    CHIANG MAI

Planning a short trip to Chiang Mai and am unsure where to stay, I would like to be close to the gay scene and stay somewhere that has no objection to joiners.
In Phuket I usually stay at Connect, in Pattaya I stay at Howards, a similar standard or better option in Chiang Mai would be great, please guys spare a moment to offer your advice.......many thanks.

There are several places comparable to Howards in Chiang Mai but they are close to the night Bazaar, which is almost out of the gay business. However, red cabs are everywhere and fairly inexpensive, but stay away from tut-tuts. I would suggest Seven Sun, Souvenir guest house, Come 0n place, or Soho bar the single room. For a nicer classier stay I can really recommend PJ Place or the Lotus. If you are new to Chiang Mai PJ's place would be the best place to stay as the host are gay, highly knowledable of the local Chiang Mai gay scene and you are close to malls, gay bars and near to Chang Plueak the new gay center of CM.

Thanks i am strongly considering PJs, however,I can find no information on the web as to whether they would object to a joiner.....do you have any idea of their policy?

I have nothing against PJ's Place or any other place but if I wanted to stay close to the Chang Phuak scene, I would rather choose a non-gay hotel such as Mercure (where I already staid when it was still Novotel - of course no joiners fee) or Wiang Bua Mansion (where I will perhaps stay next October, almost next door to the soon-to-be-reopened Adams Apple).

The only joiner policy PJs has is to ask you not to bring a minor home. Great place, great people, great location.

I stayed in Lotus earlier this year. All gay. No problem with joiners. Very helpful staff. Walking distance to the 3 main host bars. If you're lucky, Adam's Apple may have reopened by the time you're in Chiangmai, and it's cross the street from Lotus. Pictures I took of my room can be seen here: Blog

I've been hearing these rumors that Adam's Apple is going to re-open "soon" since it closed about 4 years ago. I hope the rumors are true but I'll believe it when I see it.

And, if it does re-open, I too hope that they set up to do the show on the first floor (either that or I'll have to cut 2" off my legs to stop banging my head going up the damn stairs).

It is open, but I am told it has only a few customers. There are two other new bars in CM. Krits "La Vie in Rose" next to his excellent restaurant and a new restaurant/bar where the Golden Bull used to be. Only the later has any real business, from what I am told. By the way, Bob, come visit me in 70 days when I retire in CM.

It's open now? Damn, that was quick!

I've sent you a pm, KT, as I'll let you escort me to AA (and/or anyplace that serves alcohol....) when I arrive in October.
