an umbrella, mai tai in one hand and the other lying languidly on the sexy brown smooth ~ can I say 'muscular' ~ thigh (arguably his Best Part while wearing clothes) of the beloved as he ~ can I say 'lovingly' ~ ignores me while quietly singing karaoke to the beat blaring through the (noise reducing ~ AKA 'forget Smiles') headphones of MY goddamn iPod.
I will be perusing the latest copy of 'Details' (purchased here already in sweet anticipation of above) for serious reading, as well as a backup intellectual showpiece ~ AKA 'Foreign Affairs' (Sept / Oct Ed. accidently filched from my doctors office) ~ in case of a surprise meetup with an exceedingly pretentious Australian gay pseudo-intellectual ... the worst kind of that ilk.
And that would be the first day. It gets better ~ can I say 'penang goong' ~ and the music bar at Look Narm is starting to feel good, as is the discovery of which Hua Hin gay bar has closed down in the absense ... and possibly even better, which one(s) has newly opened. And further to Every Other Day and around every corner is my beloved Thailand culture shock and a 750 ml six pack of bottled water for 20 baht.

And then of course ~ can I say 'it goes without saying' ~ the icing on the cake, the creme de les cremes, the Dr Feelgood, the piece de la resistence, the summit of that mountain, Le Grand Prix, The Yellow Jersey . . . AKA falling all dreamy and stupid into the loving arms of . . . etc etc etc etc

To those guys here on the Board who might by some mistake find themselves in Hua Hin, please be advised that you are quite welcome to PM me (if you are of that mood) and we will do our best to entertain you for a night or day or whatever and perhaps show you around this little beach town. Naturally I draw the line (as you all would) at Certain Members here ~ can I say 'Bottoms Up' and 'Aunty' ~ but most normal folk are welcome any time.

Home on the ranch. Surrounded by a smattering of farang (England, America, Finland, Sweden, Australia) and a multitude of Thai folks, it's a nice take on International Living.

As usual, my legs in the air. Nosirree, it's not a Lipinzanner, it's a wide open coming home Smile.

The gracious beach of Hua Hin at it's best ... in the morning, sans farang. Six kilomters of white sand and clean ocean water.

An Umbrella, a Beachchair, a Beer, a Dog. Sounds like one of those almost-porn Peter Greenaway movies.

Damn you, you're making me almost homesick.

As to the mai tai - hardly! Likely a Chang with an outside shot at a Singha.

Fondest greetings to Khun Suphot, Khun Nu (and clan at the pool hall), the beach crew, and to anybody else that had the misfortune of letting me bother them.

Oh yea, give a can of tuna to Nam Talay for me too.

I assume the "suckers" are the folks in the Land of the Maple Leaf?

You're certainly within your weedles to be looking forward to getting back to Thailand, given the lovely household and home you've established there. I'm a couple of weeks away myself, and I find my mind drifting back to pleasant memories of people and places even more often than I do the first week or so back here in Farangland.

Not sure as I'd post a picture of my home address in these troll-infested e-waters, but you're more nervy than I am!

A safe and pleasant trip to you, Smiles. My best to Khun Pot, too. I doubt I'll be Hua Hin way this trip, but who knows?

Smiles,

What a big old softy you are!

We enjoyed meeting up with you both last year, but sadly we're no fans of Hua Hin, so I doubt we'll be back down there in the near future.

We're planing to spend most of our time in Laos this year - but would love to catch up with you if our plans cross in or around Bangkok in December. :santa:

Not in the slightest bit jealous, Smiles, honest. After all, I have an Irish winter to look forward to!

Ah just as I remember you, so, how do you stay the same age Smiles, it must be the love. I am not jealous at all. I wish you all the best. I will see you not this year but maybe the next time around. I think Borocay this year.

Cheers

Smiles, if you build it, they will come..

Have you thought about a little beer bar in Hua Hin? If that fabled ferry service
from Pattaya to Hua Hin ever reappeared, it might be a hit.
Knowing some unsavory characters will not be welcome makes it almost a sure thing..
oops, am I guilty of over-hyping and exaggerating? well, mai pen rai.

Here's hoping all Smiles dreams come true .. bon voyage.. :cat:

" ... As to the mai tai - hardly! Likely a Chang with an outside shot at a Singha ... "
That's Day 2 Bob ... I was talkiing about the celebratory Day 1.
After Day 1 I start to watch my money, and go for the Chang, or splurge on a Tiger. I'm not even close to being beer snob ... all the lager-styles taste the same to me.
But I do miss the dark ale which is everywhere in BC, and quite hard to find in Thailand. Though you can if your willing to step inside some ghastly 'Irish Pub' bar.
Cold draught beer on tap is also dearly missed, though noticed that Hua Hin seems to be getting better on that score.

Smiles,
By Tuesday afternoon I will be saying, "Whats taking smiles so long to get here", as I will be ensconced in my hotel with Bobby.

I could kick myself now for canceling Hua Hin in favour of Chiang mai. Looked at a website last week that informs me that September in Chiang mai is the wettest month of the year. Oh joy.

I will get over it no doubt and I have another week in BKK anyway.

Look forward to seeing you in BKK on the way through.

Good health,
krobbie

It's not so bad (absent the bi-annual flood that creeps up Taipae Road a bit). Usually, it rains for half an hour or so towards the end of the afternoon and, when it's hot, it's rather welcomed.

I trust you'll get the place ready for my 7-month stay beginning in October?

I can understand why boring Smiles loves boring Hua Hin after all he is Canadian..........

It's quite assuring to see that a very large percentage of this message board are completely ignoring The Troll (Andyinoz) above. It used to be lots of folks would bite ... now it seems the correct antidote to a Troll is being administered. (Except by me  )

I put him on ignore , and opposite of BG or BB he does not try to draw you in although you have not said anything about him. BB is a tad smarter, though not by much.

Is this "dark ale " another name for guiness or what we brits call "bitter" or a dutch style "donker bier"?

Smiles and anyone else who might be interested in some more humble opining,
andyinoz doesn't fit my definition of a troll (neither does Bottomcup for that matter).
I wondered why I didn't put him 'out to pasture' (the foe list) and decided that andyinoz
is more like the boy who declaims that the emperor is naked and not wearing fabulous
but invisible clothes.
I think the forum needs someone or someones to nip at our heels and keep ourselves
from thinking our shit doesn't stink..Putting a pin in a gasbag is another example..

Unlike some here I actually look forward to the next beach bunny missive and find them usually
well aimed and fairly accurate if a tad unkind..but, I also was a fan of boygeenyus.

Who is a troll depends on the poster and while some attain universal 'trollness' or 'trollhood',
deciding who is a troll is the moderator's option and our individual option to decide with the use of
the foe list (ignore feature).. :cat:

You should either be en route or arrived by now Smiles. Happy landings, and I hope that Mai Tai is as good in your hand as it was in your mind :alc:

Smiles, you must score high on the romantic meter. Ceejay has made the comment on the drink that often tastes better in the mind than in reality. I have the same proclivity to have fantacies about a trip before I take it, and as a result often the trip in my head far surpasses what takes place in reality. Having said that, travel is an adventure in itself. After all the plans are made and as many details are tied down as possible, the experince of travel is usually totally different. The trick is to make the differernce an enjoyable thing too. Instead of ordering the dirnk you have been dreaming about, ask the bar boy to make you the drink he makes best. I did that on St. Martin or St. Maartan one time and the young man made me a, Terminator Cocktail, it still lives in my memory palace. So the observation is to fatasize hard, but experience hard too. You tear um up tiger.
