Can any of the above-mentioned applications act as a way around the entire-website-blocked-by-the-Thai-government situation here in Thailand?
i.e. Can another program be used to actually access the videos, or are they just a method of downloading the video once you've accessed the youtube.com page?
Thanks everyone! I am trying to download some video to put together a mixed entertainment video to play at a party as background entertainment.
Thank you EVERYONE! :)
you have to first play the actually youtube vid to be able to download it.Quote:

there was a thread some time ago about hmong in Laos, just do a search in dailymotion and you have a page full of vids.
I'm not clear on how dailymotion.com interfaces with youtube.com. I did a search for "hmong" and came up with pages and pages of videos, but can't tell if they are linked from youtube or not.
Then I searched for "china airlines naha" and came up blank: "Sorry! Nothing to see here!"
However doing a video search on Google for "china airlines naha" results in links to six youtube pages, none of which I can access in Thailand, of course.
Is dailymotion.com just another video site that happens to have a lot of the same videos as youtube.com, like the Hmong videos?
http://keepvid.com/ works by reading the youtube page URL you give it, extracting the FLV, and allowing you then to save it as a file to your PC. So if you already know the youtube page URL, I would expect that keepvid could get it for you, as the youtube access happens outside Thailand. But I am not currently in Thailand, so I can't test that theory.Quote:

I have used them in Thailand. They work.
Thanks, Hmmm, for that tip about keepvid.com -- it works like a charm -- even in Thailand.
I already use the free VLC Media Player as a replacement for Windows Media Player, and it plays the .flv videos from keepvid.com.
So, for all of us in Thailand, it is a way to view (and record!) youtube videos if you have the video file URL, such as http:/ /www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksMnoh43fJo. Just copy or paste it in the box at the top of the http://keepvid.com page and click on the resulting link and -- voila! -- you can save or play the .flv video on your home computer.
If you don't know the URL of the youtube video, try a Google search: type in "hmong site:youtube.com" for example, and you'll get a list of videos. If you want to exclude all the non-video links, click on the "video" link at the very top and you'll get a list of only videos.
FYI, the reason I switched to VLC Media Player as my default is that it plays most videos without having to download codecs. How many times have you been stymied with a downloaded video that Windows Media Player can't play because it can't find a codec? I've never had that problem with VLC.
keepvid.com works not just with videos from youtube. It also has a drop-down list of over 40 other video sites.
Which add on? I searched but could not find it.Quote:

What am I missing?
I go to a number of different video and news video sites, play the movie, then take the URL of the page to one of the pages noted above (javimova or dlthis, specifically) or I use the FireFox plugin and I get NOTHING but "Error" or "invalid URL" and if I ever get beyond these errors I get nothing but a .htm file downloaded. Can anyone tell me what I am missing. Your's works?
For instance:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=8Ci5tN7h8E8& ... ed&search=
in Firefox, hit button, gets me the most informative error message:
Perhaps something is being blocked here?Quote:

Make sure you got the lastest version of VLC, its a great improvement, esp the seeking bar.
